Destiny 2 Greasy Luck: God Rolls and How to get it

by | Jun 1, 2023

Destiny’s newest weapon type, Glaives, have had a whirlwind of a first year. Released to lukewarm responses, swathes of changes have made these polearm guns a high-risk, high-reward weapon, and Greasy Luck exemplifies this.

Today, we’ll go through how to acquire this Solar Glaive from the Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon, where it sits in the meta, what are the god rolls, and if it is worth farming for.

How good is the Greasy Luck

Glaives haven’t always been a hot pick, and when they have been, it’s usually a result of a bug or a wildly overpowered artifact perk (Suppressing Glaive, anyone?). While Judgement of Kelgorath still reigns supreme for several reasons, Greasy Luck comes with a few perks that could prove rather useful in the right hands, such as Replenishing Aegis for higher shield uptime, and Redirection to help those projectiles deal more damage to larger targets. It also comes with Incandescent to help synergize with Solar builds.

In PvP, glaives are truly the “high risk, high reward” weapons Bungie intended them to be, but due to its frame, Greasy Luck is not one of them. The impact of the glaive projectile means that it takes more follow-up damage, but could be useful as a cleanup weapon if enemies are in close range. However, you’re better off with a shotgun or fusion rifle.

Best Greasy Luck Rolls for PvE and PvP

Greasy Luck Glaive Destiny 2

Greasy Luck God rolls, Destiny 2

Greasy Luck PvE god roll

  • Haft: Ballistic Tuning or Low-Impedance Windings
  • Magazine: Extended Magazine or Alloy Magazine
  • Perk 1: Replenishing Aegis or Disruption Break
  • Perk 2: Unstoppable Force or Close to Melee
  • Masterwork: Range or Shield Duration

Glaives are notorious for their low damage compared to other specials, so our god rolls will focus on ensuring we get as much benefit from the shield while also being able to tackle larger targets. For the haft, you can go with Ballistic Tuning for a +15 to range at the cost of shield duration, or Low-Impedance Windings for higher duration but less range. For the magazine, Extended or Alloy Mag are your go-to choices.

Column 3 has some less-than-stellar perks, but with Replenishing Aegis in there, it’s really a no-brainer. Returning ammo every other second you take damage means that you can keep the shield up as long as you can hit targets, and if you stack it with Unstoppable Force in Column 4, you can really go to town. Alternatively, it’s been found that Disruption Break improves glaive melee damage as well, so if stacked with Close to Melee, you could be looking at an 80% damage buff to just the swings themselves. Add that to the new Hunter exotic, Triton Vice, and you truly have a high-risk, high-reward setup.

  • Haft: Ballistic Tuning
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
  • Perk 1: Impulse Amplifier
  • Perk 2: Opening Shot or Collective Action

I’m going to be brutally honest here, glaives are not and will probably never be a meta PvP pick. While this author has had some fun in the past with these wacky polearms, their low projectile speed makes them less-effective fusion rifles in practice. So, to counter that, we’ll be running Ballistic Tuning for the haft and Accurized Rounds for the magazine to give us the highest range benefit, as range improves velocity for glaives.

In Column 3, Impulse Amplifier is a no-brainer. While Killing Wind might provide a direct range buff after a kill, Impulse Amplifier is active at all times and increases the velocity by a whopping 35%. If that wasn’t enough, adding on Opening Shot in column 4 means that you can reach 100 range without even needing a range masterwork! For all intents and purposes, this glaive might be the first one to be better in PvP than PvE, though those results are to be seen.

How to get the Greasy Luck

To get your hands on this spear gun turned polearm, you’ll need to take a dive into the newest dungeon: Ghosts of the Deep. Both the 2nd and 3rd encounters drop Greasy Luck as a reward, but as always, the final encounter drops anything from the previous two. So, if you are looking to farm it, it might be best to run the first boss only (2nd encounter). It’s also worth noting that the Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon is farmable. Even if you haven’t unlocked Greasy Luck in Collections, it can drop on repeat runs—there’s no weekly lockout.

Is Greasy Luck worth farming?

If you were able to craft a Judgment of Kelgorath, then Greasy Luck has very little to offer you. While it has some rather unique perk combinations, the acquisition method and lack of craftability makes it difficult to recommend farming for. Its smaller perk pool does mean that getting a god roll isn’t as unfavorable, but when the encounters it drops from are rather tanky bosses, you are better off trying to snag a good Judgment of Kelgorath. However, if you’re looking for something slightly different in a glaive, then Greasy Luck might just be for you.
