Destiny 2 The Coil Loot Guide: Weapons & Secret Chests

by | Nov 29, 2023

Season of the Wish (S23) is here and features two activities: Riven’s Lair and The Coil. Riven’s Lair is a relatively easy and straightforward activity. Jump in and get it over with to progress the seasonal storyline.

The Coild, however, is an entirely different story. This activity features several progressively harder stages and can take up to an hour to complete. The Coil is arguably the most challenging seasonal activity seen to date, but also one of the most rewarding. But fret not; we’ll help you farm it as efficiently as possible.

The Coil: Difficulty Levels and Hidden Chests

Simply put, The Coil is an activity that features four distinct sections that get progressively hard. You’ll need to clear the first section in order to unlock the next section and so on and so forth.

To give you an idea of the size and scope of The Coil, Riven’s Lair is equivalent to a single round of The Coil. As said before, each round gets more difficult, and you can expect coordinated teams to take up to 45 minutes to complete all 4 rounds.

Difficulty levels

Round Power Level
Round 1 -5
Round 2 -10 (Legend)
Round 3 -15
Round 4 -20 (Master)

Fused Wishing Glass: Platinum level Required

If you are to remember one thing, let it be this: The Coil is only worth it if you collect enough Fused Wishing Glass to open chests and get a Platinum score.

These “clear shards” drop when breaking pots spread throughout the level, and they are extremely important for three reasons:

  1. Shards allow you to buy buffs from Riven in between rounds
  2. Shards allow you to access the secret chests
  3. Shards dictate your final Score (and whether you get Platinum level or not)

Akin to Nightfalls, getting to the Platinum level is important because doing so will get you more loot. However, the difference between getting a Platinum score or not in The Coil is huge. Therefore, you want to take the time to find and break any vase you can find. A Platinum score is estimated to require 140,000 points or more.

How to farm Fused Wishing Glass

Vases are generally found in the platforming sections of The Coil, spread in between combat areas. Vases are not particularly hidden, but they are easy to miss if you’re in a rush. Given how important these shards are, taking the time to break them is well worth the effort.

The other way to secure significant quantities of shards is to defeat a Glass Collector. These specific enemies can randomly spawn throughout the level, mainly in the platforming sections. It is unclear at the time of this writing, however, whether Glass Collectors always spawn or not. Defeating these enemies should always be your top priority.

The Coil Secret Chests

There are a certain number of chests hidden behind locked doors. This is where Fused Wishing Glass plays another important role. Locked doors open only when you’ve collected a certain number of shards. The doors won’t tell you how many shards you need; they will either open if you have enough or remain closed if you don’t.

We’ll be testing these doors in the coming day to identify estimated quantities of shards needed to open chests.

Having said that, collecting as many shards along the way is critical because there is no catch-up mechanic in place. If you get to the first chest and don’t have enough shards, you’ll never have enough shards to open the next chest or the next one. As simple as that.
