Destiny 2 Insidious: God Rolls and How to get it

by | Feb 18, 2024

Pulse Rifles are generally weak in Destiny 2 right now; they fire slowly, have low damage, and typically feel clunky. While Insidious doesn’t necessarily break this trend, it does feel better than most of its competition, making it a sought-after weapon for Pulse Rifle aficionados.

Today, we cover how to obtain Vow’s Insidious, its best perk combinations, and how good it is in the current meta.

How to get Insidious

To get your hands on Insidious, you must step into the Vow of the Disciple Raid in Savathun’s Throne World. While you can run the entire Raid repeatedly, farming a single encounter with a dedicated group is much more efficient.

Completing the entire Raid does come with benefits, however, as players can use Spoils of Conquest to purchase a red-border version of Insidious once a week. Players will have to farm either the second or final encounter, as these are the only fights that drop Insidious. Either encounter works; a more experienced group will find Caretaker much faster, but some may prefer Rhulk. We cover the entire Vow of the Disciple loot table here.

How good is Insidious

As far as Pulse Rifles go, Insidious is a strong option. It has a favorable weapon archetype, decent stats, and a solid perk pool. However, other weapon types like Hand Cannons or SMGs will serve you much better overall.

Insidious is mainly used in PvE, but players can use it in PvP, too, and it doesn’t have much competition whatsoever, as there are only five unique Aggressive Frame Pulse Rifles in the game. While these aren’t the only options Insidious has to contend with, this Vow of the Disciple Pulse Rifle is by far the best Aggressive option. There aren’t too many Arc Pulse Rifles either, with the best alternatives being Oversoul Edict or Phyllotactic Spiral.

Insidious is a brilliant weapon compared to other Pulse Rifles, but it feels weaker than other weapon types. Overall, Insidious is A-Tier for PvE and B-Tier for PvP.

Insidious Perks and God Rolls

  • Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling
  • Magazine: Flared Magwell
  • Perk 1: Dragonfly or Rapid Hit
  • Perk 2: One for All or Rampage
  • Masterwork: Reload Speed

Insidious already has some decent stats, but Corkscrew Rifling and Flared Magwell help the Handling and Reload Speed, two of the lower stats on this weapon.

Dragonfly provides some AoE (area of effect) damage, which Pulse Rifles often struggle with. AoE damage is essential for efficient add-clear, making Dragonfly the main pick, but Rapid Hit is acceptable. One for All is the most accessible damage perk on Insidious, but Rampage can also work well if you prefer.

  • Barrel: Arrowhead Break
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
  • Perk 1: Rapid Hit
  • Perk 2: Rampage
  • Masterwork: Range

Arrowhead Break is a big help in this weapon, boosting the recoil direction to 100. This means the burst will be perfectly upward, making managing recoil much easier. On top of this, Accurized Rounds provide a nice boost to Range, pushing this Pulse Rifle to contest even further distances.

Rapid Hit is good for general quality of life as it provides an additional 18 Stability upon hitting all four precision hits from a burst, making your next burst much more manageable to land, letting you hit that 0.73s time-to-kill. Rampage is also excellent as it makes the gun more forgiving, allowing you to kill in seven bullets rather than eight on any player six Resilience or higher.
