The long-awaited return of Crota’s End is here, and so are its infamous raid weapons from Destiny 1. Today, we’ll review the Strand shotgun, Swordbreaker. How good it is? Are its god rolls worth chasing?

How to get Swordbreaker
Swordbreaker is one of many guns you can get from the Crota’s End reprised raid that is free for all players. You will need a team of six players to complete raid encounters and get your hands on some of this sweet loot.
This weapon is also craftable like any other Crota’s End weapon. This means you have a chance of getting a red border weapon after opening a chest and after you collect 5 patterns you can head to the Enclave to shape it. You can find the entire loot table for Crota’s End here.
How good is Swordbreaker
This shotgun is an 80 RPM Lightweight Frame shotgun, and lightweights are not something players use in PvP that much. They are just not reliable enough when you are going for a one-shot kill or a melee + shotgun combo.
Shotguns can be decent in PvE. But again, they’re not everybody’s choice. Spending your special weapon on a shotgun feels way more diminishing when you can use a wave-frame grenade launcher or a sniper rifle.
Still, you can make this gun work. To get a good understanding of how it feels, you can check out Wastelander M5 from Dares of Eternity or the Seventh Seraph CQC-12 if you have them. Both are 80 RPM shotguns with some variety in perks.
Overall, we consider Swordbreaker B-tier for PvE and PvP.

Swordbreaker Perks and God Rolls
The Swordbreaker Lightweight Strand Shotgun can roll with the following perks:
- Perk 1: Puglist, Subsistence, Elemental Capacitor, Fragile Focus, Threat Detector, Slideshot, Demolitionist
- Perk 2: Surrounded, Golden Tricorn, Sword Logic, Opening Shot, Barrel Constrictor, Hatchling
- Origin Trait: Cursed Thrall
Swordbreaker PvE god roll
- Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling
- Magazine: Tactical Mag
- Perk 1: Pugilist
- Perk 2: One-Two Punch
- Masterwork: Handling or Reload Speed
To our surprise, Swordbreaker has quite a decent variety of perks. But regardless of your perks, we feel like Corkscrew Rifling and Tactical Mag will work well on any sort of roll for extra reload speed and a minor bump in stats.
Swordbreaker can roll a very melee-heavy perk combination that is Pugilist and One-Two Punch. These perks will give you melee energy and increase your melee damage. Someone like Arc Hunters with Combination Blow or Strand Titans can probably have a lot of fun with this roll.
But you don’t have to go for a melee roll if you don’t want to, as this weapon is very flexible. You can roll Demolitionist for a more grenade-focused build or Subsistence for more ammo when ad-clearing. There are also Hatchling and Golden Tricorn as Perk 2, should you want them.
The combination works extremely well with the new Origin Trait: Cursed Thrall. After defeating targets with a melee attack, final blows with this weapon cause targets to explode for a short duration.
Swordbreaker PvP god roll
- Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling
- Magazine: Accurized Rounds
- Perk 1: Slideshot
- Perk 2: Opening Shot
- Masterwork: Range
For PvP, the roll is much simpler. We are still going with Corkscrew Rifling but are switching to Accurized Rounds for extra range. Note that our Masterwork preference switched to Range as well.
Our perk choice is none than other Slideshot + Opening Shot. That is by far the best and only roll on Swordbreaker that will be decent in PvP. Both perks give you a whole bunch of passive range while you can stay on the move and secure cheesy kills.
