The most unique of the three Trials of the Nine weapons that have been reissued with Update 7.3.5, Relentless, has entered the Prophecy loot pool with a host of changes. Especially with its changed damage type from Kinetic to Strand, the high-impact pulse rifle has tons of potential in all areas of the game.

How to get the Relentless
Relentless is a reissued Trials of the Nine weapon that is now part of the loot pool for the free-to-play Prophecy dungeon. It drops from the Phalanx Echo encounter, in addition to the two hidden chests in the activity (assuming you’ve already unlocked it in Collections via the first encounter).

How good is Relentless going to be?
Beyond its unique synergies with the Strand subclasses, Relentless has missed the mark in most areas of the game.
For the Strand enthusiasts out there, Relentless’ ability to roll with Slice and Hatchling offers considerable buildcrafting opportunities. However, these opportunities aren’t specific to this weapon, and high-impact pulse rifles generally aren’t the strongest in PvE.
In The Crucible, Relentless is simply alright. With a couple of worthwhile perks here and there, you can’t necessarily go wrong with the weapon; on the whole, however, its competition simply outclasses it.

Relentless God Roll and Perk Pool
The Relentless pulse rifle can roll with the following perks:
- Perk 1: Keep Away, Outlaw, Rapid Hit, Slice, Snapshot Sights, Slideways
- Perk 2: Desperado, Frenzy, Hatchling, Headseeker, Moving Target, Zen Moment
- Origin Trait: Crossing Over
Relentless PvE God Roll
- Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling
- Magazine: Flared Magwell
- Perk 1: Rapid Hit (also good: Slice)
- Perk 2: Frenzy or Hatchling
- Masterwork: Range
While Relentless doesn’t compete with the most popular PvE primary weapons, it can still excel in some situations with the right combination of perks.
To maximize our distribution of stats, we’ll opt for Hammer-Forged Rifling, Flared Magwell, and a range masterwork. Rapid Hit and Frenzy are easily the best neutral perks if you’re just looking for a workhorse weapon; for those looking for Strand synergy instead, the combination of Slice and Hatchling is the clear winner.
Both of these setups are arguably worse than Relentless’ direct pulse rifle competition, but if you’re a huge fan of high-impact pulse rifles, this may not be the worst option.
Relentless PvP God Roll
- Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling
- Magazine: High-Caliber Rounds
- Perk 1: Keep Away
- Perk 2: Moving Target
- Masterwork: Range
For The Crucible, we’ll begin once more by seeking a high range stat with Hammer-Forged Rifling, High-Caliber Rounds, and a range masterwork. This (in addition to Keep Away’s range buff) allows the weapon to map even scout rifles.
In terms of the final column of perks, nothing really stands out. Moving Target is our personal pick, but realistically your choice here doesn’t matter as the range bonus you get from everything else allows Relentless to excel to its maximum potential.
