Snipers have always been a hot topic, especially in PvP. With them recently receiving buffs in PvE and nerfs in The Crucible, players may be curious how some popular Snipers, like the 1000 Yard Stare, now stack up against the competition.

This article will show you how to get the 1000 Yard Stare, how strong it is right now, and what the best perk combinations are.

How to get 1000 Yard Stare

To get your hands on the 1000 Yard Stare, you’ll have to step into the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon in the Cosmodrome. This Dungeon is pretty old at this point, meaning that it isn’t too hard to complete.

Like Eyasluna, 1000 Yard Stare can only be obtained from the final boss, meaning it is much more efficient to simply farm that encounter rather than repeatedly clear the entire dungeon, but if you decide to do a complete run-through, make sure to grab the secret chests as they can potentially drop solid loot.

The final boss isn’t too tricky to one phase and is generally a pretty quick encounter. Simply use good damage strategies, like dumping Rocket Launcher shots, combined with one or two damage Supers, a buff, and a debuff, and the boss should die quickly. You can find the full Grasp of Avarice loot table here.

How good is 1000 Yard Stare

1000 Yard Stare is a solid option inside PvP but relatively poor in PvE. Adaptive Frame Snipers aren’t used too much right now, with players preferring other archetypes such as Rapid-Fires like Supremacy or Aggressives like Succession. With an underwhelming perk pool,  PvE players can give 1000 Yard Stare a miss.

In PvP, 1000 Yard Stare comes alive and becomes one of the best options for Snipers in the Crucible. In PvP, 90RPM Adaptive Frame Snipers are the best, thanks to their decent body-shot damage, zoom, and rate of fire.

1000 Yard Stare, in particular, also has a brilliant perk pool, coming with almost all the favorable Sniper perks, with the only standout miss being a lack of Opening Shot. While other options like Mercurial Overreach or Cloudstrike will outclass this Sniper, it is still a solid option for any PvP player. All in all, we consider 1000 Yard Stare D Tier (Worst) for PvE and A Tier (Strong) for PvP.

1000 Yard Stare God Roll and Perk Pool

1000 Yard Stare can roll with the following perks:

  • Perk 1: Heating Up, Triple Tap, Firmly Planted, Quickdraw, No Distractions, and Perpetual Motion
  • Perk 2: Demolitionist, Dragonfly, Mulligan, Golden Tricorn, Snapshot Sights, and Moving Target

1000 Yard Stare PvE god roll

  • Barrel: Fluted Barrel
  • Magazine: Appended Mag
  • Perk 1: Triple Tap
  • Perk 2: Golden Tricorn or Demolitionist
  • Masterwork: Handling

Handling is vital on Special Weapon in PvE, so Fluted Barrel is the best pick for our barrel. Appended Mag allows for an additional shot from Triple Tap without reducing Reload Speed, making this the best option for the magazine.

Perk-wise, 1000 Yard Stare struggles. While Triple Tap is decent, the second perk column is woeful. The only way you could use this weapon is by activating Golden Tricorn for an additional 50% weapon damage boost for 10 seconds. However, you do have to get a kill with the weapon and a Void ability kill.

  • Barrel: Fluted Barrel
  • Battery: Accurized Rounds
  • Perk 1: Quickdraw or Perpetual Motion
  • Perk 2: Snapshot Sights
  • Masterwork: Handling

As with all Snipers in PvP, you will want high Handling, meaning Fluted Barrel is the best choice. Accurized Rounds boosts Range, which is helpful for hitting your shots.

Quickdraw increases the snappiness of the weapon and, combined with Snapshot Sights, makes 1000 Yard Stare feel lovely to use. Quickdraw and Snapshot Sights is a rare combo, only appearing on Beloved and 1000 Yard Stare as these perks are often in the same perk column.
