Albeit not as challenging as raids, Dungeons are also considered endgame content in Destiny 2. Therefore, they also reward players with top-tier loot. In fact, some of the top weapons in Destiny 2 come from dungeons.
This guide covers every Dungeon weapon currently available, including Exotic and Legendaries with their PvP and PvE god rolls.
Updated as of Season of the Deep (S21).

Best Dungeon weapons: Tier list
Excluding the weapons from the upcoming Ghost of the Deep dungeon, there are currently 24 dungeons weapons in Destiny 2. And unlike classic MMOs, some dungeon weapons are just as good as the best raid weapons in the game:

Eyasluna offers god-tier stats and an extremely good perk selection that will help it dominate the Crucible. | 30th Anniversary event | Slot: Stasis | Ammo: Primary | Archetype: Adaptive PvE God Roll: Outlaw + Headstone PvP God Roll: Rangefinder + Kill Clip | Top-tier
Gjallarhorn | Gjallarhorn | Rocket Launcher | Exotic | Heavy | Solar | 30th Anniversary | Yes | S › Best | Grasp of Avarice Dungeon | Best ❘ S Excels in: PvE + PvP | Grasp of Avarice Dungeon 30th Anniversary | Slot: Solar | Ammo: Heavy | Archetype: Exotic Exotic Perk: "Rounds fired split into tracking cluster missiles upon detonation. Gain increased handling and reload speed when standing near allies. Firing this weapon also grants Wolfpack Rounds to nearby allies wielding non-Exotic Rocket Launchers." ► Gjallarhorn might be the main reason we are in a Rocket Launcher meta right now. Due to its ability to buff your allies' rockets with Wolfpack Rounds, Gjallarhorn is a must for at least one player to have in each raid team. | 30th Anniversary event | Slot: Solar | Ammo: Heavy | Archetype: Exotic Exotic Perk: "Rounds fired split into tracking cluster missiles upon detonation. With Close to Melee or Incandescent for PvE and Impulse Amplifier and Unstoppable Force for PvP, this weapon's only downside is that glaives are intrinsically weak. | Season 21 | Slot: Solar | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Rapid-Fire PvE God Rolls: Replenishing Aegis (also good: Impulse Amplifier) + Close to Melee (also good: Incandescent) PvP God Rolls: Impulse Amplifier (also good: Killing Wind) + Unstoppable Force (also good: Collective Action) | Top-tier

Its inability to be crafted does make it annoying to farm, but this rocket sees little competition in the current sandbox, making it a must-have. | Season 21 | Slot: Stasis | Ammo: Heavy | Archetype: Aggressive PvE God Roll: Envious Assassin (also good: Tracking Module) + Bait and Switch (also good: Explosive Light) | Top-tier
Retold Tale | Retold Tale | Shotgun | Precision | Special | Void | Free-to-Play | Yes | S › Best | Shattered Throne Dungeon | Best ❘ S Excels in: PvP | Shattered Throne Dungeon Free-to-Play | Slot: Void | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Precision PvP God Roll: Quickdraw (also good: Surplus) + Snapshot Sights ► As a Precision Frame Shotgun, Retold Tale is a powerful option in the Crucible. On top of this, it comes with some excellent perks, and the combination of Quickdraw + Snapshot Sights makes it one of the snappiest Shotguns in the entire game. | Season 13 | Slot: Void | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Precision PvP God Roll: Quickdraw (also good: Surplus) + Snapshot Sights | Top-tier
Matador 64 | Matador 64 | Shotgun | Precision | Special | Arc | 30th Anniversary | Yes | S › Best | Grasp of Avarice Dungeon | Best ❘ S Excels in: PvP | Grasp of Avarice Dungeon 30th Anniversary | Slot: Arc | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Precision PvP God Roll: Perpetual Motion + Opening Shot (also good: Killing Wind) ► Matador 64 is one of the best Shotguns in the game. Being part of the Precision Frame family gives it a boost, but its excellent perks bring it the extra mile, with Opening Shot and Perpetual Motion both being high-value perks. | 30th Anniversary event | Slot: Arc | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Precision PvP God Roll: Perpetual Motion + Opening Shot (also good: Killing Wind) | Top-tier
Liminal Vigil | Liminal Vigil | Sidearm | Aggressive Burst | Primary | Stasis | Deluxe Edition | Yes | S › Best | Spire of the Watcher Dungeon | Best ❘ S Excels in: PvP | Spire of the Watcher Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Stasis | Ammo: Primary | Archetype: Aggressive Burst PvP God Rolls: Tap the Trigger + Desperado (also good: Surrounded) ► The only non-Pulse rifle to get Desperado, Liminal Vigil is a powerhouse of a sidearm. Tap the Trigger will always be active, giving you a significant advantage over others, while Desperado will let you lower the already insane TTK even more. Pair it with a sniper to really wreck the house. | Season 19 | Slot: Stasis | Ammo: Primary | Archetype: Aggressive Burst PvP God Rolls: Tap the Trigger + Desperado (also good: Surrounded) | Top-tier
Lingering Dread | Lingering Dread | Grenade Launcher | Lightweight | Special | Stasis | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Duality Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE + PvP | Duality Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Stasis | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Lightweight PvE/PvP God Roll: Auto-Loading Holster (also good: Ambitious Assassin) + Chill Clip ► Lingering Dread is the first of its kind. It's the first Special Stasis Grenade Launcher, and it comes with one of the newer Stasis perks, Chill Clip. However, despite the potential nuance that Chill Clip may bring, Lingering Dread doesn't shake up the meta. It is merely another 'pretty good' option. | Season 17 | Slot: Stasis | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Lightweight PvE/PvP God Roll: Auto-Loading Holster (also good: Ambitious Assassin) + Chill Clip | Top-tier
New Purpose | New Purpose | Pulse Rifle | High-Impact | Primary | Stasis | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Duality Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE + PvP | Duality Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Stasis | Ammo: Primary | Archetype: High-Impact PvE God Roll: Feeding Frenzy + Headstone (also good: Desperado) PvP God Roll: Perpetual Motion (also good: Tunnel Vision) + Desperado ► For those not wanting to grind out The Messenger, New Purpose is the next best thing. Desperado was recently nerfed and is now significantly less potent, but it's still crazy fun in both PvE and PvP. Plus, New Purpose's Stasis element and Headstone can also play an integral part in a PvE Stasis build. | Season 17 | Slot: Stasis | Ammo: Primary | Archetype: High-Impact PvE God Roll: Feeding Frenzy + Headstone (also good: Desperado) PvP God Roll: Perpetual Motion (also good: Tunnel Vision) + Desperado | Top-tier
The Navigator | The Navigator | Trace Rifle | Exotic | Special | Strand | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Ghost of the Deep Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE + PvP | Ghost of the Deep Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Strand | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Exotic Exotic Perk: "Firing this weapon at an ally grants Woven Mail to both the user and the target. Dealing sustained damage severs the target." ► The Navigator is obscenely powerful on the Titan class but only average on Warlock and Hunter. On Titan, The Navigator can deal outrageous damage with the Grapple Melee, Wormgod Caress, and a one-two punch Shotgun. | Season 21 | Slot: Strand | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Exotic Exotic Perk: "Firing this weapon at an ally grants Woven Mail to both the user and the target. Dealing sustained damage severs the target." | Top-tier
Adjudicator | Adjudicator | Submachine Gun | Precision | Primary | Kinetic | Free-to-Play | Yes | A › Strong | Prophecy Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE + PvP | Prophecy Dungeon Free-to-Play | Slot: Kinetic | Ammo: Primary | Archetype: Precision PvE God Roll: Subsistence (also good: Feeding Frenzy) + Onslaught (also good: Rampage ) PvP God Roll: Threat Detector + Fragile Focus ► Adjudicator makes up for its lack of elemental affinity with a suite of powerful damage perks that synergize perfectly with the Crossing Over origin trait. As for The Crucible, Adjudicator is a potent choice for SMG enthusiasts and casual players alike. | Season 23 | Slot: Kinetic | Ammo: Primary | Archetype: Precision PvE God Roll: Subsistence (also good: Feeding Frenzy) + Onslaught (also good: Rampage ) PvP God Roll: Threat Detector + Fragile Focus | Top-tier
Fixed Odds | Fixed Odds | Machine Gun | High-Impact | Heavy | Solar | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Duality Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Duality Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Solar | Ammo: Heavy | Archetype: High-Impact PvE God Roll: Feeding Frenzy + Incandescent (also good: Rampage) ► A fan favorite, Fixed Odds is one of the best options among slow-firing Machine guns. Offering a fine selection of perks, Fixed Odds is a great pick and performs nicely in more difficult content featuring beefier enemies. | Season 17 | Slot: Solar | Ammo: Heavy | Archetype: High-Impact PvE God Roll: Feeding Frenzy + Incandescent (also good: Rampage) | Top-tier
Unforgiven | Unforgiven | Submachine Gun | Aggressive | Primary | Void | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Duality Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Duality Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Void | Ammo: Primary | Archetype: Aggressive PvE God Roll: Demolitionist (also good: Feeding Frenzy) + Adrenaline Junkie (also good: Rampage) ► Unforgiven is commonly forgotten due to its abysmal reload speed stat but is actually highly underrated. With Demolitionist in the first column and extremely synergistic perks in the second, Unforgiven is a clear choice for any Void 3.0 build. | Season 17 | Slot: Void | Ammo: Primary | Archetype: Aggressive PvE God Roll: Demolitionist (also good: Feeding Frenzy) + Adrenaline Junkie (also good: Rampage) | Top-tier
No Survivors | No Survivors | Submachine Gun | Aggressive | Primary | Solar | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Ghost of the Deep Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Ghost of the Deep Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Solar | Ammo: Primary | Archetype: Aggressive PvE God Roll: Demolitionist + Adrenaline Junkie (also good: Incandescent) ► The recent nerf to Target Lock may have removed most of No Survivors' utility in The Crucible, but it still highly excels in PvE. While many continue to opt for their crafted rolls of CALUS Mini-Tool, No Survivors does offer a host of different options you can build into that its competition doesn't. | Season 21 | Slot: Solar | Ammo: Primary | Archetype: Aggressive PvE God Roll: Demolitionist + Adrenaline Junkie (also good: Incandescent) | Top-tier
New Pacific Epitaph | New Pacific Epitaph | Grenade Launcher | Wave | Special | Stasis | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Ghost of the Deep Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Ghost of the Deep Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Stasis | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Wave PvE God Roll: Demolitionist (also good: Lead from Gold) + Redirection (also good: Adrenaline Junkie) ► New Pacific Epitaph is our first handheld Stasis Waveframe. What it lacks in traditional rolls, it makes up for in uniqueness, as it is the only wave frame available to get Demolitionist. Paired with Redirection, and you'll find a GL that could slowly become a top pick. | Season 21 | Slot: Stasis | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Wave PvE God Roll: Demolitionist (also good: Lead from Gold) + Redirection (also good: Adrenaline Junkie) | Top-tier
Naeem's Lance | Naeem's Lance | Sniper Rifle | Rapid-Fire | Special | Strand | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Warlord's Ruin Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Warlord's Ruin Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Strand | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Rapid-Fire PvE God Roll: Reconstruction + Precision Instrument ► Naeem's Lance was immediately forgotten about after its release with Warlord's Ruin, but we don't think that's completely warranted. With the combination of Reconstruction and Precision Instrument, Naeem's can become one of the most capable 140 RPM snipers for PvE. | Season 23 | Slot: Strand | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Rapid-Fire PvE God Roll: Reconstruction + Precision Instrument | Top-tier
Indebted Kindness | Indebted Kindness | Sidearm | Rocket-Assisted | Special | Arc | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Warlord's Ruin Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Warlord's Ruin Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Arc | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Rocket-Assisted PvE God Roll: Beacon Rounds (also good: Impulse Amplifier) + Voltshot (also good: Adagio) ► Dropping from Warlord's Ruin, Indebted Kindess is the hot weapon to farm for. With the right roll, this goofy little sidearm can actually be the highest DPS special weapon in the game thanks to Adagio or Surrounded. It can even turn into a different damage type thanks to Permeability. | Season 23 | Slot: Arc | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Rocket-Assisted PvE God Roll: Beacon Rounds (also good: Impulse Amplifier) + Voltshot (also good: Adagio) | Top-tier
Buried Bloodline | Buried Bloodline | Sidearm | Exotic | Special | Void | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Warlord's Ruin Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Warlord's Ruin Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Void | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Exotic Exotic Perk: "Fires two tracking bolts that leech health from the target. Rapid final blows with this weapon grant Devour to the wielder." ► Buried Bloodline is a very unique and fun exotic to use. It allows you to obtain Devour on non-void subclasses, which is immensely strong and works brilliantly with builds that are all about spamming Grenades as much as possible. | Season 23 | Slot: Void | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Exotic Exotic Perk: "Fires two tracking bolts that leech health from the target. Rapid final blows with this weapon grant Devour to the wielder." | Top-tier
1000 Yard Stare | 1000 Yard Stare | Sniper Rifle | Adaptive | Special | Void | 30th Anniversary | Yes | A › Strong | Grasp of Avarice Dungeon | Strong ❘ A Excels in: PvP | Grasp of Avarice Dungeon 30th Anniversary | Slot: Void | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Adaptive PvP God Roll: Quickdraw (also good: No Distractions) + Snapshot Sights ► 1000 Yard Stare has been out for a while but has yet to decline in popularity; its excellent stats and S-Tier perks have kept it in the meta even through newer releases. If you're looking for a solid Legendary sniper rifle that combines ease of use and lethality, 1000 Yard Stare is for you. | 30th Anniversary event | Slot: Void | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Adaptive PvP God Roll: Quickdraw (also good: No Distractions) + Snapshot Sights | Top-tier
The Epicurean | The Epicurean | Fusion Rifle | Precision | Special | Void | Deluxe Edition | Yes | A › Strong | Duality Dungeon | Strong ❘ A | Duality Dungeon Deluxe Edition | Slot: Void | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Precision PvP God Roll: Quickdraw (also good: Well-Rounded) + Moving Target (also good: Backup Plan) ► With the right roll, The Epicurean can have a base stability that matches Main Ingredient's god roll, and when using Counterbalance Stock, can achieve 100 recoil direction. If that isn't enough, consider that Well-Rounded x2 adds 20 range and stability, and you can see why this gun is so powerful. | Season 17 | Slot: Void | Ammo: Special | Archetype: Precision PvP God Roll: Quickdraw (also good: Well-Rounded) + Moving Target (also good: Backup Plan) | Top-tier |
These are the different Tier levels used for this tier list ranking:
- S Tier – Best: Highest ranking weapon types.
- A Tier – Strong: Very strong weapon types, but not on the same level as S Tier Choices.
- B Tier – Average: Decent choices that can be lethal in the hands of a skilled player.
- C Tier – Weak: The middle of the pack, somewhat mediocre.
- D Tier – Worst: Lagging behind the competition, these don’t have much to offer.
The list starts with the S Tier and moves down from there.
Destiny 2 Dungeon weapon farming: How to get them
Farming dungeons for unlimited loot is easier than you think. All you need is a committed Fireteam and a couple of hours ahead of you.
Farming newer dungeons
This is how you can go about farming both Prophecy and Grasp of Avarice dungeons:
- Go through the dungeon on your first character until you reach the encounter you want to farm.
- Start the encounter and wipe (i.e. die without beating it).
- Ask your Fireteam to wait. Change characters and log into a character that hasn’t run the dungeon that week.
- On that second character, join again your Fireteam.
- Wipe again. Now your second character has the proper checkpoint.
And that’s it. You can now farm that encounter ad nauseam until reset! To continue farming, you need to:
- Launch the dungeon using your second character (the one that is holding the checkpoint).
- Change characters and rejoin your Fireteam on your first character.
- Complete the encounter for loot.
- Exit the dungeon, switch characters again, and repeat Step 1.
This is how you can technically farm a dungeon.
These Dungeon loot tables cover exactly what items can drop from every encounter.
Farming older dungeons?
Up until recently, farming older dungeons (Shattered Throne or Pit of Heresy) was impossible. Just like older raids, these could only be completed once per character per week.
But Season of the Haunted (S17) introduced a Raid and Dungeon rotation. Every week, a different raid and dungeon are part of the weekly rotation, which means they become fully farmable, on top of also offering a Pinnacle reward each. This page covers the weekly Raid and dungeon rotation in depth.
Ranking criteria
For the record, as much as we tried to keep this list as objective as possible, it’s still based on our personal experience playing the PC version of the game.
Finally, if you’re wondering what criteria was used to build this Tier list, these are the main factors I took into account:
- Lethality: The higher the effective DPS and usability, the higher the ranking.
- Consistency: Some weapons may not have the highest DPS numbers, but they are so consistent, they more than make up for their lower DPS numbers.
- Ease of use: Similar to the point above, some weapons are very effective because they are easy to use and don’t require too much skill or setup. This is also rewarded with higher rankings.
- PVE/PVP Performance: High lethality in either PVE or PVP is equally valuable. However, a weapon that is good at both PVE and PVP should rank higher than one that is slightly better on only PVE or PVP.
- Fun factor: Not the most important factor, but it also helps if the weapon is damn fun to shoot with!
If you strongly disagree with some of the rankings here, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section. By the way, what is your personal favorite?
