Destiny 2 Hammerhead: God Rolls & How to get it

by | Aug 13, 2024

Into the Light was a great success. It released a terrific new activity, Onslaught, and marked the return of some of the best weapons the game has ever seen. Today, we focus on one of the strongest weapons of the bunch: The Hammerhead.

Chapters

How good is the Hammerhead?

Just like nearly all other 450 RPM machine guns currently available, Hammerhead is an instant top pick in all areas of the game.

In PvE, Hammerhead offers pretty much everything you’d want. Whether you’re using it for ad clear, DPS, or in combination with a build that utilizes something like Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk on Hunter, Hammerhead’s diverse perk pool can cater in any direction.

As for The Crucible, Hammerhead’s consistent and stable feel alone makes it a top-tier choice. Even regardless of perks, the weapon has quickly become a staple heavy option for casual and competitive Guardians alike.

Tier Rank & “Roles”: Hammerhead is an S-Tier choice in both PvE and PvP.

Best alternatives:

Hammerhead Perks and God Rolls

The Hammerhead machine gun can roll with the following perks:

  • Perk 1: Feeding Frenzy, Destabilizing Rounds, Envious Assassin, Rampage, Fourth Time’s the Charm, Rewind Rounds, Under-Over
  • Perk 2: Surrounded, High-Impact Reserves, Target Lock, Onslaught, Killing Tally, Desperate Measures, Tap the Trigger
  • Origin Trait: Indomitability

Perk 1 Rampage (also good: Rewind Rounds)
Perk 2 Killing Tally (also good: Onslaught)
Masterwork Handling

We’ll opt for Arrowhead Break, Appended Mag, and a Handling masterwork for more handling and a more manageable recoil. From there, Rampage and Killing Tally is our preferred combo, as it is what makes the Hammerhead unique. Plus, this is the perfect combo if you want to go all in on the damage output.

Rewind Rounds and Killing Tally is also an excellent combination, but there’s tons of room for mixing it up here. Fourth Time’s the Charm, Feeding Frenzy, and Envious Assassin all provide similar benefits to Rewind Rounds. Onslaught is also worth mentioning in the final column, which just got re-released and pairs perfectly with something like Rampage.

Recommended Loadout: The Mountaintop, Sunshot, Hammerhead.

Hammerhead PvP god roll

PvP Roll: All-Around

Perk 1 Rampage (also good: Under-Over)
Perk 2 Tap the Trigger
Masterwork Stability

We’ll begin by opting for higher stability through Arrowhead Break, Ricochet Rounds, and a Stability masterwork. Rampage may seem like a strange choice for perk one, but its increased damage is realistically the best thing you can get out of this column for The Crucible.

As for the final column, we chose Tap the Trigger since two damage perks seemed like overkill. However, if you want to try for an extremely short TTK instead of wanting more consistency, exploring other offerings in this column isn’t a bad idea.

How to get the Hammerhead

You can obtain Hammerhead by participating in Onslaught activities. Brave weapons are guaranteed to drop when completing 10 waves but can also randomly drop throughout the activity. Clearing 50 waves in a single run will reward you with extra drops.

With Update 8.0.5, you can now visit Zavala in the Tower to access the new Onslaught Attunement menu.

There, you can attune to a single BRAVE Arsenal weapon, increasing its drop chance by 60% in Onslaught. Onslaught Attunement has no cooldown or cost, so you can swap your chosen weapon at any time. We cover all Brave Weapons here.
