Wave frame grenade launchers have always been among the best special weapons Destiny 2 has to offer, even through countless nerfs and weapon archetype additions. With Ghosts of the Deep and the release of New Pacific Epitaph, the frame made its way into the kinetic slot, offering a host of new weapon loadout opportunities.
With Rite of the Nine, New Pacific Epitaph had its perks refreshed, bringing some much-needed life into the two-year-old weapon. Let’s take a look at how this new variant stacks up in today’s meta.

How good is the New Pacific Epitaph
Ever since the release of rocket-assisted sidearms, wave frame grenade launchers have had some stiff competition. Luckily, New Pacific Epitaph does its best to keep up with a host of rather potent perks.
The relatively recent nerf to Chain Reaction really took a toll on this frame in PvE, but the option is still usable and something we recommend trying. Beyond that, New Pacific Epitaph also boasts powerful perks like Demolitionist and even Redirection that can synergize with any setup you use them with.
Contrarily, New Pacific Epitaph—and wave frame grenade launchers as a whole—don’t do all too much in The Crucible. If you primarily find yourself playing PvP, skipping the farm for this weapon won’t leave you missing much. New Pacific Epitaph is A-Tier for PvE and C-Tier for PvP.

- Perk 1: Envious Arsenal, Unrelenting, Rimestealer, Lead from Gold, Demolitionist, Recycled Energy.

New Pacific Epitaph PvE god rolls
| PvE Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Quick Launch |
| Magazine | High-Velocity Rounds |
| Perk 1 | Demolitionist (also good: Lead from Gold) |
| Perk 2 | Redirection or Chain Reaction |
| Masterwork | Velocity or Handling |
| Origin Trait | Gravity Well |
Starting with Quick Launch, High-Velocity Rounds, and either a velocity or handling masterwork offers some pretty decent buffs in a PvE context.
From there, Demolitionist offers some solid utility, regardless of what build you’re running. Lead from Gold is worth mentioning for its ammo economy uses, although it isn’t nearly as popular now as it once was.
The final perk slot is a toss-up between Chain Reaction and Redirection. The former provides some sweet ad clear potential (even in its nerfed state), while the latter focuses more on bursting down the tougher enemies within large groups.
New Pacific Epitaph PvP god rolls
| PvP Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Quick Launch |
| Magazine | High-Velocity Rounds |
| Perk 1 | Demolitionist |
| Perk 2 | Kill Clip |
| Masterwork | Handling |
| Origin Trait | Gravity Well |
Put bluntly, New Pacific Epitaph is not worth using in The Crucible. However, if you’re trying to experiment with it for some reason, we’d recommend starting with Quick Launch, High-Velocity Rounds, and a handling masterwork.
From there, Demolitionist and Kill Clip are your best bets. Both don’t add all too much, but are objectively better than other options in both slots.
How to get the New Pacific Epitaph
New Pacific Epitaph’s newest version is available from the limited-time Rite of the Nine event. It drops from all three difficulties of Ghosts of the Deep when featured during the event and can also drop from the chest in the event’s hub (costs 250 Nonary Manifolds to open).
Also note that New Pacific Epitaph can be attuned for in the event hub, significantly increasing the chance of it dropping as opposed to other weapons in the pool. We cover the complete Ghosts of the Deep loot table here.
