How good is Spare Rations
Spare Rations holds a strong place in Guardian hearts, and Monument of Triumph gives it that nostalgia trip we all wanted to see from this great Hand Cannon.
As it stands, PvP is where it will do its best work, and for some, that may have always been the case; it has been surpassed over time by more powerful gear in the sandbox when it comes to PvE.
Carrying a wave of the best PvP options, there’s plenty to mix and match to suit different playstyles to dominate in the arena. Building on Range, accuracy, or adding Explosive payload for extra damage are all quality options.
PvE can lean into the Stasis side or bring explosive power, but as mentioned, there are currently better options beyond nostalgia and gun-feel preference here. Spare Rations is C-Tier for PvE and S-Tier for PvP.

Spare Rations PvE god roll
| PvE Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
| Magazine | Tactical Mag |
| Perk 1 | Firefly (also good: Crystalline Corpsebloom) |
| Perk 2 | Explosive Payload (also good: Desperate Measures) |
| Masterwork | Handling |
Admittedly, Spare Rations leaves a fair bit to be desired,d but with its perk, there’s still power to be put to good use.
Start with the Fluted Barrel to increase handling to keep this weapon feeling light and snappy. Add a Tactical Mag for Reload and Stability while also adding extra shots to the magazine.
Finish by bringing the boom with Firelfy and Explosive Payload. Headshot kills cause explosions, which can clear waves off adds with ease, and Explosive Payload causes extra damage and can help flinch beefier foes.
Spare Rations PvP god roll
| PvP Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Corkscrew Rifling |
| Magazine | Accurized Rounds |
| Perk 1 | Slideshot (also good: Keep Away) |
| Perk 2 | Eye of the Storm (also good: Opening Shot, Explosive Payload) |
| Masterwork | Range |
A gun that will go down as one of the best across Destiny, this PvP god roll provides a fitting tribute.
Start the build with Corkscrew Rifling for balanced boosts to Stability, Range, and Handling. The reason this barrel has come in is that using its main perks in combination allows it to reach maximum Range. Add Accurzied Rounds for the +10 Range to continue with this build.
The first perk is Slideshot, and with each slide, you will receive a boost to Range, taking it over 100, a boost to Stability, and you will reload the Magazine if shots have already been fired. Eye of the Storm then rounds this off with increased accuracy and Handling as your health gets lower, perfect for an aggressive or ‘run and gun’ playstyle, as that accuracy can be the difference maker in winning a duel.
