Destiny 2 The Mountaintop: God Rolls and How to get it

by | Apr 16, 2024

With all the new information surrounding Into the Light and The Final Shape, Guardians are as hyped as ever to gain some of the best loot the game has ever seen. This is true for the recent release of the BRAVE arsenal, where twelve fan-favorite weapons have returned to aid in our fight against The Witness. Today, we’ll dive into one of the most unique and highly anticipated of the bunch: The Mountaintop.

Chapters

How good is The Mountaintop

Despite nerfs to it before it was sunset with Beyond Light, The Mountaintop continues to dominate the current meta.

While the micro missile frame was heavily nerfed in The Crucible, it retained its potency in PvE, allowing it to excel past most competition right out of the gate. This, in addition to its absolutely stacked perk pool (Lead from Gold, Auto-Loading Holster, Recombination, Frenzy, Vorpal Weapon, etc.), makes for a weapon that’s almost guaranteed to be the star of the show in PvE.

In comparison, The Mountaintop isn’t as exciting in PvP. While it does retain some of its power (mostly in the form of ease of use), there are still other options that seem to out-compete it.

Tier Rank & “Roles”: We expect The Mountaintop to fall into the S-Tier for PvE (General Use) and the A-Tier for PvP.

Best alternatives:

The Mountaintop Perks and God Rolls

The Mountaintop special grenade launcher can roll with the following perks:

  • Perk 1: Ambitious Assassin, Impulse Amplifier, Demolitionist, Lead from Gold, Slickdraw, Auto-Loading Holster, Overflow
  • Perk 2: Rampage, Vorpal Weapon, Adrenaline Junkie, One for All, Harmony, Recombination, Frenzy
  • Origin Trait: Indomitability

The Mountaintop PvE god roll

PvE Rolls Roll #1: All-Around Roll #2: DPS
Launcher Barrel Quick Launch
Magazine Spike Grenades
Perk 1 Auto-Loading Holster (also good: Demolitionist) Auto-Loading Holster
Perk 2 Frenzy or Recombination Recombination
Masterwork Velocity

Roll #1: General Use

The Mountaintop can fit any role you need it to in PvE, making it a must-have for any Guardians planning on battling The Witness in The Final Shape.

We’ll start with Quick Launch and a velocity masterwork for higher velocity, as well as Spike Grenades for a bump in damage. From there, Auto-Loading Holster is the best general pick for perk one, although Demolitionist and Lead from Gold are both honorable mentions. As for the final column, it’s a toss-up between Frenzy and RecombinationFrenzy is a more consistent (but less potent) buff, while Recombination can allow for one extremely powerful shot.

Recommended Loadout: The Mountaintop, Sunshot, Apex Predator.

Roll #2: DPS

If you’re instead using The Mountaintop in a DPS rotation, simply go for Auto-Loading Holster and Recombination for your perks. While Vorpal Weapon seems interesting in the final column, most DPS phases cater more toward Recombination.

Recommended Loadout: The Mountaintop, Merciless, Apex Predator.

The Mountaintop PvP god roll

PvE Roll: All-Around
Launcher Barrel Volatile Launch
Magazine High-Velocity Rounds
Perk 1 Impulse Amplifier
Perk 2 Harmony (also good: Vorpal Weapon)
Masterwork Velocity

The Mountaintop’s power doesn’t stop with its PvP rolls—it’s also extremely powerful in The Crucible.

Volatile Launch and a velocity masterwork will grant the weapon reduced projectile speed; as for the magazine, you’re looking at either High-Velocity Rounds or Sticky Grenades, the latter only being better if you plan on strategically setting “traps” around the battlefield.

For main perks, column one offers Impulse Amplifier, making the weapon’s velocity skyrocket even more. And while nothing stands out in the final column, Harmony makes for an alright choice if you play around it.

How to get The Mountaintop

The Mountaintop is one of twelve returning legendary weapons with the free-to-play Into the Light update. While it wasn’t in the first batch of weapons released with the initial content drop, The Mountaintop will enter the loot pool on April 16 and will stick around after The Final Shape’s launch.

To obtain The Mountaintop, you’ll simply need to complete the new horde mode, Onslaught. You can also grab a quest from Arcite in the Hall of Champions to unlock attunement for the weapon, which, when active, will increase its drop rate by 50%. We cover the entire Brave Weapons Rotation here.

I think MT will end up being an S-tier weapon again in PvE. Micro Missile is an extremely strong and unique perk and is being made intrinsic, meaning that we will still have good dmg dealing perks in addition to this on the weapon. MT can do stuff that no other GLs can do because of this and will still have that Sniper/GL factor that makes it valuable in lots of PvE situations.
