How good is Bygones
Most players will opt for a different Pulse Rifle archetype or simply go for an Auto Rifle or a Hand Cannon, yet Bygones has a few tricks up its sleeve.
Shoot to Loot in the first perk column is excellent for some utility, as well as Demolitionist, Attrition Orbs, and Subsistence being present as well, giving players the flexibility to choose between a workhorse perk like Subsistence or a build-focused perk like Attrition Orbs or Demolitionist. Combined with Frenzy, Kinetic Tremors, Firefly, and Desperate Measures in the second column, there is a healthy choice on Bygones.
For PvP, options like Keep Away and Zen Moment are immediate standouts, especially on this type of Pulse Rifle. This, paired with some lethality through Kill Clip or some more stability with Eye of the Storm, makes Bygones disgustingly easy to use in PvP, meaning that while you may have a longer time-to-kill at 0.93, you can almost always guarantee you’ll hit that optimal speed. Overall, Bygones is B tier in PvE and A tier in PvP.

Bygones PvE god rolls
PvE Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
Magazine | Flared Magwell |
Perk 1 | Demolitionist (also good: Shoot to Loot/Attrition Orbs) |
Perk 2 | Desperate Measures or Frenzy (also good: Kinetic Tremors) |
Masterwork | Reload Speed |
Reload Speed and Handling are always important, so Fluted Barrel, Flared Magwell, and a Reload Speed masterwork are all very beneficial perks. However, these options become less important if you opt for Frenzy due to the stat boosts provided by the perk.
Demolitionist is always a good perk, but Shoot to Loot and Attrition Orbs are both great picks to make the gun a great utility option.
For perk 2, Desperate Measures is the easy pick as it works brilliantly with Demolitionist, but Frenzy is always a good perk, especially on a weapon with pretty middling base stats. Kinetic Tremors is also a decent alternative to give the weapon some AoE damage, and Kinetic Tremors is also easy to activate on a Pulse Rifle.
Bygones PvP god rolls
PvP Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Smallbore |
Magazine | Ricochet Rounds or High-Caliber Rounds |
Perk 1 | Keep Away or Zen Moment |
Perk 2 | High Ground or Headseeker (also good: Eye of the Storm) |
Masterwork | Stability |
Stability and Range are the most important stats for PvP on Pulse Rifles, so Smallbore, Ricochet Rounds, and a Stability masterwork are ideal. However, High-Caliber Rounds can also be good for general dueling as they can flinch the target, which can help offset the longer time-to-kill.
Keep Away and Zen Moment are the two standouts in the first column. Keep Away naturally lends itself to Pulse Rifles, and Zen Moment is always an excellent perk for consistency. For perk 2, Eye of the Storm and Headseeker again are great perks for improved consistency, but you can’t ignore High Ground as it provides a two-burst kill, with the only requirement being that you are above your enemy (or that you get a kill), making it outrageously potent on Bygones, dropping the TTK from 0.93 to 0.6s.
How to get Bygones
Players can obtain Bygones from the Gambit playlist and rank-up packages from The Drifter. While playing Gambit games will net you Gambit Engrams, the best thing to do for target-farming it is to focus Engrams to decode them into Bygones directly.
Focused decoding is possible at the Drifter and will use a couple more engrams than simply just opening the engrams, but they’ll drastically improve your odds of getting a good roll as Bygones comes with 12 perks in each perk slot, making the god roll incredibly rare. We cover all Gambit Weapons here.
