Destiny 2 Touch of Malice Catalyst: How to easily get it

by | Sep 1, 2022

The King’s Fall raid is the latest endgame activity to come to Destiny 2, and on top of offering a great raiding experience and excellent legendary loot, it also (re)introduced both the Touch of Malice exotic scout and its Catalyst. Needless to say, the entire community is desperately trying to clear this raid in order to get their hands on both of these.

This quick guide will tell you everything there is to know about it: How to get it? How to unlock it? Is it even worth it? And that last part is important because Exotic catalysts can be extremely hard to find and/or unlock, but the benefits are not always up to par.

How to get Touch of Malice’s catalyst

Just like the weapon itself, the catalyst for Touch of Malice can only be acquired within the King’s Fall raid.

As figured by Eclipe, finding the catalyst is easier than you’d think. All you need to do is have your entire Fireteam deposit the orbs in Oryx’s Basketball Court.

This does put every single fireteam member to contribute. Everyone is needed:

The Touch of Malice Catalyst “quest” starts at the beginning of the raid.

1. Split the team to cover roughly the four quarters of the entire area
2. A Fireteam member with a Touch of Malice equipped will need to head over to a plate.
3. Relics will then spawn in the arena
4. Pick all relics simultaneously and head towards the middle of the Dreadnaught where the statues lie.
5. Dunk the relics before the timer runs out

This video gives a perfect summary of exactly how to proceed:

How to unlock the catalyst?

Once you have found the catalyst, you will need 500 kills to unlock it.

  •  700 kills required

Touch of Malice Catalyst Perks

The catalyst adds the following perk:

  • Rapid Hit: Rapid precision hits temporarily increase stability and reload speed.

It’s too early to say, as few players actually have seen this catalyst in action, but early impressions are surprisingly good. Rapid Hit is not exactly what you’d expect from an Exotic catalyst, but on this specific weapon, the synergies are promising…

How to get the Touch of Malice Exotic?

Touch of Malice is part of the King’s Fall loot table and can only be acquired by defeating the final boss, Oryx. Unlike in Destiny 1, Touch of Malice is not connected to a lengthy quest and drops randomly when defeating Oryx.

Is the Catalyst worth it?

Unlike many catalysts that are purely RNG-based and could take hours to farm, Touch of Malice’s catalyst is straightforward. It isn’t “easy” to acquire, as King’s Fall is still a long 6-man endgame activity, but if you put in the effort, you should eventually be able to acquire it. Given how good the King’s Fall weapons appear to be, this catalyst seems to be worthy of your time and effort.

Having said that, we’ll need more time before we can conclude how strong this catalyst actually is… Are you lucky enough to already have it? How are you liking it so far?
