by | Dec 3, 2023

A slew of new weapons dropped with the new Season of the Wish dungeon: Warlord’s Ruin. One of those weapons has established itself as only the second strand Sword weapon so far in Destiny 2: Dragoncult Sickle.

Today, we’ll tell you how to get your hands on this unique casting sword, what its best rolls are, and whether it is even worth farming for. Let’s head back into the Dark Age in Warlord’s Ruin.

How to get Dragoncult Sickle

Dragoncult Sickle was introduced with Season of the Wish and is exclusively available as a drop in the new Warlord’s Ruin dungeon. The sword is a potential drop after the first encounter against Rathil, First broken Knight of Fikrul, and the final encounter of the activity against Hefnd’s Vengeance, Blighted Chimera.

How good is Dragoncult Sickle

Similar to its forebears, such as Temptation’s Hook, Dragoncult Sickle allows for both melee and short-range damage as it has the ability to cast projectiles with each swing of the sword. This is the first strand-type sword to carry this weapon frame. In the current sandbox, caster frame swords are often disregarded, but that doesn’t mean Bungie couldn’t buff them in the future.

Its origin trait, Sundering, is unlikely to be practical in your typical build. This origin trait grants bonus reload speed and charge rate when you destroy vehicles and constructs (think barricades or Stasis crystals).

The perk pool on offer here is fairly typical for this weapon archetype. Keep an eye out for a roll with the new perk, Slice. With this perk, casting your class ability allows the weapon to sever targets you hit with the weapon, reducing their damage output. Despite some unique aspects, Dragoncult Sickle is unlikely to move the needle for the casting frame weapon type in the current sandbox.

Dragoncult Sickle is a B-tier weapon in PvE, as it is held back by casting frames’ standing in the current sandbox. In PvP, it can be considered a C-tier weapon, as you’re likely to want something with a little more range in the heavy slot.

Dragoncult Sickle Perks and God Rolls

The Dragoncult Sickle can roll with the following perks:

  • Perk 1: Tireless Blade, Assassin’s Blade, Demolitionist, Unrelenting, Duelist’s Trance, Slice
  • Perk 2: Whirlwind Blade, Surrounded, Chain Reaction, Golden Tricorn, Hatchling, Attrition Orbs

Dragoncult Sickle PvE god roll

  • Blade: Honed Edge
  • Guard: Swordmaster’s Guard
  • Perk 1: Tireless Blade
  • Perk 2: Surrounded
  • Masterwork: Impact

For our blade, you will want Honed Edge to maximize damage output to major enemies and bosses. For our guard, we’ll want to pick Swordmaster’s Guard to sacrifice defense for increased damage. For our perks, we want Tireless Blade and Surrounded in perk columns 1 and 2, respectively. Tireless Blade will restore ammo upon every other sword kill, and Surrounded will maximize our damage output when enemies are in close proximity.

For now, there are better heavy weapon options for boss damage, but you may find this roll effective in intense crowd-control moments.

Dragoncult Sickle PvP god roll

  • Blade: Honed Edge
  • Guard: Burst Guard
  • Perk 1: Tireless Blade
  • Perk 2: En Garde
  • Masterwork: Impact

In PvP, Dragoncult Sickle is unlikely to be your first choice, but being able to cast a short-range projectile may be useful when coming upon opposing guardians in close quarters. For that reason, we will want En Garde in perk column 2 in order to ensure quickly swapping to this weapon maximizes quick attack damage against our opponent.

Dragoncult Sickle: Is it worth farming?

Unless you do not already have great rolls of Sola’s Scar or Temptation’s Hook, this weapon is not necessarily worth farming. Other weapons available in the Warlord’s Ruin dungeon will likely grab your attention away from this casting frame sword, including the shiny new exotic sidearm Buried Bloodline.
