Destiny 2 Lost Sectors: Legend/Master Shields and Rotation

by | May 10, 2022 | Leveling

Destiny 2 is definitely more fun when played with friends. And while most activities do require or encourage group play, there is one exception: Legend and Master Lost Sectors.

On top of offering specific rewards when completed Solo, Legend and Master Lost Sectors are also fun and engaging challenges for solo Guardians.

As is tradition over here, let’s cut to the chase and dive into the nitty-gritty: Lost Sectors guides (shields and champions), Rotation, and Rewards.

Legend and Master Destiny 2 Lost Sector Rotation

As with most things in Destiny 2, Legend and Master Lost Sectors are on rotation. In this case, a daily rotation. Any given day, only one Legend and one Master Lost Sector will be available to farm.

Alert iconHow to unlock Legend & Master Lost Sectors? First, you’ll need to complete the normal version of the Lost Sector. Then, you’ll need to reach at least 1500 Power Level to even see them in the Director.

Legend and Master Lost Sector today

For the sake of clarity, the day officially starts at 9 AM PDT, Destiny 2’s official reset time.

Legend and Master Lost Sectors: Shields & Champions

Both Legend and Master Lost Sectors can be challenging activities, especially for the average player.

But no matter your skills, whether you can speedrun Master Lost Sectors like our favorite streamers or can barely complete a Legend Lost Sector, you need to make sure you bring weapons with matching elements and armor with the necessary Champions mods:

All Lost Sectors in Destiny 2

There are currently 37 Lost Sectors in Destiny 2. There used to be many more, but the removal of entire planets drastically decreased the total amount of Lost Sectors in the game.

Having said, only the Legend/Master Lost Sectors are actually worth your time:

Destiny 2 Lost Sectors: Exotic armor rewards

Before these were introduced, it was nearly impossible to farm Exotic armor in Destiny 2. With so many Exotic weapons and armor pieces available, the RNG to find the armor you wanted was too severe.

Legend and Master Lost Sectors finally changed that, as they limit the possible rewards to only one armor slot per day: Helm, arms, chest, legs, and class item.

Equally important, these Lost Sectors are the only way to acquire the latest Exotic armor released since Beyond Light (also known as Year 4 of Destiny 2). Each class has 4 Exotic armor pieces that are only available in Legend and Master Lost Sectors (if completed solo):

Destiny 2 Lost Sectors farm: Level Requirements

If you’re interested in farming Legend and/or Master Lost Sectors, you need to have a proper Power Level (including your Artifact’s bonus Power):

Difficulty Legend Master
Recommended Power Level 1320 1350
Exotic Drop Chance Rare Common

Needless to say, these aren’t easy and the least you should do is ensure you have a reasonable Power Level. By reasonable, we mean no less than 10 Power Levels below the recommended levels. If you find yourself struggling, work on increasing your Power Level as much as possible and focus on Legend Lost Sectors.

Other than that, it’s all a matter of trial and error until you have an optimized build. But if that sounds too intimidating, you should definitely start by watching the video guides linked above.

Lost Sectors Drop Rates

Bungie doesn’t provide any official figures regarding drop rates other than their very vague “rare” or “common” indications. Luckily, some very dedicated Guardians have put in the work to run and track hundreds of Legend Lost Sectors.

Reddit user LostSectorLoony ran 600+ Lost Sectors. These were his findings:

From a total of 604 Lost Sectors, he received 138 exotic drops for a total drop rate of 22.85%.

Another important finding to keep in mind is that “run time does not seem to affect drop rates“. In other words, run faster Lost Sectors when possible

Which lost sector is best for farming?

It’s common knowledge that Lost Sectors were not created equal. Some are much easier and/or faster to complete than others. And as said by  LostSectorLoony:

I saw no significant difference in drop rate between sectors, but there is a marked difference in how fast they can be completed.

To give you a sense of what Lost Sectors are easier to farm, these are his personal fastest runs and average times for each sector:

Sector Best time Average time
Veles Labyrinth 1:46 3:23
Exodus Garden 2A 2:16 4:30
Perdition 2:52 4:33
Concealed Void 4:42 6:44
Bunker E-15 4:53 7:14
K1 Crew Quarters 06:00 8:10
K1 Communion 10:42 12:50
K1 Logistics 11:43 14:11

Hopefully, you now have everything you need to know how to best farm Lost Sectors to find exactly the type of Exotic armor you need.

Latest changes made to this guide

With the release of The Witch Queen expansion, a major change was introduced to the way Lost Sectors rotate:

When we introduced Legend and Master Lost Sectors in Beyond Light, we were forced to split the daily Legend and Master Lost Sector locations, since there was no way to select difficulty within the public bubble. Thanks to some fresh technology built for the upcoming The Witch Queen campaign, this limitation is now removed! There is now a single daily Lost Sector, which has both Legend and Master difficulties available at the same time, selectable at the entrance. Both difficulties give the same Exotic reward.

On top of that change, several fixes were also introduced:

  • Previously the Legend difficulty version of the Concealed Void Lost Sector on Europa had enemies with all three shield types. The Arc-shielded Captain has been replaced with an elite Vandal on Legend. On Master it was already replaced with an Overload Champion.
  • When launching Legend and Master Lost Sectors, you now see the normal Director launch screen when you interact with the totem, and you can switch difficulties from that screen.
  • Master and Legend difficulty now display the information about which shields are present when you pull out your Ghost, with the rest of the activity modifiers.
  • Most Lost Sectors now have more intense music when playing on Legend or Master difficulty.
  • Veles Labyrinth encounters have been improved to bring this Lost Sector more in line with others.

You can find all the changes on Bungie’s official Patch notes.
