How good is The Summoner
The Summoner could not have returned at a better time. The March 7th update has made auto rifles monsters in PvP, and the season’s focus on Solar and auto rifles in the artifact means it already has a lot going for it without looking at the perks. And when you do look at the perks, it’ll be hard not to jump into Trials.
For PvE, it rolls with both Solar 3.0 perks: Heal Clip and Incandescent. It can also snag Overflow and Subsistence for reduced reloads, as well as a whole host of damage perks. On the PvP side of things, Zen Moment + Tap the Trigger is a perfect consistency build, or you can swap Tap the Trigger out for one of the many aforementioned damage perks. And its stats are some of the best seen on Adaptive Autos.
All in all, we consider The Summoner A-tier pick for PvE and PvP.

The Summoner Perks and God Rolls
The Summoner auto rifle can roll with the following perks:
- Perk 1: Overflow, Perpetual Motion, Dynamic Sway Reduction, Subsistence, Zen Moment, Elemental Capacitor, Heal Clip
- Perk 2: Rampage, Golden Tricorn, Onslaught, Kill Clip, Tap the Trigger, Target Lock, Incandescent
- Origin Trait: Alacrity, One Quiet Moment, Wild Card
The Summoner PvE god rolls
- Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling
- Magazine: Extended Mag
- Perk 1: Heal Clip or Overflow
- Perk 2: Incandescent or Golden Tricorn
- Origin Trait: Wild Card
- Masterwork: Stability
Adaptive Autos, buy and large, have well-rounded base stats, but in end-game content, range, and mag size are paramount to success. While The Summoner has those well covered, it doesn’t hurt to push them further. To that end, Hammer-Forged Rifling and Extended Mag will benefit you the most, pushing the range out to almost 30 meters and giving you a sweet 50 in the mag. You could even swap to Arrowhead Break if you prefer less recoil over range.
For column 3, Heal Clip or Overflow are equally viable choices: Heal Clip now gives 120 HP on activation, and Overflow can bump your mag size up to 100 with Extended Mag. In column 4, there are so many good choices that it’s hard to pick, but Incandescent or Golden Tricorn both provide the best in slot benefits, one for the Solar synergy, the other for a huge 50% damage bonus.
The Summoner PvP god rolls
- Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling
- Magazine: Ricochet Rounds
- Perk 1: Zen Moment or Dynamic Sway Reduction
- Perk 2: Kill Clip or Onslaught
- Origin Trait: Alacrity
- Masterwork: Range
While Precision Frame autos are the hot stuff right now, The Summoner is able to contest with the best thanks to exceptional stats that we are going to bump up as far as we can take them. Hammer-Forged Rifling and Ricochet Rounds, along with a Range Masterwork, will bump the damage range to 30 meters! You could also opt for Arrowhead Break over Hammer-Forged and pair it with Counterbalance Stock for a 100 recoil direction.
Perk 1 is going to be either Zen Moment or Dynamic Sway Reduction solely based on preference. In my personal experience, Zen Moment makes this thing more of a laser beam than it already is, but DSR could be good if you want to bump up stability. Perk 2 has a lot of solid PvP options, so while Kill Clip or Onslaught are the best general ones, all the others have a place in someone’s playstyle.
How to get The Summoner
The Summoner can be earned from completing matches in the Trials of Osiris, while the Adept version can be earned only when it is the featured weapon for the weekend after going flawless. Once you have earned a drop, you can focus for more at Saint-14, with the Adept focusing requiring a seven-win, flawless card.
If you are looking to farm, the Passage of Wealth will help increase your Trials rep gains for more engrams and wins after reaching flawless have a chance to drop an Adept version, provided you have not used the card to focus. We cover the Trials weapon this week here.
