Destiny 2 Heir Apparent: Competitive Catalyst: How to get it

by | Mar 6, 2024

A Heavy weapon that once dominated the PvP Meta, Heir Apparent has seen many ups and downs. These days, Heir Apparent is quite average and neither dominates nor struggles. Still, it remains the staple of the Guardian Games event and you’ll want both the weapon and its catalyst, aka the Competitive Catalyst, before the event is over.

How to get the Heir Apparent Catalyst

The Heir Apparent catalyst can be acquired by completing the “Competitive Catalyst” quest. To do so, you’ll need to complete the following steps:

How to get the Heir Apparent Catalyst, Destiny 2

  1. Obtain the quest by depositing Medallions (while this step is RNG-bound, it drops quickly enough for most)
  2. Earn 50 points by obtaining Medallions (higher-tier Medallions are worth more points)
  3. Complete 3 Contender Cards
  4. Defeat combatants with Machine Guns to collect Competitive Spirit. Precision final blows grant bonus progress

Once you have obtained the catalyst, you’ll need 500 weapon kills to unlock it. This can be pretty bothersome, but using typical farming methods such as Shuro Chi or the opening section of Grasp of Avarice will speed things along. However, simply using the weapon in day-to-day content will get the catalyst done in a reasonable timeframe.

How to get Heir Apparent in Destiny 2

Heir Apparent can only be acquired when the Guardian Games event is active, which is only three weeks per year. With Guardian Games just starting this week, we recommend you get the Heir Apparent ASAP.

To get the Heir Apparent Exotic, you need to complete the “Top of Class” quest, which can be acquired from Eva Levante at the Tower. The Top of Class quest only has two steps:

  1. Earn a Medallion by completing activities with your class item equipped.
  2. Defeat targets with Machine Guns. Bonus progress granted for defeating Guardians.

How good is Heir Apparent right now?

Heir Apparent, a more casual weapon, is a fun option for players looking to mess around, but it isn’t remarkable. It features the following Exotic traits:

  • Heavy Slug Thrower: Spins up this weapon. This weapon can be fired only when fully spun up.
  • Armor of the Colossus: While at full health, spinning up this weapon protects you with an Arc shield.

The survivability is nice, but with the amount of healing we have in the game, the shield provided isn’t necessary anymore. We consider it B-Tier for both PvE and PvP.

You can check Season of the Wish exotics here. If you’re looking for top-tier exotics, you should definitely check out the excellent Thorn hand cannon, which was recently enhanced with a new catalyst.
