Destiny 2 King’s Fall Challenges this Week: Rotation & Guides

by | Sep 26, 2023

Some of the best and most unique weapons in Destiny 2 come from Raids, and through Master difficulty challenges, the rewards get even better. King’s Fall is no exception.

This guide covers all there is to know about the Master Challenges from the King’s Fall raid: their rotation, rewards, and, most importantly, how to complete them.

Destiny 2 King’s Fall Master rewards

With all the added difficulty that Master mode brings, especially with the challenges, it can be hard to understand why you would even step foot in it. But there are actually tons of different reasons to tackle Master Challenges, including cosmetic and gameplay-focused rewards.

Challenges in Normal mode

Completing Challenges in Normal mode will reward players with double loot for the encounter the challenge is active on

Challenges in Master mode

In Master mode, regardless of whether you complete the challenges, you will receive masterwork materials as a reward. Spiky high-stat armor also comes from Master mode, and the focused stat changes weekly.

If you complete the challenges, however, you’ll receive an Adept raid weapon too.

Standard King’s Fall weapons are already great. Yet, Adept variants have more perks per column, give even more stats when Masterworked, and can accept unique Adept mods. Additionally, if you want to go for the Raid title, you’ll need to complete all four challenges on Master difficulty.

So with all those incentives, how do you complete these challenges? Read on, as we have a guide for every single one, covering both loadouts and strategy.

 King's Fall raid

1. Totems Challenge: The Grass is Always Greener

One of the most straightforward challenges the game has to offer, The Grass is Always Greener, only requires a slight change in the encounter to work.

The challenge here is that you can’t collect the same brand type twice a row. The brand in the left room will always be the unraveler, while the one on the right will be the weaver. All you need to do is ensure that no one steals the same one twice.

In other words, you need to rotate to the other side of the room each time you deposit Deathsinger’s Power.

You can see why this challenge is so easy when phrased like that. Just do a regular rotation, but each time you go to the middle plate to deposit Deathsinger’s Power, kill the taken knight on the opposite side from where you came from. Continue by going to the opposite room to claim the brand of the player on the totem, and repeat. Instead of making a rotation loop of two circles, your team will almost be making a figure-8 with the rotation.

Loadouts

Loadouts here are the same as always: ensure your team has loadouts that will help with survivability and ad clear, and be sure to incorporate some Unstoppable rounds!

Once you get the new rotation down, this challenge isn’t too bad. However, the encounter can pose a significant threat on Master mode with all the enemies, so still, be attentive! Even just one death can cause this big rotation to fall apart.

Warpriest

2. Warpriest Challenge: Devious Theivery

While the requirements for this challenge can be relatively strict, Devious Theivery only changes one part of the encounter, making it easy to pick up on.

To complete this challenge, players on your team must steal the brand that allows you to DPS within about five seconds of picking the Brand Claimer buff up.

As you can imagine, loadouts won’t change here at all. Linear fusion rifles, rocket launchers, or whatever the best DPS option is at the time will still be best.

The strategy doesn’t change here, either. The challenge only affects the DPS phase of this fight. When doing DPS, position your team in the center of the room or a different place that is easily accessible from anywhere else. Then just make sure that whoever goes to kill the taken knight and obtain the brand is quick about getting back, and you should be good.

Warpriest Encounter

King’s Fall Warpriest Encounter, Destiny 2

If your team still struggles with this, consider having the player who currently has the brand run toward the brand claimer, allowing them to meet in the middle. While this almost guarantees you get the challenge done, damage on the Warpriest could become an issue. Find a balance that works for you, as every team’s struggle here will be different.

Devious Theivery is deceptively challenging. While its requirement is simple and easy in concept, it may be hard for some fireteams in practice. It may not be a challenge you farm every week, but defeating the Warpriest with this extra step is something that any fireteam can do with good practice.

Golgoroth Encounte

3. Golgoroth Challenge: Gaze Amaze

Gaze Amaze is the next challenge you’ll face, and, just like the Warpriest’s one, it only affects a small portion of the team.

The Golgoroth challenge requires you to swap the gaze while the current gaze holder is standing in the pool of reclaimed light (the DPS zone). Like the previous challenges in this raid, it seems easy initially but can pose some unforeseen complications if you don’t prepare.

Loadouts once again won’t change here. It is tempting to have the two gaze holders equip DPS weapons, but we wouldn’t recommend it. Instead, it’s a smarter option to run a machine gun.

We recommend this for one reason: the taken orbs that Golgoroth fires at the gaze holder. This is why we recommend a machine gun; if not taken care of properly, these orbs can block DPS and poison nearby teammates, potentially causing a wipe.

There isn’t a unique strategy here—just ensure the current gaze holder enters the pool of reclaimed light before you swap.

With enough damage and gaze holders who are on top of things, this encounter could turn out to be one that you farm consistently. However, everyone needs to do their job well to succeed here—especially in Master difficulty.

Daughters of Oryx

4. Daughters of Oryx Challenge: Under Construction

Under Construction is the challenge with the most strategies, but it isn’t too challenging with good communication.

Players cannot step on the same plate to build platforms more than once per phase for this challenge. It’s important to note that Torn Between Dimensions players do not count, only those stepping on plates to construct platforms.

Daughters of Oryx Encounter

King’s Fall Daughters of Oryx Encounter, Destiny 2

Loadouts, again, don’t change here. Make sure you have ad clear weapons to prevent unnecessary deaths and enough DPS to complete the encounter.

Strategies differ significantly here. The first and most obvious strategy is not to have one. Merely play the whole encounter by ear and have players call out whether they can step on specific plates. If your team struggles with communication, you can adopt some other methods instead.

The alternative method is also simple in concept. Begin by assigning one player to each plate, and have the last two people serve as roamers. Every time someone completes the jumping section of the Torn Between Dimensions realm, have everyone rotate to the next plate clockwise. If someone assigned a plate becomes torn, have a roamer who hasn’t stepped on that plate replace them.

Under Construction isn’t too bad when you find a strategy that works for you, but expect some extra chaos.

Oryx

5.  Oryx Challenge: Hands Off

The final challenge in the King’s Fall raid, Hands Off, is relatively bland and not mechanically focused but can be difficult if not done correctly.

To complete this challenge, no one can damage the same light-eater knight or ogre twice.

Like every challenge this raid offers, loadouts don’t need to change here. Have a good mix of primary ad clear weapons, major-killing special weapons, and DPS heavy weapons.

Similar to the Daughters challenge, the most prominent strategy here is to not have one. You can organize it any way you want (killing knights and ogres clockwise, etc.), but we find that adopting the “chaos method” and communicating well gets the job done.

One final thing to note is that this challenge requires you to not damage the same light-eater knight or ogre twice, not kill. If you’re using anything with damage over time (a grenade, Anarchy, Witherhoard, etc.), be careful where you place them as the ogres and knights spawn.

Your turn

King’s Fall is one of the longest raids available, which is why it has more Master Challenges than most other raids. Five in total: The Grass is Always Greener, Devious Theivery, Gaze Amaze, Under Construction, and Hands Off.

With the Oryx challenge done, that finishes off our guide for the Master King’s Fall challenges. All of them are simplistic at their core, but some small tricky things can mess you up. With good focus and communication, your fireteam should be able to complete all of these challenges relatively quickly (and hopefully get some sweet loot in the process!).

What your site has listed for the challenge in the weekly rotations table at the top is incorrect.

For totems the challenge is “The Grass Is Always Greener” not “Gaze Amaze”.
For warpriest the challenge is “Devious Thievery” not “Under Construction”.
    etc…
