Destiny 2 Martyr’s Retribution: God Rolls & How to get it

by | Jul 7, 2024

Wave frame grenade launchers have always been a top pick for all things PvE. Especially after the release of Forbearance (popularized primarily due to its ability to roll with Chain Reaction), this weapon archetype has been an ad-clear monster that trivializes even the hardest of endgame content.

Today, we’ll take a look at the grenade launcher that started it all back in Season of Dawn: Martyr’s Retribution.

How good is Martyr’s Retribution

While Forbearance and similar options are extremely difficult to compete with, the new version of Martyr’s Retribution excels in its own right, containing perks we’ve never seen before on a wave frame grenade launcher.

In PvE, Martyr’s main draw is synergy with Solar builds. While the lack of Chain Reaction here may concern some at first glance, the perk was nerfed on wave frames with The Final Shape, closing the gap between this weapon and Forbearance.

Wave frame grenade launchers have never excelled in PvP, and Martyr’s Retribution is no exception. The weapon has little to offer here, and we highly recommend choosing a different option.

Martyr’s Retribution PvE god rolls

PvE Roll: All-Around
Launcher Barrel Quick Launch
Magazine High-Velocity Rounds
Perk 1 Heal Clip (also good: Demolitionist)
Perk 2 Incandescent
Masterwork Velocity

We’ll start by maxing out Martyr’s velocity stat with Quick Launch, High-Velocity Rounds, and a velocity masterwork. This also gives added handling, which helps you quickly swap between this weapon and your primary or heavy.

Heal Clip is the star of the third column, which synergizes perfectly with the weapon’s single-shot magazine. Demolitionist is also worth mentioning, pairing well with builds and removing the need to think about your grenade recharge rate. As for the final column, Incandescent is unique to this weapon and proves extremely useful for both general ad clear and Solar build synergy.

Martyr’s Retribution PvP god rolls

PvE Roll: All-Around
Launcher Barrel Quick Launch
Magazine High-Velocity Rounds
Perk 1 Heal Clip
Perk 2 Desperate Measures or Vorpal Weapon
Masterwork Velocity

As for The Crucible, we’ll once again begin with Quick Launch, High-Velocity Rounds, and a velocity masterwork to max out our velocity stat.

From there, nearly every main perk featured on this weapon isn’t built for PvP, so no matter what you run, Martyr’s simply won’t be efficient in The Crucible’s sandbox. Regardless, we’ll choose Heal Clip, and either Desperate Measures or Vorpal Weapon for some added healing and bonus damage.

How to get Martyr’s Retribution

While Martyr’s Retribution won’t be obtainable until a later act in Episode: Echoes, you will be able to focus it at the H.E.L.M. through Failsafe or obtain it through the Enigma Protocol activity.

Focusing the weapon will cost you 4 Echo Engrams and 3,000 Glimmer, whereas focusing a Reprisal Weapon Engram (which will result in a random Dawn weapon) costs only 1 Echo Engram. We cover all Season of Dawn weapons here.
