Destiny 2 Meltdown Map: Callout Map, Tips & Tricks

by | Oct 20, 2023

Meltdown is a Crucible map located on Mars. While it was previously put away into the Destiny Content Vault (DCV), it was returned to us in Season of the Deep (S21) and is the featured Trials of Osiris Map this weekend.

In this article, we will cover the loadout strengths and weaknesses and some general strategy and gameplay tips to win on Meltdown.

Season of the Witch (S22) Meltdown Meta

As always, it is important to follow the meta. Right now, that is Submachine Guns, Pulse Rifles, and Hand Cannons. You will probably succeed with any of these options, provided you are proficient with the weapon type and play intelligently.

Options like Grenade Launchers, Sidearms, Glaives, and Scout Rifles might be harder to make work on Meltdown due to them simply being outclassed by better alternatives. If you want to play around Platform, Storage Bay, or Hallway, you’ll be outgunned by a Hand Cannon or Submachine Gun. If you look to play outside instead, you’ll probably be taken down by a High-Impact Pulse Rifle unless you play in the back of the map with a Scout Rifle, which isn’t advised.

We recommend loading in with an SMG, Hand Cannon, or Pulse Rifle for your primary and a Sniper or a Shotgun for your secondary.

Trials of Osiris: Tips & Tricks

Because it is the Dominion version of Trials of Osiris this weekend, you’ll want to gear your positioning and overall strategy depending on where the capture point is. Three potential capture zone spawn locations exist: Centre, Storage Bay, or Outside.

If the capture point is in Storage Bay, both teams will typically look to use the areas around Platform, Storage Bay, and Hallway to fight. Taking the high ground on Platform can be a significant advantage if you have a weapon like a Hand Cannon, Pulse Rifle, or Sniper Rifle. Alternatively, you can flank through Hallway to pressure the enemy from a different angle. This flank works best if you have an SMG or a Shotgun.

If the capture point is in Centre, teams have two options. You can set up inside, taking control of the space around Storage Bay and wait for the right moment to engage, or you can position outside, gaining a direct line of sight to the capture point and baiting your enemy to come out.

If you play outside, you can hold the area around the inverted L-shaped cover and peek-shoot your enemies on the left and right. This position gives your team a ton of space and puts pressure on the other team, as they will be stuck inside if they decide to play around Storage Bay or will be lacking cover if they also go outside. Of course, play carefully, as the enemy team may be looking to take the same space as you, forcing you into a fight earlier than you’d hoped.

If your team decides to play inside around Storage Bay, you can peek-shoot out of the main door to the outside and look to take a flank around the inverted L-shaped cover. Or, you can look to take a long flank through either Back Hall or Hallway to surprise your enemy and pressure them from multiple angles. However, make sure you coordinate with your team if you are doing this, as it is easy to be picked off alone, putting your team on the back foot.

If the capture point is Outside, there’s only one option: to play outside. Look to take the space around Connector and the lower area around the capture point if you spawn on Landing Pad side, or look to take the space around the cover near the inverted L-shaped structure.

You can go from inside as it may be safer, but it gives your enemy uncontested space and access to the capture point, meaning they can set up and zone you away from the capture point.

Overall, you’ll need to think on the fly to win. However, only take flanks or try unique strategies if you play in a team or can confidently win a 1v1 duel. Nothing is worse than a random teammate trying to be the hero and instantly dying. Do not be this player. Instead, play with your team and work together.
