Destiny 2 Goldtusk: God Rolls and How to get it

by | Sep 25, 2023

Goldtusk, the Hunter-specific sword, returned to us a few seasons ago, but after becoming craftable and a massive sword overhaul, it’s time to talk about this long-awaited return. Today, we’ll see how to get Goldtusk, how it sits in the meta, and what its God rolls are for PvE and PvP.

How to get Goldtusk this Season

As mentioned before, Goldtusk is a Hunter-specific sword, meaning only the Hunter class can see it drop and use it. To get it to drop, simply play any activity from Season of Defiance (Season 20) and wait for a Defiant Engram to drop. Once you have one, you can go to the H.E.L.M. and focus into the “Recovered Leviathan Weapons” pool to acquire one. Do note that there are other weapons in this pool, so it might take a second to drop, but you will see it eventually. And that’s all there is to getting the Goldtusk. But, just how good is it?

How good is Goldtusk

Season of the Witch (Season 22) launched with a major sword rework, with heavy attacks no longer requiring full sword charge to activate and the charge rate being massively increased. On top of this, guarding with a sword no longer drains energy, and provides at least 82% damage reduction. As a result, pretty much any sword is a force to be reckoned with, and Goldtusk is no exception. While it might be class-specific and not the coveted Vortex frame, the simple truth is that it has some perk combinations and an Origin Trait that heavily aids the charge time. So it might not sit at the top, but it’s not too far behind.

Overall, we consider it B Tier for PvP and A Tier for PvE.

Best Goldtusk Rolls for PvE and PvP

Goldtusk PvE god roll

  • Blade: Jagged Edge or Tempered Edge
  • Guard: Swordmaster’s Guard
  • Perk 1: Relentless Strikes or Tireless Blade
  • Perk 2: Whirlwind Blade or Chain Reaction
  • Masterwork: Impact

As previously stated, swords received a massive overhaul in Season 22, and Goldtusk’s god roll aims to take full advantage of this. For the Blade, the go-to option for this sword (and really any sword) is Jagged Edge, providing a +4 to the Impact stat, while lowering the overall ammo on the sword. However, if more ammo is wanted, Tempered Edge still provides a slight benefit to Impact while keeping the ammo buffed a bit too. Funny enough, Goldtusk only has one Guard option, Swordmaster’s Guard, which is considered one of the best post-buffs.

For Columns 3 and 4 perks, there’s not a lot to choose from, which is good for a sword such as this. Since Swords are still used for boss damage, we’ll be going for the workhorse roll for any sword: Relentless Strikes and Whirlwind Blade. This combo is what made Fallen Guillotine so powerful, and now it’s craftable on Goldtusk. While it might not have the same efficacy here due to the different frame, it’s still a powerful roll at the end of the day. Of course, other perks exist here, such as Tireless Blade and Chain Reaction for a hack-n-slash fantasy, but they won’t have the same punch as Relentless and Whirlwind.

Goldtusk PvP god roll

  • Blade: Jagged Edge or Tempered Edge
  • Guard: Swordmaster’s Guard
  • Perk 1: Valiant Charge
  • Perk 2: Counterattack
  • Masterwork: Impact

Let’s be honest, the only swords used in PvP are The Other Half or Half-Truths for the simple fact they can roll with Eager Edge. This allows players to clear large gaps in a fraction of the time it would take to sprint there, or just lunge right into an enemy player for the kill. While Goldtusk lacks this, we will do our best to make it a diet version of these swords. As before, Jagged Edge or Tempered Edge for your Blade choices, and Swordmaster’s Guard for the Guard.

In Column 3, Goldtusk can roll with Valiant Charge, the poor man’s version of Eager Edge. While it requires damage taken in order to activate, the lunge distance increase is the same, a whopping 80%! Pairing this with something like Counter Attack means you have an increased lunge range and a 50% damage boost, letting you clean cleave through any guardian.

Goldtusk: Is it worth farming?

While this sword holds a great deal of nostalgia for some, the reality is that, as a class-specific weapon, it is difficult to recommend farming for it, especially if you don’t play Hunter a great deal. On top of that, better swords exist out there, both class-specific and agnostic, meaning spending your time getting this is only really worth it if you are making a build specifically for it, or just want to have all craftable weapons unlocked. Overall, get it if you want it, but don’t feel like you’re missing out for not.
