Destiny 2 Voidwalker: Best Builds, Exotics & Fragments

by | Jan 17, 2024

Voidwalker is one of the four Warlock subclasses available in Destiny 2. And as of Season of the Wish (S23), Dawnblade remains a strong subclass, especially for PvE.

This guide covers the best Voidwalker Warlock builds, Fragments, and Exotics that make the Voidwalker such a powerful subclass.

What is Voidwalker in Destiny 2?

Voidwalker is the name of the Void-based subclass available to Warlocks in Destiny 2.

Voidwalker (Void 3.0)

  • Ranking: A Strong

With all of its buffs, debuffs, and ad-clear potential, Voidwalker is one of the most well-rounded subclasses in the entire game. It has a good mix of options for both boss and ad clear scenarios and even has one of the coolest aspects in the game (in Child of the Old Gods). Plus, potent Warlock exotics like Contraverse Hold, Nezarec’s Sin, or the new Briarbinds (we cover how to get the Briarbinds here), can constantly keep your grenades and other abilities up.

From healing through Devour and Feed the Void to debuffing with Weaken and Echo of Undermining, Voidwalker can excel in anything from patrol to Grandmaster Nightfalls.

Preferred Exotic: Contraverse Hold is generally the top pick, but Nezrec’s Sin is fantastic with a Void weapon.

Preferred Aspects and Fragments:

  • Aspects: Feed the Void and Child of the Old Gods is the go-to setup for most, but swap Child of the Old Gods for Chaos Accelerant when using Contraverse Hold.
  • Fragments: Echo of Undermining, Echo of Remnants, Echo of Persistence, Echo of Instability.

Preferred Abilities and Stats:

  • Stats: Recovery, Resilience, Discipline.
  • Abilities: Nova Bomb: Cataclysm is the best Super overall, and Vortex Grenade is easily the strongest grenade. And with only one melee ability, the rest (jump and rift choice) is up to you.

Voidwalker Warlock builds for PvE

These are some of the best Destiny 2 Voidwalker builds right now; you can find more excellent Warlock builds here:

Void Warlock

Void Leech

Excels In: Grandmaster Content

Goal of the Build: Be able to debuff everything in sight while maintaining Devour for survivability.

Mandatory Gear: Secant Filaments. Collective Obligation is recommended.

  • Aspects: Feed the Void and Child of the Old Gods.
  • Fragments: Echo of Undermining, Echo of Instability, Echo of Domineering, and either Echo of Expulsion or Echo of Harvest.
  • Abilities: Suppressor Grenade and Empowering Rift.
  • Stats: Resilience 🡒 Recovery 🡒 Discipline.
  • Mods:
    • Helmet: Harmonic Siphon.
    • Arms: Grenade Kickstart.
    • Chest: Charged Up.
    • Legs: Stacks on Stacks.
    • Class Item: Bomber.

Gameplay Loop

Because there are so many moving parts to this build, there’s no one “loop” you’ll need to execute. You have multiple ways to debuff enemies: Weaken and Suppression with a grenade, Volatile from melee and Volatile Rounds, and more Weaken from Child of the Old Gods. Plus, you’ll get Devour by placing your rift or getting an ability kill.

After debuffing an enemy with any of these sources, shoot them once with Collective Obligation. Holding reload will cause the weapon to fire bullets that debuff enemies with any effect you shot earlier. After the chaos subsides, you should have most abilities recharged and ready for a second round.

Warlock Void featured Destiny 2

Void Caster

Excels In: Solo Content

Goal of the Build: Cover the battlefield with weakening Void Souls, gain substantial amounts of grenade energy, and Volatile Rounds.

Mandatory Gear: Briarbinds. A Void primary weapon is recommended.

  • Aspects: Feed the Void and Child of the Old Gods
  • Fragments: Echo of Instability, Echo of Undermining, Echo of Vigilance, and Echo of Harvest
  • Abilities: Nova Bomb: Cataclysm, Vortex Grenade, and Healing Rift.
  • Stats: Resilience 🡒 Recovery.
  • Mods:
    • Helmet: Harmonic Siphon
    • Arms: Bolstering Detonation x2
    • Chest: Stat, Reserve, and Damage Resistance mods
    • Legs: Elemental Charge, Void Weapon Surge, and Insulation
    • Class Item: Bomber, Powerful Attraction

Gameplay Loop

The loop here is relatively straightforward: start by placing a rift, then shoot an enemy to send out your Void Soul. Killing combatants that are weakened by either this or your grenade will trigger Echo of Harvest, granting you a Void Breach. Killing an enemy with a grenade will also grant your Void weapon(s) Volatile Rounds.

Once you and your fireteam clear the wave of enemies your Void Soul is centered around, you can interact with it to once again get Void Soul Ready. As mentioned earlier, placing more rifts will grant you more Void Souls, allowing you to have multiple on the battlefield simultaneously.

That’s about it for the basics of this build, but you can make it infinitely more complex by adding a synergistic weapon like Collective Obligation or a legendary weapon with Repulsor Brace.

Voidwalker Subclass in PvP (Void 3.0)

Voidwalker (Void 3.0)

  • Ranking: B Average

Void Subclass Destiny 2 iconVoidwalker provides a fair amount of utility in some scenarios but is still often regarded as average for PVP.

The debuff and healing potential of Weaken and Devour deserve to be mentioned, but the Radiant and Restoration effects of Solar tend to do the same thing better. Additionally, other than Child of the Old Gods (which absolutely deserves to be discussed here), the Aspect choices for Voidwalker aren’t the strongest or most flashy.

A wide variety of Supers, however, helps Voidwalker stand out a slight amount. Nova Warp is a passable roaming Super, and both Nova Bombs excel in different situations.

While Voidwalker isn’t the strongest subclass in PVP, it does have many unique facets that help it stand out from the pack.

Preferred Exotic: Because there isn’t an extremely strong Voidwalker PVP exotic, we recommend using a passive exotic instead (Transversive Steps, Ophidian Aspect, etc.).

Exotic Perk: "Sprint speed increased. After a short time sprinting, your currently equipped weapon is automatically reloaded."

Preferred Aspects and Fragments:

  • Aspects: Child of the Old Gods is the best Aspect here, with Feed the Void and Chaos Accelerant being about the same. Both can be good in some situations, but it depends on your playstyle.
  • Fragments: Echo of Persistence, Echo of Remnants, Echo of Undermining.

Preferred Abilities and Stats:

Stats: Discipline, Recovery, Intellect

Abilities: Super choice is mostly up to you here, but overall we think Nova Bomb: Cataclysm is best. Vortex Grenade, Suppressor Grenade, and Axion Bolt are all good options for grenades, and Empowering Rift can be used here if Feed the Void is equipped.
