Destiny 2 Luna’s Howl: God Rolls and How to get it

by | Mar 27, 2024

Last week, some key art had players in a frenzy over a particular hand cannon a Hunter was holding. Yesterday, we got confirmation that it is indeed our beloved Luna’s Howl! And today, we are going to be getting its entire perk suite. As this is a rare opportunity to see the perks before the guns are even in our hands, we’ll be covering our speculative god rolls for this era defining weapon.

How to get Luna’s Howl

Luna’s, along with the other 11 returning weapons, will be rewards from the Onslaught activity. Before you can have it drop, however, you’ll need to pick up and complete the weapon quest tied to it. Once you turn it in, Luna’s can be obtained from Onslaught or by rolling it at Shaxx’s Treasure Chest.

And like all the others, you can attune for better chances at having it drop, and even get a “shiny” version. We will be covering the Brave Weapons Rotation here.

How good will Luna’s Howl be?

Given that both Magnificent Howl was nerfed, Luna’s won’t be as overpowered as it used to be. However, that doesn’t mean it will be any worse for wear. Its new suite of perks are shaping up to make it one of the most powerful 140 hand cannons, especially when you consider it takes the stats of a precision frame in terms of accuracy. A perfect dueling weapon for the hand cannon aficionados.

For PvE, Luna’s might find some use as a placeholder for Zaolui’s Bane or Sunshot as it rolls with a nice suite of Solar perks, but unless the damage matches that of other 140s, it might be worth avoiding it here.

Luna’s Howl Perks and God Rolls

The Luna’s Howl Hand Cannon comes with the following perks:

  • Perk 1: Eye of the Storm, Subsistence, Discord, Encore, Slideshot, Enlightened Action, and Heal Clip
  • Perk 2: Magnificent Howl, Kill Clip, Incandescent, Desperate Measures, Opening Shot, Precision Instrument, and Harmony.
  • Origin Trait: Indomitability

Luna’s Howl PvE god roll

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling (if applicable)
  • Magazine: Appended Mag (if applicable)
  • Perk 1: Heal Clip (also good: Enlightened Action)
  • Perk 2: Incandescent or Desperate Measures
  • Masterwork: Reload Speed

PvE is awash with people using Solar hand cannons right now, namely Zaouli’s and Sunshot, so this is a perfect placeholder for them. Before we get into perks, we’ll need to make sure we bump up the range a little as it’s the lowest found on a 140, next to Ancient Gospel. Hammer-Forged is the go to for this as it is all buff and no nerf. For the magazine, Appended Mag will work well, giving you two extra bullets at no cost to reload speed.

Perk 1 has solid PvP options, but only one really good perk for PvE: Heal Clip. Now that this heals 120 HP instead of the 60 it used to, Heal Clip is perfect for survivability builds. If that isn’t your dig, Enlightened Action can help speed up the reloads. For perk 2, Incandescent or Desperate Measures are probably the best, though arguments can be made for a few others. Incandescent for your Solar builds, Desperate Measures for raw damage. Depending upon how the new Magnificent Howl works, it might also be a pick for PvE, though that’s to be seen.

Luna’s Howl PvP god roll

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling or Full Bore (if applicable)
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds or Ricochet Rounds (if applicable)
  • Perk 1: Eye of the Storm or Slideshot
  • Perk 2: Opening Shot or Precision Instrument
  • Masterwork: Range

PvP has long awaited the return of Luna’s, and to ensure it performs at its peak, we’ll be bumping its range as far as we can take it. Depending upon what is available, Full Bore and Accurized Rounds will give you the most range benefits at the cost of stability and handling. If that isn’t preferred, Hammer-Forged Rifling gives almost the same range buff without losing any other stats.

Perk 1 has some very good options for PvP, some of the best for hand cannons, actually. Eye of the Storm will be a duelists’ dream for the accuracy bonuses, and Slideshot for the true peek players. Perk 2 is absolutely stacked and it’s almost impossible to narrow down what’s best. Opening Shot will let you open up fights more reliably with the range buff and Precision Instrument can sway the fight in your favor if you end up missing a crit. And depending on the new Magnificent Howl, it could be a very good replacement for Kill Clip. Pick what your heart desires.
