Destiny 2 Calendar: Road to The Final Shape

by | Jan 8, 2024

While Destiny 2 is not a perfect game, it remains one of the best live-service games on the market. Many have tried to copy the Destiny 2 formula, and virtually all of them failed.

The reason why Destiny 2 has managed to stay ahead and keep players engaged is their strong roadmap and steady content drops. We Destiny 2 players may complain that there is “nothing to do” all the time, but with DLCs, Expansions, Seasonal events, and secret quests, Destiny 2 has managed to keep players’ attention for close to 10 years now.

Destiny 2 Calendar: The Road to The Final Shape

With rotating PvE and PvP events, including GMs, Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, and themed events, Destiny 2 Seasons just work. But Season of the Wish (S23) will be Bungie’s biggest challenge to date.

With the postponement of The Final Shape, Season 23 will be the longest we have ever seen in Destiny 2’s history. The standard seasonal model won’t suffice, and Bungie knows it. They have already announced an additional content pack titled “Destiny 2: Into the Light” in hopes of keeping players engaged until The Final Shape releases. But will it suffice?

This is everything planned until the release of Destiny 2’s next Expansion. Consider this your unofficial Destiny 2 Calendar for Season 23.

As confirmed by Bungie, the priority is to add new content to keep the boat floating until June 2024:

While the majority of content and narrative for Season of the Wish will run from late November to February as originally planned, the team is adding new content available for all players to jump into until the launch of The Final Shape.

The addition of a new weekly progression-based quest and Moments of Triumph should do the heavy lifting in February -March:

In February, this will include new weekly progression-based quests called Wishes, and the launch of Moments of Triumph with unique rewards. Next, we’re moving Guardian Games up to March with a refreshed focus on class vs. class competition.

But perhaps the big “make or break” moment will be in April 2024, with the launch of Destiny 2 Into the Light:

Then, beginning in April, we’re delivering a two-month content update available to everyone called Destiny 2: Into the Light, which will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler. All of this is in addition to the ongoing efforts from our PvP Strike Team, including three new PvP maps dropping in May.

Needless to say, if Into the Light fails, The Final Shape may miss the mark in terms of expectations.

Here are the milestones Destiny 2 players can expect this season (both minor and major content drops):

  • December 1: Warlord’s Ruin dungeon
  • December 5: Iron Banner
  • December 12: The Dawning
  • December 19: Grandmasters Begin, Starcrossed Exotic Quest
  • December 26: Crucible Labs: Checkmate Countdown Rush
  • January 2: Iron Banner
  • January 16: Crucible Labs: Checkmate Clash
  • January 23: Iron Banner
  • February 2024: Wishes, Moments of Triumph –
  • March 2024: Guardian Games, TFS CE shipping –
  • April 2024: Destiny 2 Into the Ligh
  • May 2024: PvP Map Pack –
