Hand Cannons received an absurd buff with Season of the Witch, resulting in many Guardians seeking powerful ones to add to their arsenal. Naturally, the one from Crota’s End, Word of Crota, has seen a swift rise to fame.
How do you obtain Word of Crota? What are its best rolls? And is it even worth farming for?

How to get Word of Crota
Given the weapon’s name alone, the origin of Word of Crota should be clear: the Crota’s End raid. This hand cannon specifically comes from the final encounter of the raid, where you face Crota himself.
Once you’ve unlocked Word of Crota in Collections, you can directly purchase it from the raid vendor for 20 Spoils of Conquest (making it relatively easy to farm for). You can find the entire loot table for Crota’s End here.

How good is Word of Crota
With a relatively diverse perk pool full of top-tier picks, Word of Crota is a promising addition to the game.
For those looking for a new weapon for their Void builds, Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds are clear winners. If you instead want a more simplistic combination, Demolitionist, Enlightened Action, Sword Logic, Rampage, and Precision Action are all outstanding.
The main disappointment most players face when looking at Word of Crota is its frame. Precision frame hand cannons, while slightly underrated in PvE, just don’t meet the mark compared to their slower rate of fire counterparts. Especially in The Crucible, running a 180 RPM hand cannon places you at an immediate disadvantage.
Regardless, Word of Crota is an enticing A-tier pick for PvE. However, it’s a B-tier for PvP.

- Perk 1: Subsistence, Rangefinder, Killing Wind, Dragonfly, Repulsor Brace, Enlightened Action, Demolitionist

Best Word of Crota Rolls for PvE and PvP
Word of Crota PvE god roll
- Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling
- Magazine: Flared Magwell (also good: Tactical Mag)
- Perk 1: Repulsor Brace (also good: Enlightened Action)
- Perk 2: Sword Logic (also good: Destabilizing Rounds)
- Masterwork: Range or Reload Speed
Word of Crota is definitely a more PvE-centric weapon, and this is especially apparent when viewing its perk pool.
In regards to the barrel, magazine, and masterwork, look for extra range and reload speed. For main perks, as we mentioned before, there are a couple of pathways you can take here. Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds are best for Void synergy, while Enlightened Action and Sword Logic are great for more neutral gameplay.
Assuming you can get past its intrinsically weak precision frame, Word of Crota can excel a fair amount in most PvE activities.
Word of Crota PvP god roll
- Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling (also good: Full Bore)
- Magazine: Accurized Rounds
- Perk 1: Killing Wind (also good: Rangefinder)
- Perk 2: Sword Logic (also good: Rampage)
- Masterwork: Range
Recommending Word of Crota for The Crucible is harder, especially because of its vast competition in adaptive frame hand cannons.
If you do plan on giving this weapon a shot in PvP, begin by searching for a range-boosting barrel, magazine, and masterwork. For column one, the main perks, you want Killing Wind or Rangefinder—whatever you prefer. As for perk two, Sword Logic and Rampage are extremely similar to one another and are your best bets.
Overall, 180RPM hand cannons aren’t viable in The Crucible, regardless of perks and stats. While Word of Crota may be one of the better choices in the precision frame archetype, a significant buff is required for it to see any mainstream use.
