While Seasons keep Destiny 2 alive throughout the year, Expansions get most of the attention. Seasons are responsible for most of the new gear and activities that keep us returning for more. Yet Expansions are responsible for the new locations, campaigns, and brand-new raids and play an important role in the game’s roadmap and future.
Destiny 2 DLC Expansions
A total of 9 distinct Destiny 2 Expansions have been released so far, with 2 more announced for 2025. This list covers all 11 known D2 Expansions in detail, including their start and end dates, Power level caps, and endgame content.

Newest D2 Expansion: The Final Shape
The Final Shape is the current Destiny 2 Expansion. Despite not reaching player counts as high as Lightfall, many consider it the best Expansion to date.
It features a terrific campaign that managed the impossible: Provide us with a satisfying end to the 10-year Light and Dark saga. It also introduced the fan-favorite Prismatic Subclass, several top-tier weapons and many well-liked quests. We detail everything that came with this Expansion in our Destiny 2 Calendar guide.
Next Destiny 2 Expansion: The Edge of Fate

What to Expect from an Expansion
This is everything you can expect from an Expansion in Destiny 2:
- A new destination
- A new Campaign, including a Legend difficulty
- A new activity
- A brand-new Raid or Dungeon
- New weapons
- New armor sets
- And sometimes, a new Element or Subclass
Plus, Expansions often feature content that is available to both Expansion owners and free-to-play players. For example, most Expansions give everyone access to their new destination, including free-to-play players.

While seasons all cost the same, the same can’t be said about their quality levels. Some were real bangers, while others left a lot to be desired. That said, The Final Shape will be a break-or-make moment for the Destiny franchise, and Bungie has admitted they are doing absolutely everything they can to ensure The Final Shape is at least as good as the best Destiny DLCs to date.
Will they succeed? Only time will tell…
