Updated with the Renegades DLC, Cataphract GL3 is a Strand Element art Strand Grenade Launcher that can be farmed by participating in the Trials of Osiris. Cataphract GL3 is a serviceable weapon that may feature some great perks, but it will be outclassed by the top picks. This guide covers its place in the current Meta, top rolls for PvE and PvP, and how to farm it.

How good is the Cataphract GL3?

Cataphract GL3 is a Strand Adaptive Heavy Grenade Launcher. While Grenade Launchers aren’t top tier, Cataphract does come with some strong perks, such as Envious Assassin and Bait and Switch. However, with its Adaptive frame, it will be weaker than some of the best PvE options like VS Chill Inhibitor, or its Strand competition: The Ever-Present. While this doesn’t make it weak, it does mean there are better options.

In PvP, Cataphract has Quickdraw and Impulse Amplifier in the first column, which are great perks for PvP, granting very high handling or projectile speed, respectively. Grenade Launchers are also quite popular in PvP, making Cataphract quite an appealing option should you wish to go for a Grenade Launcher. Cataphract GL3 is A-Tier for PvE and A-Tier for PvP.

Cataphract GL3 PvE god roll

PvE God Roll
Barrel Quick Launch
Magazine Spike Grenades
Perk 1 Envious Arsenal (also good: Auto-Loading Holster)
Perk 2 Bait and Switch
Masterwork Handling
Origin Trait One Quiet Moment

For our Barrel, we suggest Quick Launch to give it a boost to Velocity and Handling. To further our Handling, we are going for a Handling masterwork. Finally, for our Magazine, we suggest Spike Grenades for slightly more damage.

For perk 1, Envious Arsenal is the winner as it is an excellent damage perk to optimise your DPS, however, Auto-Loading Holster is a solid alternative. In the second perk column, Bait and Switch is realistically the only viable option, and is by far the best available option.

Cataphract GL3 PvP god roll

PvP God Roll
Barrel Quick Launch
Magazine High-Velocity Rounds
Perk 1 Impulse Amplifier or Quickdraw
Perk 2 Explosive Light
Masterwork Handling or Velocity
Origin Trait Alacrity

Quick Launch and High-Velocity Rounds are the picks for our Barrel and Magazine as they boost the Velocity and Handling. To add to this, a Handling or Velocity masterwork is ideal.

For perk, we suggest Impulse Amplifier or Quickdraw in order to boost the Velocity or Handling even further, making the GL easier to use. For perk 2, we recommend Explosive Light as it can increase the damage and AoE of the shots.

Which Origin Trait would you choose for PVE? One Quiet Moment isn’t on the new roll. Thanks!
