Back when Ghosts of the Deep was initially released, rocket launchers were all the rage. This made the activity’s featured aggressive frame launcher, Cold Comfort, an absurdly potent choice for a long while.
With time, however, the meta has shifted, making Cold Comfort now relatively weak. Luckily, Rite of the Nine delivered a renewed version of the weapon. Does it match the power of its early predecessor? Let’s take a look.

How good is the Cold Comfort
While the new version of Cold Comfort is objectively strong, it isn’t definitively better than what came before it.
The main loss seen in the weapon’s new perk pool is Envious Assassin, which synergized perfectly with its Restoration Ritual origin trait. While its replacement, Envious Arsenal, is no doubt strong, it removes the niche use case Cold Comfort still had going for it, slightly reducing its potency.
As for The Crucible, Cold Comfort is pretty standard and offers all that you’d need in a legendary rocket launcher. Cold Comfort is S-Tier for PvE and B-tier for PvP.

Cold Comfort PvE god rolls
PvE Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Quick Launch |
Magazine | Impact Casing |
Perk 1 | Envious Arsenal (also good: Reconstruction) |
Perk 2 | Bait and Switch (also good: Elemental Honing) |
Masterwork | Handling (also good: Velocity) |
Origin Trait | Restoration Ritual (also good: Gravity Well) |
Quick Launch and a handling or velocity masterwork provide us with some solid stat bumps, while Impact Casing increases base damage by a slight amount.
Envious Arsenal with Bait and Switch is the first and most obvious combination we recommend due to their synergy and potency in weapon rotations. However, Reconstruction is a solid replacement for column one, and Elemental Honing is bonkers if you fully play into it.
Cold Comfort PvP god rolls
PvP Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Quick Launch |
Magazine | High-Velocity Rounds |
Perk 1 | Tracking Module |
Perk 2 | Chill Clip |
Masterwork | Blast Radius |
Origin Trait | Restoration Ritual |
Cold Comfort’s perk selection is a lot less important in terms of PvP, but we’ll still make some specific choices to increase the weapon’s potency.
Starting with stat-boosting traits, we’ll opt for Quick Launch, High-Velocity Rounds, and a blast radius masterwork. Tracking Module in column one offers some nice utility when using the weapon in long-range scenarios. Chill Clip then rounds out our roll with extra utility if your shot doesn’t secure the kill.
How to get Cold Comfort
The newest version of Cold Comfort is available from the Rite of the Nine event. It can be obtained from the three unique difficulties of Ghosts of the Deep featured in the event, as well as in the chest at the Third Spire for 250 Nonary Manifolds.
If you’re looking specifically for Cold Comfort, remember that you can attune for it at the Third Spire as well! This significantly increases the chance of the rocket dropping in comparison to other available weapons. We cover the entire Ghost of the Deep loot table here.
