Wave frame grenade launchers are some of the most consistently strong weapons in PvE, making the introduction of a new one always a big deal. Undercurrent is no exception—simply being a wave frame has garnered substantial amounts of interest from the community.
However, Undercurrent has enormous shoes to fill; new and more potent weapons are always being released into the game, creating a sandbox that is increasingly hard to survive in. So, how does Undercurrent stack up against fan favorites? What are its best rolls? And how do you even obtain it?

How good is Undercurrent
Competing directly with Forbearance (perhaps the best special weapon Destiny 2 has to offer), Undercurrent has to meet a high bar to reach mainstream popularity. And while it fails to do so, the weapon makes a solid attempt that could win some players over.
The main draw to Forbearance in PvE is Chain Reaction, a perk that pushes the grenade launcher’s ad-clear potential into exotic levels of potency. Sadly, Undercurrent doesn’t feature this trait. However, it does feature worthy substitutes, such as Voltshot and One for All. Plus, with perks like Ambitious Assassin, Demolitionist, and Stats for All in the third column, Undercurrent has its fair share of successes.
In PvP, wave frame grenade launchers simply aren’t as potent, especially considering that Undercurrent’s perks are clearly geared toward PvE alone.
Overall, Undercurrent is an A-Tier pick in PvE and a D-Tier pick in PvP.

Undercurrent PvE god roll
PvE Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Quick Launch |
Magazine | High-Velocity Rounds |
Perk 1 | Ambitious Assassin (also good: Demolitionist) |
Perk 2 | Voltshot (also good: One for All) |
Masterwork | Velocity |
While there’s no way that Undercurrent can top meta picks, attempting to get as close to there as possible is your best bet.
Quick Launch, High-Velocity Rounds, and a velocity masterwork are all no-brainers since velocity is the most important stat here. Ambitious Assassin is the clear choice for general gameplay in the first column, while Demolitionist and Lead from Gold are niche but potent in the right situation.
For the final column, Voltshot almost functions as a budget version of Chain Reaction. If you instead want something a bit more generic, One for All and Adrenaline Junkie work well.
Undercurrent PvP god roll
PvP Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Quick Launch |
Magazine | High-Velocity Rounds |
Perk 1 | Demolitionist (also good: Ambitious Assassin) |
Perk 2 | Adrenaline Junkie |
Masterwork | Velocity |
Wave frames aren’t built to excel in The Crucible, and Undercurrent is perhaps the leading example of that fact.
If you do happen to want to get a PvP roll of this weapon, you’ll once again want to start by building into velocity with Quick Launch, High-Velocity Rounds, and a velocity masterwork.
Borderlining in uselessness, Undercurrent’s main host of perks is so underwhelming that it doesn’t even really matter what you pick. Regardless, we chose the synergistic combination of Demolitionist and Adrenaline Junkie. While it’s hard to say that these will prove useful in moment-to-moment gameplay, your other options aren’t much better; in the end, we recommend farming for a different weapon entirely when it comes to PvP.
