Destiny 2 Sentinel: Best Builds, Exotics & Fragments

by | Feb 1, 2024

Sentinel is one of the five Titan subclasses available in Destiny 2. As of Season of the Wish (S23), Sentinel remains a strong subclass, especially for PvE.

This guide covers the best Sentinel Titan builds, Fragments, and Exotics that make Sentinel such a powerful subclass.

What is Sentinel in Destiny 2?

Sentinel is the name of the Void-based subclass available to Titans in Destiny 2.

Best Sentinel Fragments & Exotics

Titan Void 3.0 featured

Sentinel (Void 3.0)

  • Ranking: A Strong

One of Destiny’s most iconic subclasses, Sentinel has only gotten stronger since the release of Void 3.0. Sentinel allows Titan to take on more of a supportive role inside both PVP and PVE by supplying fireteam members with over-shields and debuffing enemies. Sentinel offers lots of customization in terms of playstyle, whether you want to lean more into the fireteam support or create some of the hardest-hitting melee builds in the game.

Preferred Exotic: Helm of Saint-14 and Doom Fang Pauldron are the two most dominant exotics that are built around Sentinel. Peregrine Greaves is also a solid choice for those wanting to take full advantage of Shield Bash. You could also go for No Backup Plans, as the Exotic perk is all about Overshields and shotguns.

While Sentinel Shield is active, defeating targets with melee attacks recharges Shield Throw, which extends your Super on hitting a target."

Exotic Perk: "Enemies that enter Ward of Dawn are blinded, while allies that pass through gain an overshield. Guarding with Sentinel Shield blinds nearby enemies."

Preferred Aspects and Fragments:

  • Aspects: All 3 of Sentinel’s Aspects are great to use. They all synergize well with each other, and hence any two can be chosen depending on the overall build/playstyle.
  • Fragments: Echo of Expulsion, Echo of Leeching, Echo of Dilation, Echo of Undermining.

Preferred Abilities and Stats:

  • Stats: Resilience, Discipline, Strength.
  • Abilities: Ward of Dawn is usually the best choice for Super. The buffs and protection it gives are extremely valuable, especially in end-game content. Both Shield Bash and Shield Throw are excellent melees. Shield Throw opens up the ability for a more ranged playstyle, whereas Shield Bash opens the door for some extremely strong melee builds. Vortex and Suppressor Grenades are the best options for PvE and PvP, respectively.

Sentinel Titan builds for PvE

These are some of the best Destiny 2 Sentinel builds right now; you can find more excellent Titan builds here:

Titan Void gameplay

One Punch (Bash) Man

Excels In: Endgame (Dungeons, Raids, Legend content)

Goal of the Build: Titans are known for their punching skills, and this build aims to take it to a new level. Peregrine Greaves now refunds all melee energy when hitting a miniboss, Champion, or Tormentor, and when paired with Void 3.0, cuts them down to size too.

Mandatory gear: Peregrine Greaves. Tractor Cannon is recommended.

  • Aspects: Bastion and Offensive Bulwark.
  • Fragments: Echo of Undermining, Echo of Leeching, and Echo of Expulsion.
  • Abilities: Vortex Grenade or Void Wall, Shield Bash.
  • Stats: Resilience 🡒 Recovery 🡒 Discipline 🡒 Strength.
  • Mods:
    • Helmet: Hands-On.
    • Arms: Heavy Handed, Melee Kickstart, Focusing Strike.
    • Chest: Relevant Resistance and Reserve Mods.

Gameplay Loop

The aspects used in this build work hand in hand with each other to help strengthen your melee damage you output. Bastion grants an overshield when using your barricade, allowing Offensive Bulwark to activate. This increases your melee damage, range, and regeneration. It also allows for melee final blows to increase the duration of the overshield. This loop of constant overshield helps you regen your other abilities faster and help keep the melee chain going.

Peregrine Greaves add to this by enhancing all shoulder charge abilities after being airborne for a short duration. To most enemies, this would be a 225% increase, but to anything classified as a mini-boss (Champions, Tormentors), this is a staggering 1000%!

So when going up against any of them, the idea is to apply Tractor Cannon’s debuff, sprint, jump, and then Shield Bash right into them. If they aren’t dead on the first go around, your melee should be back in time to do it again. It is important that you are in the air for at least half a second. Otherwise, the perk will not activate and you will not receive the damage buff, nor the melee energy.

Ursa Furiosa

Excels In: Endgame (Dungeons, Raids, Legend content)

Goal of the Build:Generate Super energy for both you and allies while also creating a safe zone for revives.

Mandatory gear: Ursa Furiosa.

  • Aspects: Bastion and Offensive Bulwark.
  • Fragments:  Echo of Expulsion, Echo of Leeching, Echo of Remnants, and Echo of Reprisal.
  • Abilities: Vortex Grenade, Shield Toss, Towering Barricade, Banner Shield.
  • Stats: Resilience 🡒 Strength.
  • Mods:
    • Helmet: Hands-On, Harmonic Siphon.
    • Arms: Melee Kickstart, Heavy Handed.
    • Chest: Resistance Mods based on your enemies.
    • Legs:  Better Already, Recuperation.
    • Class Item: Outreach.

Gameplay Loop

Banner Shield’s always been known as an orb factory, and with the enemy rich environment of Onslaught, there’s never been a better time to bring it back. Ursa Furiosa’s perk refunds up to 50% of your Super for blocking enemy attacks.

The loop is simple: Charge your super as fast as possible, then break it out when the situation gets dicey. Banner Shield can take quite the beating, and unlike Bubble or Well, you can reposition and still be effective. On top of this, you’ll be making orbs for other Supers as well as buffing damage, and with Ursa Furiosa, it won’t be long for the cycle to begin anew.

It is important to note that having an Overshield active while blocking damage will not count towards the energy refund.

Sentinel Subclass in PvP (Void 3.0)

Sentinel (Void 3.0)

  • Ranking: S Best

Void Subclass Destiny 2 iconSimply put, the best PvP subclass in the game right now. While many (rightfully) despise Sentinel, the fact of the matter is that overshields are overpowered in PvP and will continue to be as long as they exist. While 45 HP might not seem like much on paper, it can change the time-to-kill just enough to win the gunfight, and when paired with a certain exotic, can be nigh-unstoppable.

Preferred Exotic: Like Striker, Sentinel lacks Void-based exotics that work well inside PvP. Even with recent nerfs, Peacekeepers are a phenomenal choice to complement the aggressive playstyle. Other options include the jack-of-all-trades exotics like Crest of Alpha Lupi or One-Eyed Mask.

Exotic Perk: "Reloads stowed Submachine Guns and allows you to ready them instantly. Improves your handling with SMGs and your movement while wielding one."

Preferred Aspects and Fragments:

  • Aspects: Bastion is the must-have aspect for a PVP Sentinel build. The Overshield on the barricade is extremely potent. Offensive Bulwark pairs perfectly with this and provides a lot of buffs. Controlled Demolition can also be used to make players volatile for extra damage.
  • Fragments: Echo of Expulsion, Echo of Dilation, Echo of Leeching, Echo of Undermining.

Preferred Abilities and Stats:

  • Stats: Recovery, Resilience, Discipline.
  • Abilities: Suppressor and Vortex Grenades offer the most utility. Suppressor Grenades are extremely potent in ability-heavy sandboxes and can shutdown supers. Vortex Grenades help to block off lanes and can pull enemies from behind cover. Shield Bash is the better melee as it provides an extra movement option and can be used to suppress/finish off low-health targets. Ward of Dawn is an excellent super due to its survivability, buffs, and low cooldown. It is most effective in slower 3v3 game modes like Trials.
