While most people can agree that Prophecy weapons didn’t need yet another refresh, it’s safe to say they got it better than most. A Sudden Death had only three perks swapped around, but it’s a true “quality over quantity” situation here, as those new perks have shifted this weapon into the S tier. This guide will cover everything you need to know about this Void shotgun.

How good is A Sudden Death
A Sudden Death was already a pretty solid option for both PvE and PvP thanks to its Season of the Wish refresh, but now it can stand with the best. In PvE, ASD now rolls with both One-Two Punch and Trench Barrel, making it perfect for those close quarters fights and Synthos combos, and Paracausal Affinity amps your damage to a solid 20%! You can also get a bit goofy with Redirection by building stacks through Discord and then popping the charged shots off at the larger targets.
In PvP, the previous refresh already made it a meta pick thanks to granting it Slideshot and Opening Shot, but the addition of Closing Time gives players an alternative to Opening Shot that, despite its nerf, is still a very good choice for Special weapons, especially for those with very low handling. A Sudden Death is S-Tier for PvE and A-tier for PvP.

- Perk 2: Chain Reaction, Kill Clip, Elemental Honing, Sword Logic, Redirection, Adrenaline Junkie.

Since Aggressive Frame shotguns tend to have low overall stats, we want to boost what we can without sacrificing effectiveness. To that end, Barrel Shroud and Assault Mag are our best choices. Barrel Shroud buffs our handling and stability, while Assault Mag buffs our rate of fire. This, coupled with Aggressive Frames’ intrinsic rate of fire increase after a kill, means you’ll be shooting this far faster than one would expect.
Perk 1 is going to be One-Two Punch for most people, but Discord is a nice alternative if paired with Redirection as you can build stacks freely through Discord and then unleash those charged shots on the beefier targets. Speaking of, Perk 2 is going to be Trench Barrel for most, though the aforementioned Discord + Redirection combo is still good if you can pull it off.

Range is the live and die stat of shotguns, and while A Sudden Death has a good base stat, it falls behind the coveted Found Verdict. To offset that, Smallbore and Accurized Rounds will provide some healthy boosts and let it punch out at a little under 5 meters before taking the perks and masterwork into account. On that note, your masterwork is going to depend on your PvP build and Perk 2 choice.
Perk 1 has no competition to Slideshot. A free-range boost just for sliding is huge and is a staple perk on all pellet shotguns to this very day. Threat Detector is nice, but most would take a longer kill range than better handling, though it is still good in its own right. Perk 2 has both Closing Time and Opening Shot, so it’s really your choice as both offer similar range bonuses. CT has handling built into it, but loses effectiveness if you have more than half your mag loaded.
How to get A Sudden Death
A Sudden Death can be acquired through the chest in the Rite of the Nine social space, and can be attuned to there as well. It will drop from any encounter within the Prophecy dungeon at any level, and has the chance to drop as both an adept and a holofoil variant, with the latter rolling double perks.
