Destiny 2 Revenant: Best Builds, Exotics & Fragments

by | Jan 18, 2024

Revenant is one of the four Hunter subclasses available in Destiny 2. As of Season of the Wish (S23), Revenant remains a strong subclass, especially for PvE.

This guide covers the best Revenant Hunter builds, Fragments, and Exotics that make the Revenant such a powerful subclass.

What is Revenant in Destiny 2?

Revenant is the name of the Stasis-based subclass available to Hunters in Destiny 2.

Best Revenant Fragments & Exotics

Stasis Hunter build

Revenant (Stasis)

  • Ranking: A Strong

With the release of Strand, Stasis subclasses have seen a general decline in usage, as their strengths pale in comparison. Suspend is simply stronger than Freezing, and Woven Mail is superior to Whisper of Rime’s overshielding capabilities. Plus, if you truly want to use Stasis, a Shadebinder Warlock can do everything a Revenant Hunter can do but better.

Many claim that Strand is basically an improved version of Stasis, which is unfortunate as the Stasis kit can be quite fun. Exotics like Renewal Grasps and Fr0st-EE5 can massively improve your Duskfield Grenade game, and Mask of Bakris can provide a solid damage buff while also being fun to use.

It is unfortunate that Stasis is where it is right now, but with a couple of changes, Revenant could be back on top soon enough.

Preferred Exotic: Renewal Grasps and Mask of Bakris.

Preferred Aspects and Fragments:

  • Aspects: Touch of Winter and Grim Harvest.
  • Fragments: Whisper of Chains, Whisper of Conduction, Whisper of Shards, Whisper of Torment, and Whisper of Rime.

Preferred Abilities and Stats:

  • Stats: 100 Mobility and 100 Resilience are highly recommended.
  • Abilities: Silence and Squall Super, Duskfield Grenades, Withering Blade melee, Gambler’s Dodge.

Revenant Hunter builds for PvE

Renewal Grasps Hunter Exotic featured Destiny 2

Grasps of Duskfield

Excels in: Grandmaster Content

Goal of the Build: Keep areas locked down and protect your Fireteam with infinite Duskfield Grenades.

Mandatory Gear: Renewal Grasps. Weapons with Headstone are recommended (Buried Bloodline and Devour can help with Grenade regen).

  • Aspects: Touch of Winter and Grim Harvest.
  • Fragments: Whisper of Torment, Whisper of Conduction, Whisper of Rime, Whisper of Chains, and Whisper of Shards.
  • Abilities: Gambler’s Dodge and Duskfield Grenades.
  • Stats Priority: Max Discipline 🡒 Max Resilience 🡒 Mobility.
  • Mods:
    • Helmet: Harmonic Siphon (or Void Siphon if you use Buried Bloodline), Heavy Ammo Finder, and Heavy Ammo Scout.
    • Arms: Impact Induction, Grenade Kickstart, and Harmonic Loader.
    • Chest: Resistance Mods based on your enemies.
    • Legs: Innervation, Recuperation, and a Weapon Surge Mod matching your Exotic weapon.
    • Class Item: Bomber, Reaper, and Powerful Attraction.

Gameplay Loop

The gameplay loop for the Renewal Grasp build can be altered and changed depending on your needs and playstyle. But, despite the versatility, the core ‘needs’ of the build remain the same.

Whisper of Shards is the engine that keeps the train going, granting Grenade energy upon shattering a Stasis crystal. Forming crystals is easy with Headstone weapons or through Touch of Winter Grenades. Making sure you destroy every Stasis crystal you see is paramount to keeping the Duskfield spam going.

Despite saying this, Whisper of Chains also provides damage resistance when near a Stasis crystal, so timing is essential. Try to destroy Stasis crystals when you have gotten good use out of them as they can not only provide damage resistance but also deal solid AoE damage.

Overall, the aim is to lock down large groups of enemies and make them deal less damage while spamming Duskfields. This will help protect you and your Fireteam, regardless of difficulty.

Stasis Hunter build

The Frostbringer

Excels in: Endgame (Dungeons, Raids, Legend content)

Goal of the Build: Utilise the Fr0st-EE5’s to maintain high ability uptime, freezing all enemies on the battlefield from safety.

Mandatory Gear: FR0ST-EE5 and Dragon’s Breath. High-damage weapons are recommended.

  • Aspects: Touch of Winter and Grim Harvest.
  • Fragments: Whisper of Conduction, Whisper of Rime, Whisper of Shards, Whisper of Durance, and Whisper of Chains.
  • Abilities: Gambler’s Dodge, Duskfield Grenade.
  • Stats Priority: Max Resilience 🡒 Discipline 🡒 Mobility.
  • Mods:
    • Helmet: Siphon Mod matching your weapon and Heavy Ammo Finder.
    • Arms: Impact Induction, Focusing Strike, and Grenade Kickstart.
    • Chest: Resistance Mods based on your enemies.
    • Legs: Recuperation, Innervation, and Invigoration.
    • Class Item: Powerful Attraction, Bomber, and Distribution.

Gameplay Loop

The overall goal of this build is to have a Duskfield Grenade available as often as possible. This is easy through our Grenade-regenerating Fragments, Exotic, and Mod choices.

Using your Grenade and Melee together is often unnecessary, as your Duskfield alone will freeze a target. Instead, save your melees for either an emergency where you do not have your Grenade, or use the cooldown to regenerate your Grenade through Impact Induction.

Using the Rapid Cooldown Exotic Trait on Frostees is also important. The perk will double your base Grenade and Melee ability regeneration rate, making them come back much faster.

Overall, utilize the Grenade-regenerating parts of your kit to ensure you always have a Duskfield ready for any group of adds.

Revenant Subclass in PvP (Stasis)

Revenant (Stasis)

  • Ranking: A Strong

Stasis Subclass Destiny 2 iconRevenant has basically one thing going for it, and that is the Touch of Winter Duskfield Grenades. Thankfully, these can be extremely potent in the right hands and can secure kills with ease. Revenant also has access to a number of exotics that synergize nicely with the subclass, like Frostees or Mask of Bakris.

Where Revenant can be let down, though, is in the Super and melee. Silence and Squall is one of the worst shutdown supers in the game, as it has a ridiculously long cast time compared to options like Blade Barrage. The melee is somewhat pathetic in terms of damage, but it does have the utility of slowing targets.

Revenant, overall is a solid pick, but it is outpaced by some of the most potent and oppressive subclasses that Hunter has to offer.

Preferred Aspects and Fragments:

  • Fragments: Whisper of Chains, Whisper of Durance, Whisper of Torment. The remaining 2 are up to you.

Preferred Abilities and Stats:

  • Stats: 100 Mobility and 100 Recovery are best.
  • Abilities: Duskfield Grenades, Withering Blade, Gambler’s Dodge.
