Destiny 2 Zero Hour Exotic Mission: Rotation & Loot

by | Apr 6, 2024

Into the Light is packed with exciting content that’s sure to get new and returning Guardians hyped for The Final Shape’s release. While most of the announced additions are entirely new, veteran players have their hearts set on the return of two fan-favorite exotic missions: The Whisper and Zero Hour.

Today, we’ll discuss the latter, which immediately cemented itself as one of the best pieces of content to ever enter Destiny 2 upon its release in Season of the Drifter. Not only was the mission enjoyable to run, but it also came with Outbreak Perfected, an exotic pulse rifle originally released in Destiny 1.

Zero Hour’s Return

Zero Hour’s return was revealed in Bungie’s developer livestream that took place on April 2. Just like the return of The Whisper mission and fan-favorite legendary weapons, the news immediately sparked considerable excitement in the community. Even though you can still get Outbreak Perfected in the live game through a kiosk, the mission was loved dearly by anyone who stepped foot in it.

Zero Hour will be available through a questline beginning with Ada-1, which will be released in May 2024. While full details of the quest are still unknown, we do know that it will be free to all players, offer both normal and Legend difficulties, and will award the Outbreak Perfected exotic pulse rifle.

An Stellar Exotic Mission

Zero Hour is a timed exotic mission that takes place in the old (now destroyed) Tower from Destiny 1. You and up to two other Guardians can enter together, where you’ll begin by fighting through multiple rooms of Fallen combatants. You’ll then make your way through a large traversal section (which changes depending on what difficulty you select), leading to a boss encounter at the end.

In the mission’s normal version, you’ll have 40 minutes to explore. After time expires, your fireteam will be immediately booted to orbit, where you’ll need to restart and try again. If you plan on trying out the Legend difficulty of Zero Hour (which offers additional upgrades and rewards), it cuts the timer in half to a mere 20 minutes.

Destiny 2 Zero Hour Loot Table & Rewards

Completing the Zero Hour mission for the first time will reward you with the coveted Outbreak Perfected exotic pulse rifle, along with its crafting pattern to go with it. One of the most adored weapons to ever enter the game, this pulse rifle has never failed to be an outstanding choice for all areas of Destiny 2.

Once Zero Hour releases in May, additional quests will become available throughout the three weeks afterward, offering added upgrades to Outbreak Perfected. These upgrades haven’t been fully revealed yet, but Bungie states that at least one will enhance the weapon’s intrinsic behavior. Zero Hour’s Legend difficulty also offers Outbreak Perfected’s catalyst, which adds the Disease Vector perk.

Catalyst and Intrinsic Upgrades

While no details regarding the weapon’s catalyst have been shared, we can safely assume The Whisper to have the same reward structure as the other Exotic Missions on rotation:

It is worth noting that the exotic reward, Dead Man’s Tale, is now craftable. As explained by Bungie:

  • The first completion of the mission on Normal or Legendary difficulty will award the Exotic Deepsight weapon associated with the mission.
  • Each completion of the Normal or Legendary version of the Exotic mission will award an intrinsic upgrade that can be used when crafting the Exotic weapon.
  • Each completion of the Legendary version of the Exotic mission will award a Catalyst upgrade for the crafted Exotic weapon.

Note that Exotic Missions feature two difficulties, Normal and Legendary, and each will have separate weekly reward lockouts.

An Exclusive Exotic Ship

Apart from Outbreak Perfected and its upgrades, Zero Hour will also offer the new Vimana Junker ship. Exact details as to how to get this ship aren’t revealed just yet, but it can be expected to involve a hidden puzzle in Zero Hour itself.
