[toc] Outbreak Perfected was in a bad spot. It had a stellar Exotic quest and top-tier Catalyst, but they were removed from the game, with the latter becoming unavailable for over a year.
But with the release of The Witch Queen, the catalyst for Outbreak Perfected (among others) is finally available again. This quick guide will tell you everything there is to know about it: How to get it? How to unlock it? Is it even worth it?
And that last part is important because Exotic catalysts can be extremely hard to find and/or unlock, but the benefits are not always up to par.
How to get Outbreak Perfected’s catalyst
While the amazing “Zero Hour” exotic quest is still gone, the catalyst for Outbreak Perfected can be found through:
Playlist activities (Strikes, Crucible, Gambit) completions
As is the case of many other catalysts, this one is purely RNG-based, which means that finding it will depend on your luck.
How to unlock the catalyst?
Once you have found the catalyst, you will need:
- 500 kills (to be confirmed, as previously, the catalyst required Precision final blows and gathering SIVA Particulate from Heroic Zero Hour)

Can you farm Outbreak Perfected’s catalyst?
To unlock the Catalyst, any place with lots of easy-to-kill enemies can be a good spot. The Shuro Chi encounter from the Last With raid is a particularly popular spot to farm catalysts.
Another great alternative is the entrance to the Grasp of Avarice dungeon. It doesn’t require a checkpoint and enemies literally spawn forever.
Outbreak Perfected Catalyst Perks
The catalyst adds the following perk:
- Disease Vector: Increases nanite damage. Enemies that die with nanites attached to them generate additional nanites.
Outbreak Perfected used to be a top-tier weapon. It was so good, dedicated Fireteams were able to eliminate Bosses exclusively using this weapon. But then the weapon was nerfed and quickly forgotten. This is changing, though, as The Witch Queen introduced much-needed buffs to Pulse rifles:
Pulse Rifles take slightly too long to kill red bar enemies in PvE. We’re buffing their damage vs. minors by 10 percent.
And more importantly, Exotic Primary weapons are also receiving a major buff:
Note that this change applies to all Exotics that use Primary ammo, and includes most secondary effects (e.g., perk-triggered explosions): Increased damage vs minors in PvE by 40 percent.
We’ll see if these buffs will be enough to bring Outbreak Perfected back to the top of the Meta.
How to get the Outbreak Perfected?
If you still don’t have Outbreak Perfected, you can purchase it at the Monument to Lost Lights in the Tower. It will cost you:
- 1 Exotic Cipher
- 150,000 Glimmer
- 250 Dusklight Shard
- 2 Ascendant Shards

More Destiny 2 Catalysts:
Is the Catalyst worth it?
Both weapon and catalyst can be easily considered A Tier:
- A Tier – Strong: Very strong, but not on the same level as S Tier Choices.
With a combined 44% damage increase introduced with the launch of The Witch Queen DLC, Outbreak Perfected is set to become a top choice for PVE content once again. Plus, this 44% damage buff should also apply to Outbreak Perfected’s nanites, which should lead to even more promising DPS numbers.
Only time will tell, but I bet Outbreak Perfected will be finally back.
