Into the Light was a great success. It released a terrific new activity, Onslaught, and marked the return of some of the best weapons the game has ever seen. Today, we focus on one of the most iconic weapons of the bunch: Midnight Coup.

How good is Midnight Coup
Midnight Coup is returning as a 140 RPM Kinetic Weapon, putting it in direct competition with powerful weapons like Fatebringer, Zaouli’s Bane, and even Sunshot, which fill the Hand Cannon role similarly to Midnight Coup.
In PvP, Midnight Coup will be a solid pick. It comes with some general consistency perks like Moving Target or Zen Moment, making it a decent option for dueling. Being an Adaptive Frame Hand Cannon helps, too, as this frame is quite powerful in PvP right now, potentially making Midnight Coup quite the sleeper pick in PvP.
In PvE, Midnight Coup has a plethora of perks available. It does have the classic Outlaw and Rampage combo, however, we don’t see this being as good as it once was. Shoot to Loot, Firefly and Kinetic Tremors are all solid options and may tempt players to try to get their hands on it, as Midnight Coup will be the second Hand Cannon to come with Kinetic Tremors, only after Spare Rations (which isn’t very good).
Tier Rank & “Roles”: We consider this revamped Midnight Coup S-tier for PvE (All-Around) and B-tier for PvP.

Magazine | Appended Mag |
Perk 1 | Firefly or Explosive Payload |
Perk 2 | Frenzy or One for All |
Masterwork | Handling |
As always, Fluted Barrel is the go-to for our barrel option as it provides a good amount of Handling, making the weapon feel much nicer. On top of this, we can opt for Appended Mag as we already have Reload Speed from either Firefly or Frenzy, no matter which alternate perk you go for.
Firefly provides some much-needed AoE damage as Hand Cannons typically struggle with add-clear, but Explosive is a decent utility-based alternative. Frenzy is generally the best all-round option as it also works with Explosive Payload, but One for All has great synergy with Firefly, making it a valid alternative when paired with an AoE perk.
Recommended Loadout: Midnight Coup, Forbearance, or any Fusion Rifle, Gjallarhorn.

Magazine | Accurised Rounds |
Perk 1 | Explosive Payload or Moving Target |
Perk 2 | Zen Moment or Opening Shot |
Masterwork | Range |
Range and Stability is the name of the game on PvP Hand Cannons, meaning Smallbore and Accurised Rounds are the best picks for our barrel and magazine slots.
Explosive Payload is generally the best available option on Hand Cannons as they artificially extend range while also flinching the opponent more, however, some may not like the feel of Explosive Payload, making Moving Target a great alternative.
Zen Moment and Opening Shot are both brilliant options in the second column. Zen Moment provides a lot of consistency and makes the gun easier to use, but some may prefer the advantages of Opening Shot instead.
How to get Midnight Coup
You can obtain Midnight Coup by participating in Onslaught activities. Brave weapons are guaranteed to drop when completing 10 waves but can also randomly drop throughout the activity. Clearing 50 waves in a single run will reward you with extra drops.
With Update 8.0.5, you can now visit Zavala in the Tower to access the new Onslaught Attunement menu.
There, you can attune to a single BRAVE Arsenal weapon, increasing its drop chance by 60% in Onslaught. Onslaught Attunement has no cooldown or cost, so you can swap your chosen weapon at any time. We cover all Brave Weapons here.
