Destiny 2 Buried Bloodline + Catalyst: How to get them

by | Aug 1, 2024

Buried Bloodline is an Exotic Sidearm that drops from Warlord’s Ruin, D2’s newest dungeon. This Sidearm came with a never-seen-before archetype and is already part of the Meta.

For these reasons, Guardians continue to grind Warlord’s Ruin every week. In this guide, we cover how powerful this Exotic sidearm is and tell you exactly how to get both the weapon and its catalyst.

How to get the Buried Bloodline Catalyst

The Buried Bloodline catalyst can be acquired by solving three puzzles within the Warlord’s Ruin dungeon and completing the “In the Shadows of the Mountain” quest. This excellent video guide from Skarrow9 covers in detail how to acquire it.

The Catalyst grants the following Exotic Trait:

  • Splitvein Lineage: While Devour is active, this weapon weakens on hit.

Once acquired, you’ll need around 500 weapon kills to unlock it. Typical farming methods such as Shuro Chi or the opening section of Grasp of Avarice will speed things along.

How to get the Buried Bloodline Exotic

The Buried Bloodline Exotic can only drop from the Warlord’s Ruin final boss, Hefnd’s Vengeance, Blighted Chimera. Although we prefer more deterministic Exotic quests that are not connected to RNG, you can complete specific triumphs that increase your chances of earning this Dungeon Exotic. You can find the entire Warlord’s Ruin loot table here.

Buried Bloodline drop rate

Buried Bloodline is estimated to have a base drop rate of around 5%, based on community-driven data. Note that actual drop rates are unknown, as Bungie has never shared that information.

Albeit drop rates for Raid and Dungeon exotics are abysmally low, completing Triumphs will increase dungeon exotic drop rates. In this case:

Triumph Description Rate Boost
Heed The Whispers, O Vengeance Mine  Find 10 Ahamkara Bones strewn throughout the Warlock’s Ruin dungeon and hear their accompanying story. +1
She Stood Alone, O Vengeance Mine Complete the Warlord’s Ruin dungeon solo without leaving the activity. +1
Withstand The Siege, O Vengeance Mine  Complete each encounter of the Warlord’s Ruin dungeon on Master difficulty. +1

Can you farm Buried Bloodline?

Unfortunately, you cannot farm the Buried Bloodline sidearm. Dungeon exotics cannot be farmed unless their respective dungeon becomes the weekly featured dungeon. Alas, Warlord’s Ruin will not be part of the rotation until next season (episode?), which means you only get a chance to obtain the Exotic sidearm once per character per week.

How good is the Buried Bloodline Dungeon Exotic?

Buried Bloodline’s exotic traits are the following:

  • Hungering Quarrel: Fires two tracking bolts that leech health from the target
  • Violent Reanimation: Rapid final blows with this weapon grant Devour to the wielder

Buried Bloodline is a very unique and fun exotic to use. It allows you to obtain Devour on non-void subclasses, which is immensely strong and works brilliantly with builds that are all about spamming Grenades as much as possible.

Buried Bloodline excels in PvE. We consider it A-Tier for PvE (and C-tier for PvP).
