Destiny 2 Hero of Ages: God Rolls and How to get it

by | Feb 26, 2024

Swords are a fan-favourite weapon type and have actually become the meta pick on particular bosses, like Crota. Of course, this means players are looking for the best Swords.

In this article, we will cover how to obtain Hero of Ages, its performance in the meta, and the best perk combinations possible for both PvE and PvP.

How to get Hero of Ages

Hero of Ages is available in the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon in the Cosmodrome. This Dungeon isn’t too tricky and can be cleared quickly with any decent fireteam.

The Hero of Ages isn’t craftable and you’ll need to get lucky to obtain the god roll, but thankfully, it is available from every encounter. If you only want to farm the Hero of Ages, it might be better to farm the Ogre encounter as the loot pool is smaller, but the final boss will be faster to complete, so the choice is yours.

Both bosses are pretty simple to defeat and can be killed with meta DPS strategies like dumping Rocket Launcher shots with appropriate Supers, a buff, and a debuff. Using all of these will make short work of these bosses. You can find the full Grasp of Avarice loot table here.

How good is Hero of Ages

Hero of Ages is, unfortunately, not very good. Vortex Frames aren’t strong right now and are outclassed by options like Bequest, a strong Adaptive Sword. Even if you are set on using a Vortex Frame Sword, Falling Guillotine is a better option than Hero of Ages.

In PvP, any sword that doesn’t come with Eager Edge is essentially DOA (dead on arrival), as there is practically no use case for a regular sword inside of PvP when options like Grenade Launchers, Rocket Launchers, or even Machine Guns are much more consistent.

Hero of Ages also comes with weak perks. All in all, we consider Hero of Ages D Tier (Worst) for PvE and B Tier (Average) for PvP.

Hero of Ages God Roll and Perk Pool

The Hero of Ages Sword can roll with the following perks:

  • Perk 1: Relentless Strikes, Unrelenting, Duelist’s Trance, Tireless Blade, and Demolitionist
  • Perk 2: One For All, En Garde, Assassin’s Blade, and Chain Reaction

Hero of Ages PvE god roll

  • Blade: Honed Edge
  • Guard: Swordmaster’s Guard
  • Perk 1: Tireless Blade
  • Perk 2: En Garde
  • Masterwork: Impact

Having as much Impact without affecting the maximum ammo capacity too much is best, meaning that Honed Edge is the best balance. Swordmaster’s Guard is also a balanced option for blocking.

The perks on this weapon are simply so poor for DPS that it isn’t worth using options like Relentless Strikes, and players should instead use this as a quick burst weapon to kill major enemies or quickly swap to in a DPS loadout in specific damage phases. This makes Tireless Blade and En Garde the obvious picks.

Hero of Ages PvP god roll

  • Blade: Hungry Edge
  • Guard: Swordmaster’s Guard
  • Perk 1: Tireless Blade
  • Perk 2: Assassin’s Blade
  • Masterwork: Impact

The blade and guard do not matter too much at all in PvP as they have very little impact, but more ammo capacity is nice to have, and a nice, balanced distribution with your guard is solid, too.

Tireless Blade allows ammo to be refunded, potentially granting an additional kill in certain situations, and Assassin’s Blade provides a nice move speed bonus after securing a kill, increasing the survivability of the wielder as you can make it back to safety.
