Destiny 2 Different Times: God Rolls and How to get it

by | Jun 21, 2023

Our first-ever Strand pulse rifle, Different Times, is making waves in the methane sea. Craftable, with excellent perk combos, and good-looking, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be actively chasing this weapon, no matter what or how you play.

Today, we venture down to see how to obtain it, where it sits in the meta, and cover the juicy god rolls that will make you forget its Reckoning counterpart (sorry, Outlast).

How good is Different Times

For those that don’t know: pulse rifles are hot. They got a substantial buff last season in PvE, which has turned them from underpowered to some of the top picks, and that’s outside of the exotics like Outbreak or Revision Zero. Not only that, but given that this is a Strand weapon, it can take advantage of any perk/fragment that gives them Unraveling rounds, turning it into an anti-Barrier weapon on command, and with perks like Hatchling and Golden Tricorn, it can put in some serious work.

In PvP, Pulses continue to rock the meta, and given that this is a rapid-fire, it means more of an aggressive playstyle compared to other pulse frames, which can be a boon in a world where SMGs continue to be the #1 pick week after week. However, given that the stats on this are, across the board, worse than its in-slot competitors, this is something to use if the alternatives aren’t available.

Best Different Times Rolls for PvE and PvP

Different Times PvE god roll

  • Barrel: Smallbore
  • Magazine: Flared Magwell or Appended Mag
  • Perk 1: Outlaw or Subsistence
  • Perk 2: Hatchling or Multikill Clip
  • Masterwork: Stability or Reload

Pulse rifles are doing numbers in PvE these days, and Different Times shows this off. While the Origin Trait is more PvP oriented, the perks are what we are really looking at. But before we get there, we need to bring up some of the underperforming stats. We’ll go with Smallbore for a small buff to range and stability, and Flared Magwell for faster reloads and another stability buff. You can opt for Appended Mag to give you two more bursts, which lets you run a different weapon mod.

Column 3 has a slightly underwhelming pool of usable perks, but the two you want are Subsistence or Outlaw. Free ammo or a quick reload is the peanut butter to the jelly that is the damage perk, and boy does Different Time have those in spades. I won’t list them all, but Golden Tricorn is a must-have if using this on a Strand subclass, and Multikill Clip or Collective Action if going more subclass agnostic. It also rolls with the coveted Hatchling perk, which pairs nicely with Outlaw, as both require precision kills to activate. Honestly, it’s hard choosing which Column 4 perk is best!

Different Times PvP god roll

  • Barrel: Arrowhead Break
  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds
  • Perk 1: Heating Up or Moving Target
  • Perk 2: Headseeker or Multikill Clip
  • Masterwork: Stability or Reload

In PvP, pulse rifles continue to stand tall in the meta. While the main focus has shifted to SMGs, pulses still hold their own, and Different Times shows no signs of that stopping. Recoil, Range, and Stability are the three stats most want to buff on these guns, so it’s great that Arrowhead and Ricochet Rounds roll here. The increase to all three stats will keep the gun feeling buttery smooth as you pick off another player. A Range or Stability MW is your go-to here, depending on if you want more consistency or slightly better engagement distance.

For our perks in Column 3, I recommend Moving Target or Heating Up. While we, unfortunately, don’t have the illustrious Rapid-Hit, Heating Up can take its place for the stability bump, as well as improve our recoil. Moving Target, on the other hand, will help you against the more squirrelly players. Column 4’s pick is a no-brainer for most: Headseeker. A rework to this perk has made it a must-have for pulses, and given the frame, it will be a boon in any gunfight. But if more damage is your thing, Multikill Clip is here to provide it.

How to get Different Times this Season

Different Times drops from Season of the Deep activities: Salvage and Deep Dives. To access these, you’ll need to complete the intro quest for the season and then access them through the H.E.L.M. Using Salvage or Deep Dive keys at the end of the respective activity can boost your rewards, and I recommended grabbing two of your buddies and attempting higher level Deep Dives. Through challenges completed within the activity, you can get better rewards, and if done to the max, you can earn several weapons, including red border ones!

You can also use Deep Weapon Focusing on your Deep Engrams at the Sonar Station to guarantee the weapon you want. To focus a Deep Engram, you’ll need the following:

  • 2 Deep Engram (4 for a specific weapon)
  • 3,000 Glimmer

Different Times: Is it worth farming?

Rapacious Appetite is an excellent Pulse rifle, and, more importantly, the only Strand Pulse rifle in the entire game. That is reason enough to chase it. Interested in more top-tier Season of the Deep weapons? You should definitely check out The Navigator Trace rifle or Rapacious Appetite. Both are new weapons that are getting a lot of traction this season.
