Arguably the most anticipated part of any Destiny 2 content drop is the new loot that comes with it, and Into the Light was no exception. While the rest of the update’s content has proven exciting in its own right, there’s nothing better than using fan-favorite weapons spanning the franchise’s history.
Today, we’ll be talking about a weapon that still exists in its original form, but now has a new BRAVE variant as well: the Succession sniper rifle.

How good is Succession
Succession’s original variant is a popular sniper rifle that holds up even to this day, and its new BRAVE version follows that same trend.
In PvE, Succession has a host of perks that allow it to excel in activities of all difficulty levels. While sniper rifles continue to be generally lackluster compared to other options, this one continues to make a name for itself through its high damage per shot and potent perk combinations.
Succession falls into a similar category in The Crucible, where it has everything it needs to excel against your fellow Guardians. From its nice feel to its outstanding selection of perks, both versions of Succession are great choices for players who prefer aggressive frame snipers.
Tier Rank & “Roles”: Just like its original variant, the new version of Succession is S-Tier in both PvE (Champion & Boss Damage) and PvP.

Succession Perks and God Rolls
The Succession sniper rifle (BRAVE variant) can roll with the following perks:
- Perk 1: Moving Target, No Distractions, Lead from Gold, Reconstruction, Firmly Planted, Demolitionist, Discord
- Perk 2: Snapshot Sights, Redirection, Recombination, Vorpal Weapon, Focused Fury, Firing Line, Box Breathing, Desperate Measures
- Origin Trait: Indomitability
Succession PvE god roll
PvE Roll: Champion & Boss Damage | |
---|---|
Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
Magazine | Extended Mag |
Perk 1 | Reconstruction (also good: Lead from Gold) |
Perk 2 | Recombination (also good: Firing Line) |
Masterwork | Handling |
For PvE, we’ll start Succession off by opting for Fluted Barrel, Extended Mag, and Handling. While Extended Mag is typically an unpopular choice, you’ll never be affected by the slow reload speed with the perk combination we’re going for, so the extra bullet in the magazine is worth it.
Speaking of our perk choices, we’re going for the classic combo of Reconstruction and Recombination. While Firing Line is a close contender in the second column (if you’re in a fireteam), Recombination’s buffed shot is simply too potent in such a wide range of scenarios.
Recommended Loadout: Succession, Sunshot, Apex Predator.
Succession PvP god roll
PvP Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
Magazine | Accurized Rounds |
Perk 1 | Moving Target |
Perk 2 | Snapshot Sights |
Masterwork | Handling |
In The Crucible, Succession’s god roll is relatively simple. Start by opting for high handling, range, and stability through Fluted Barrel, Accurized Rounds, and a handling masterwork.
Jumping over to perk two, Snapshot Sights is the clear winner, a perk that is basically necessary on any sniper you plan on using in PvP. As for perk one, our choice is Moving Target. However, if you have a habit of standing still while finding the perfect shot, something like Firmly Planted or No Distractions may be for you.
How to get Succession
As mentioned previously, Succession’s original version is still available to players who own the Beyond Light DLC through the Deep Stone Crypt raid. However, today, we’ll be talking about Into the Light’s new BRAVE variant, which offers different perks and is easier to obtain.
In short, this new variant comes from Onslaught, the free-to-play activity that was released with Into the Light. If you’re looking to focus-farm the sniper, Arcite offers a quest in the Hall of Champions that will unlock Succession’s attunement. This can be activated in the Hall, increasing the sniper’s drop chance by 50%. We cover the entire Brave Weapons Rotation here.
