Destiny 2 Exotics Drop Rates: Raids and Dungeons

by | Jul 31, 2023

Raid and dungeon exotic weapons are typically some of Destiny 2’s most sought-after pieces of gear. That said, their drop rates are abysmally low, sometimes taking people over 100 clears of an activity to acquire.

But Bungie has taken steps to combat this issue; there is now a system for all RNG raid/dungeon exotics to improve drop rates. With this system, getting these weapons is easier than ever, but you’ll need some knowledge of how it works. In this article, we cover what weapons are locked behind these endgame activities, how to obtain them, and how to increase your chances of getting them.

How do you get RNG Raid and Dungeon Exotics?

The vast majority of raids and dungeons have exotic weapons tied to them. While some come from a quest ingrained into the activity, most are a random drop from the final encounter. Luckily, this means that you can just complete a checkpoint for the final boss of the exotic’s respective activity to have a chance of obtaining it.

Weekly Featured Raid, Destiny 2

Typically, the chance for these to drop is locked to once per character per week. However, this is slightly different regarding legacy raids and dungeons. If an activity appears as the weekly featured raid or dungeon and has an RNG exotic tied to it, that exotic will become farmable. Other than that specific case, however, you’ll be locked to three chances of each exotic per week max.

What Exotic Weapons are tied to this system?

Any exotic with a random chance of dropping at the end of a raid or dungeon is a part of this system. Currently, these include:

It’s important to note that the increased drop chance comes from redeeming each triumph, meaning you only need to complete each objective once to unlock the rate boost account-wide. You can check how many boosts you have for each exotic through a modifier on each activity’s launch screen. These boosts only apply to your initial drop chance, meaning duplicate drops will stick to the base rate (not including triumph boosts).

You’re probably wondering what a tier of rate boost actually does. Sadly, as with most specific numbers in the game, Bungie hasn’t clarified. All we know is that each tier increases the percent chance that the exotic weapon will drop.
