Destiny 2 New Pacific Epitaph: God Rolls & How to get it

by | Apr 3, 2024

Wave frame grenade launchers are among the most popular special weapons in the game but have always been locked to the energy slot. That changed with Ghosts of the Deep and the release of New Pacific Epitaph, the first wave frame grenade launcher in the kinetic slot. But is that enough to make the New Pacific Epitaph worth farming?

How to get the New Pacific Epitaph

New Pacific Epitaph drops from the Ghosts of the Deep dungeon. More specifically, you’ll have a chance of getting this weapon in the first (Hive Ritual) and last (Simmumah Ur-Nokru) encounters. If you have already obtained the gun from one of these encounters, it also has a chance to drop from the two secret chests located inside the dungeon.

It’s also worth noting that Ghosts of the Deep is farmable. Even if you haven’t unlocked New Pacific Epitaph in Collections, it can drop on repeat runs—there’s no weekly lockout. If you’re eager to get your hands on a god roll, finding a group to farm the first or final encounter is your best bet. We cover the complete Ghosts of the Deep Loot Table here.

How good is the New Pacific Epitaph

New Pacific Epitaph is a wave frame grenade launcher, which is already enough to make it usable in PvE. It’s also the first of that frame to be featured in the kinetic slot, allowing you to pair it with trace rifles and glaives for the first time ever.

Looking at its perk pool, New Pacific Epitaph has some potent options. Its perk pool does lack an S-Tier ad clear perk like Chain Reaction or Chill Clip, but it doesn’t need it. Being in the kinetic slot is enough to set New Pacific Epitaph apart.

We haven’t talked about New Pacific Epitaph’s performance in PvP yet. Simply put, that’s because it isn’t that strong. That said, most players wouldn’t expect a wave frame to be geared toward The Crucible anyway, so it doesn’t take away from this weapon’s strengths too much.

If you’re choosing between this and Forbearance, the latter is definitely the better option overall. However, New Pacific Epitaph is more than capable if you need a good ad clear pick in the kinetic slot. Because of this, we’re putting New Pacific Epitaph in A-Tier.

New Pacific Epitaph PvE god roll

  • Barrel: Smart Drift Control
  • Magazine: High-Velocity Rounds
  • Perk 1: Unrelenting (also good: Demolitionist)
  • Perk 2: Kill Clip (also good: Adrenaline Junkie)

Luckily, there are tons more options for New Pacific Epitaph in PvE.

We have to go with Smart Drift Control and High-Velocity Rounds for the stat bonuses. In the first column, Unrelenting and Demolitionist are our favorites; Lead From Gold is also popular here and is an outstanding choice when running two special weapons. In the final column, we suggest either Kill Clip or Adrenaline Junkie. Collective Action and Pugilist aren’t bad choices here and can excel if you’re using this weapon for a build.

New Pacific Epitaph PvP god roll

  • Barrel: Smart Drift Control
  • Magazine: High-Velocity Rounds
  • Perk 1: Shot Swap (also good: Demolitionist)
  • Perk 2: Kill Clip (also good: Pugilist)

As mentioned before, New Pacific Epitaph doesn’t excel much in PvP. However, you can still make this a fun pick with the right roll.

We’ll start with Smart Drift Control in the first column and High-Velocity Rounds in the second. The main perks are rough here; Shot Swap and Demolitionist are the best perks in column three, but they aren’t anything too special. The final column is full of damage perks that don’t do too much for this weapon in particular. Regardless, Kill Clip and Collective Action are our favorites of the bunch.
