Special ammo grenade launchers are perhaps the most diverse weapon class in the game; from ad clear to DPS, these weapons never fail to impress. While most of the community has been drawn to wave frame variants in recent years, there are other extremely potent options out there.
Today, we’ll be covering a fan-favorite exotic one from Season of Arrivals: Witherhoard.

How to get the Witherhoard Catalyst
After obtaining the weapon itself, Witherhoard’s catalyst is obtained via the “The Bank Job” questline (available at Banshee-44). If you can’t find it anywhere, be sure to check the abandoned Quests kiosk in either The Tower or The H.E.L.M.
The catalyst adds the following stats and perks:
- Silent Alarm: Increases Handling (+40). Holstering this weapon automatically reloads it after a short period of time.
Upon completing the quest, you’ll need to get 400 kills with Witherhoard to upgrade it. As is usual with objectives like this, the Shuro Chi encounter in the Last Wish raid is the go-to spot for farming.

How to get the Witherhoard Exotic
Witherhoard is available through the Monument to Lost Lights in The Tower. To purchase it, you’ll need the Shadowkeep DLC, in addition to one Exotic Cipher, one Ascendant Shard, and 100,000 Glimmer.
How good is Witherhoard?
Witherhoard comes with the following exotic perks:
- Primeval’s Torment: Projectiles fired by this weapon blight the target or nearby area on impact.
- Break the Bank: Blighted targets take damage over time and blight the nearby area on death.
These, in addition to Witherhoard’s catalyst (which equates to Auto-Loading Holster with a boost in handling), make the weapon consistently one of the best choices in the game. From ad clear and easy damage over time in PvE to effective area control in The Crucible, Witherhoard is a workhorse weapon that you simply can’t go wrong with.
Because of this, Witherhoard is S-Tier in both PvE and PvP.
