How to get Matador 64
To obtain this shotgun, you’ll need to venture into the Grasp of Avarice dungeon, which is available for those who purchased the 30th Anniversary Pack. Once inside the dungeon, head to the first boss, and off you go. As the only weapon, and one of four items total, to drop from this encounter, it won’t be long until you find a roll you are satisfied with. It is also obtainable from the final boss, but that has a 1-in-9 chance over the 1-in-4. You can find the full Grasp of Avarice loot table here.
However, it is best to wait until Grasp is the weekly featured dungeon, as that enables repeated drops from the same encounter.

How good is Matador 64
Thanks to the recent reticle changes for shotguns, Matador 64 is now a powerhouse in the Crucible, mainly thanks to its archetype. Precision Frame shotguns fire pellets in an oval shape, which is more or less the entire outline of a guardian at the right range. This makes them extremely desirable for PvP.
In PvE, Matador can be a rather effective choice in the right situations. While still outclassed by slug frames, pellet shotguns did receive a rather substantial buff a few seasons back. Plus, pellet shotguns with One-Two Punch remain a must-have for melee builds.
Matador 64 can be easily considered S Tier for PvP, thanks to its archetype, perk selection, and top-tier stats.

Matador 64 God Roll and Perk Pool
The Matador 64 shotgun can roll with the following perks:
- Perk 1: Threat Detector, Perpetual Motion, Pulse Monitor, Tunnel Vision, Lead from Gold, Full Auto Trigger System
- Perk 2: Opening Shot, One-Two Punch, Killing Wind, Swashbuckler, Golden Tricorn, Harmony
Matador 64 PvP god roll
- Barrel: Smoothbore or Smallbore
- Magazine: Accurized Rounds or Light Mag
- Perk 1: Perpetual Motion or Threat Detector
- Perk 2: Opening Shot or Killing Wind
- Masterwork: Range
Thanks to its Precision frame, Matador 64 has seen a large spike in usage since the changes made to shotgun hip-fire reticles. Boasting rather impressive base stats for its frame, it can be hard to choose what to boost. But, as with all shotguns, Range is your top priority. To that end, Smoothbore or Smallbore are your barrel choices. While Smoothbore was previously a no-go, the reticle changes mean pellet spread is consistent, so the downside is irrelevant now. For your magazine, Accurized Rounds or Light Mag are the only two to boost range, so either one will suffice.
Column 3 is an easy choice between Perpetual Motion or Threat Detector. While lacking a range boost, bumping handling will make you more agile in gunfights or when you need to make a push, and both will do just that. And for column 4, it’s a toss-up between Opening Shot and Killing Wind, but most will go with Opening Shot’s ease of use. Thanks to Opening Shot’s buff, a Smallbore and Light Mag roll will have the same range stat as a Smoothbore and Accurized Rounds roll, and a range masterwork will bump that stat to 100!
Matador 64 PvE god roll
- Barrel: Smoothbore or Smallbore
- Battery: Assault Mag (also good: Tactical Mag)
- Perk 1: Lead from Gold or Threat Detector
- Perk 2: Swashbuckler or Golden Tricorn (also good: One-Two Punch)
- Masterwork: Reload Speed
While pellet shotguns typically aren’t the most meta weapon for PvE, Matador can roll with the highly sought-after Assault Mag, which bumps up the fire rate by 5, which raises DPS by 10%. Alternatively, Tactical Mag is a viable second choice for magazines as it raises both magazine size and reload speed.
In Column 3, Lead from Gold or Threat Detector are the only two you should look for. Threat Detector will help engage those close-up targets, while Lead from Gold eases the ammo economy. Column 4 has three good damage-boosting perks: Golden Tricorn, Swashbuckler, and Harmony. And, if you are looking to make a melee build, One-Two Punch also rolls in this column. While nerfed heavily, it still is a staple of most melee DPS builds.
