Albeit not as challenging as raids, Dungeons are also considered endgame content in Destiny 2. Therefore, they also reward players with top-tier loot. In fact, some of the top weapons in Destiny 2 come from dungeons.
This guide covers every Dungeon weapon currently available, including Exotic and Legendaries with their PvP and PvE god rolls.
Updated as of Season of the Deep (S21).

Best Dungeon weapons: Tier list
Excluding the weapons from the upcoming Ghost of the Deep dungeon, there are currently 24 dungeons weapons in Destiny 2. And unlike classic MMOs, some dungeon weapons are just as good as the best raid weapons in the game:
Name | Weapons | Type | Archetype | Ammo | Element | Requirements | In loot pool? | Rank | Source | Available? | Tier rank | Source ❘ DLC | Final Verdict | Released | Perks | Best of? |

Firing this weapon also grants Wolfpack Rounds to nearby allies wielding non-Exotic Rocket Launchers." ► While significant damage nerfs in PvE have caused Gjallarhorn to fall into a purely-support pick for most, it continues to dominate the meta in most areas of the game. If your fireteam runs rocket launchers for a raid or dungeon boss encounter, you're nearly guaranteed to see one player running this exotic. | 30th Anniversary event | Slot: ![]() ![]() Exotic Perk: "Rounds fired split into tracking cluster missiles upon detonation. Its ability to continuously grant you and your allies Woven Mail is invaluable and rivals the support capabilities of Lumina and Divinity. Regardless of whether or not you're running a Strand build, The Navigator is an absurd support weapon that's extremely powerful in high-end PvE content. | Season 21 | Slot: ![]() ![]() Exotic Perk: "Firing this weapon at an ally grants Woven Mail to both the user and the target. With Close to Melee or Incandescent for PvE and Impulse Amplifier and Unstoppable Force for PvP, this weapon's only downside is that glaives are intrinsically weak. | Season 21 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Rolls: Replenishing Aegis (also good: Impulse Amplifier) + Close to Melee (also good: Incandescent) PvP God Rolls: Impulse Amplifier (also good: Killing Wind) + Unstoppable Force (also good: Collective Action) | Top-tier |

Its inability to be crafted does make it annoying to farm, but this rocket sees little competition in the current sandbox, making it a must-have. | Season 21 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Envious Assassin (also good: Tracking Module) + Bait and Switch (also good: Explosive Light) | Top-tier |
Retold Tale | ![]() Retold Tale | Shotgun | Precision | Special | Void | Free-to-Play | Yes | S › Best | Shattered Throne Dungeon | ![]() | Best ❘ S Excels in: PvP | Shattered Throne Dungeon![]() Free-to-Play | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvP God Roll: Quickdraw (also good: Surplus) + Killing Wind ► Once reigning alongside Dust Rock Blues during the Forsaken era, Retold Tale benefitted a lot from the nerfs to Aggressive Shotguns, and thus has risen up the ranks to become one of the most consistent and powerful shotguns in the game with its solid perk pool. | Season 13 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvP God Roll: Quickdraw (also good: Surplus) + Killing Wind | Top-tier |

Being part of the Precision Frame family gives it a boost, but its excellent perks bring it the extra mile, with Opening Shot and Perpetual Motion both being high-value perks. | 30th Anniversary event | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvP God Roll: Perpetual Motion + Opening Shot (also good: Killing Wind) | Top-tier |
Liminal Vigil | ![]() Liminal Vigil | Sidearm | Aggressive Burst | Primary | Stasis | Deluxe Edition | Yes | S › Best | Spire of the Watcher Dungeon | ![]() | Best ❘ S Excels in: PvP | Spire of the Watcher Dungeon![]() Deluxe Edition | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvP God Rolls: Tap the Trigger + Desperado (also good: Surrounded) ► The only non-Pulse rifle to get Desperado, Liminal Vigil is a powerhouse of a sidearm. Tap the Trigger will always be active, giving you a significant advantage over others, while Desperado will let you lower the already insane TTK even more. Pair it with a sniper to really wreck the house. | Season 19 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvP God Rolls: Tap the Trigger + Desperado (also good: Surrounded) | Top-tier |
Lingering Dread | ![]() Lingering Dread | Grenade Launcher | Lightweight | Special | Stasis | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Duality Dungeon | ![]() | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE + PvP | Duality Dungeon![]() Deluxe Edition | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE/PvP God Roll: Auto-Loading Holster (also good: Ambitious Assassin) + Chill Clip ► Lingering Dread is the first of its kind. It's the first Special Stasis Grenade Launcher, and it comes with one of the newer Stasis perks, Chill Clip. However, despite the potential nuance that Chill Clip may bring, Lingering Dread doesn't shake up the meta. It is merely another 'pretty good' option. | Season 17 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE/PvP God Roll: Auto-Loading Holster (also good: Ambitious Assassin) + Chill Clip | Top-tier |
New Purpose | ![]() New Purpose | Pulse Rifle | High-Impact | Primary | Stasis | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Duality Dungeon | ![]() | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE + PvP | Duality Dungeon![]() Deluxe Edition | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Feeding Frenzy + Headstone (also good: Desperado) PvP God Roll: Perpetual Motion (also good: Tunnel Vision) + Desperado ► For those not wanting to grind out The Messenger, New Purpose is the next best thing. Desperado was recently nerfed and is now significantly less potent, but it's still crazy fun in both PvE and PvP. Plus, New Purpose's Stasis element and Headstone can also play an integral part in a PvE Stasis build. | Season 17 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Feeding Frenzy + Headstone (also good: Desperado) PvP God Roll: Perpetual Motion (also good: Tunnel Vision) + Desperado | Top-tier |
Vouchsafe | ![]() Vouchsafe | Scout Rifle | Lightweight | Primary | Void | Free-to-Play | Yes | A › Strong | Shattered Throne Dungeon | ![]() | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Shattered Throne Dungeon![]() Free-to-Play | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Rapid Hit + Explosive Payload ► Vouchsafe is an excellent Scout Rifle; as far as Legendaries go, few are better than it. However, it lacks the lethality that some other options have to be considered the best, but it is a workhorse of a weapon that is usable in all kinds of content. | Season 13 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Rapid Hit + Explosive Payload | Top-tier |
Fixed Odds | ![]() Fixed Odds | Machine Gun | High-Impact | Heavy | Solar | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Duality Dungeon | ![]() | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Duality Dungeon![]() Deluxe Edition | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Feeding Frenzy + Incandescent (also good: Rampage) ► A fan favorite, Fixed Odds is one of the best options among slow-firing Machine guns. Offering a fine selection of perks, Fixed Odds is a great pick and performs nicely in more difficult content featuring beefier enemies. | Season 17 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Feeding Frenzy + Incandescent (also good: Rampage) | Top-tier |
Stormchaser | ![]() Stormchaser | Linear Fusion Rifle | Aggressive | Heavy | Arc | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Duality Dungeon | ![]() | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Duality Dungeon![]() Deluxe Edition | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Rapid Hit (also good: Clown Cartridge) + Firing Line (also good: Vorpal Weapon) ► Being the first aggressive frame linear fusion rifle, Stormchaser was remarkably strong for its time. However, now that other options like Cataclysmic and Briar's Contempt have gained popularity, Stormchaser has taken a back seat. It's still an outstanding option if you're not a raider, but going for something better is definitely worth it. | Season 17 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Rapid Hit (also good: Clown Cartridge) + Firing Line (also good: Vorpal Weapon) | Top-tier |
Unforgiven | ![]() Unforgiven | Submachine Gun | Aggressive | Primary | Void | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Duality Dungeon | ![]() | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Duality Dungeon![]() Deluxe Edition | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Demolitionist (also good: Feeding Frenzy) + Adrenaline Junkie (also good: Rampage) ► Unforgiven is commonly forgotten due to its abysmal reload speed stat but is actually highly underrated. With Demolitionist in the first column and extremely synergistic perks in the second, Unforgiven is a clear choice for any Void 3.0 build. | Season 17 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Demolitionist (also good: Feeding Frenzy) + Adrenaline Junkie (also good: Rampage) | Top-tier |

It's still an absurdly strong pick for a world drop, but if you have access to raids and dungeons, you'll find significantly stronger linear fusion rifles there. | Season 18 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Triple Tap + Firing Line | Top-tier |
Hierarchy of Needs | ![]() Hierarchy of Needs | Combat Bow | Exotic | Primary | Solar | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Spire of the Watcher Dungeon | ![]() | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Spire of the Watcher Dungeon![]() Deluxe Edition | Slot: ![]() ![]() Exotic Perk: "Precision hits and final blows build Guidance Ring energy. Arrows fired through a Guidance Ring release seeking projectiles, which do more damage based on distance traveled." ► Hierarchy of Needs is very unique, and it also happens to be excellent at boss damage. It actually beats Outbreak Perfected and Touch of Malice for the top spot in Primary DPS, making it a staple backup weapon. It does a shedload of damage and still has all the benefits of being a bow. | Season 19 | Slot: ![]() ![]() Exotic Perk: "Precision hits and final blows build Guidance Ring energy. They both have their own strengths and weaknesses, however, the main draw to No Survivors is its ability to roll with Demolitionist in the first column (which functions amazingly with Incandescent and a Solar build). | Season 21 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Demolitionist + Incandescent (also good: Adrenaline Junkie ) | Top-tier |
New Pacific Epitaph | ![]() New Pacific Epitaph | Grenade Launcher | Wave | Special | Stasis | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Ghost of the Deep Dungeon | ![]() | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Ghost of the Deep Dungeon![]() Deluxe Edition | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Demolitionist (also good: Lead from Gold) + Redirection (also good: Adrenaline Junkie) ► New Pacific Epitaph is our first handheld Stasis Waveframe. What it lacks in traditional rolls, it makes up for in uniqueness, as it is the only wave frame available to get Demolitionist. Paired with Redirection, and you'll find a GL that could slowly become a top pick. | Season 21 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvE God Roll: Demolitionist (also good: Lead from Gold) + Redirection (also good: Adrenaline Junkie) | Top-tier |
1000 Yard Stare | ![]() 1000 Yard Stare | Sniper Rifle | Adaptive | Special | Void | 30th Anniversary | Yes | A › Strong | Grasp of Avarice Dungeon | ![]() | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvP | Grasp of Avarice Dungeon![]() 30th Anniversary | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvP God Roll: Quickdraw (also good: No Distractions) + Snapshot Sights ► 1000 Yard Stare has been out for a while but has yet to decline in popularity; its excellent stats and S-Tier perks have kept it in the meta even through newer releases. If you're looking for a solid Legendary sniper rifle that combines ease of use and lethality, 1000 Yard Stare is for you. | 30th Anniversary event | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvP God Roll: Quickdraw (also good: No Distractions) + Snapshot Sights | Top-tier |

If that isn't enough, consider that Well-Rounded x2 adds 20 range and stability, and you can see why this gun is so powerful. | Season 17 | Slot: ![]() ![]() PvP God Roll: Quickdraw (also good: Well-Rounded) + Moving Target (also good: Backup Plan) | Top-tier |
These are the different Tier levels used for this tier list ranking:
- S Tier – Best: Highest ranking weapon types.
- A Tier – Strong: Very strong weapon types, but not on the same level as S Tier Choices.
- B Tier – Average: Decent choices that can be lethal in the hands of a skilled player.
- C Tier – Weak: The middle of the pack, somewhat mediocre.
- D Tier – Worst: Lagging behind the competition, these don’t have much to offer.
The list starts with the S Tier and moves down from there.
Destiny 2 Dungeon weapon farming: How to get them
Farming dungeons for unlimited loot is easier than you think. All you need is a committed Fireteam and a couple of hours ahead of you.
Farming newer dungeons
This is how you can go about farming both Prophecy and Grasp of Avarice dungeons:
- Go through the dungeon on your first character until you reach the encounter you want to farm.
- Start the encounter and wipe (i.e. die without beating it).
- Ask your Fireteam to wait. Change characters and log into a character that hasn’t run the dungeon that week.
- On that second character, join again your Fireteam.
- Wipe again. Now your second character has the proper checkpoint.

Prophecy’s first encounter
And that’s it. You can now farm that encounter ad nauseam until reset! To continue farming, you need to:
- Launch the dungeon using your second character (the one that is holding the checkpoint).
- Change characters and rejoin your Fireteam on your first character.
- Complete the encounter for loot.
- Exit the dungeon, switch characters again, and repeat Step 1.
This is how you can technically farm a dungeon.
These Dungeon loot tables cover exactly what items can drop from every encounter.
Farming older dungeons?
Up until recently, farming older dungeons (Shattered Throne or Pit of Heresy) was impossible. Just like older raids, these could only be completed once per character per week.
But Season of the Haunted (S17) introduced a Raid and Dungeon rotation. Every week, a different raid and dungeon are part of the weekly rotation, which means they become fully farmable, on top of also offering a Pinnacle reward each. This page covers the weekly Raid and dungeon rotation in depth.
Ranking criteria
For the record, as much as we tried to keep this list as objective as possible, it’s still based on our personal experience playing the PC version of the game.
Finally, if you’re wondering what criteria was used to build this Tier list, these are the main factors I took into account:
- Lethality: The higher the effective DPS and usability, the higher the ranking.
- Consistency: Some weapons may not have the highest DPS numbers, but they are so consistent, they more than make up for their lower DPS numbers.
- Ease of use: Similar to the point above, some weapons are very effective because they are easy to use and don’t require too much skill or setup. This is also rewarded with higher rankings.
- PVE/PVP Performance: High lethality in either PVE or PVP is equally valuable. However, a weapon that is good at both PVE and PVP should rank higher than one that is slightly better on only PVE or PVP.
- Fun factor: Not the most important factor, but it also helps if the weapon is damn fun to shoot with!
If you strongly disagree with some of the rankings here, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section. By the way, what is your personal favorite?
