Released with The Edge of Fate DLC, Qua Nilus II is a
Strand Adaptive Frame SMG that can be farmed by completing Portal activities. While Qua Nilus rocks some great stats, it’s sadly held back by the mishmash of perks. This guide covers its place in the current Meta, top rolls for PvE and PvP, and how to farm it.

How good is Qua Nilus II
Adaptive SMGs have always been somewhat unusual. Sharing the same RPM as Lightweights, they are good on paper, but their actual viability lives and dies by the perks that roll with them.
Qua Nilus II, unfortunately, does not have the perks to make this any better than its contemporaries. While good combos exist, nothing stands out to make this a worthwhile farm over any other available adaptive. Qua Nilus II is B-Tier for PvE and A-tier for PvP.

Qua Nilus II Perks and God Rolls
The Qua Nilus II Strand SMG can roll with the following perks:
- Perk 1: Slice, Offhand Strike, Dynamic Sway Reduction, Encore, Proximity Power, Transcendent Moment.
- Perk 2: Hatchling, Dragonfly, Swashbuckler, Binary Orbit, Surrounded, Harmony.
- Origin Trait: Vanguard Determination, Wild Card.
Qua Nilus II PvE god rolls
| PvE Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
| Magazine | Appended Mag |
| Perk 1 | Proximity Power or Slice |
| Perk 2 | Swashbuckler or Dragonfly (also good: Surrounded) |
| Masterwork | Reload Speed |
| Origin Trait | Wild Card |
Since Qua Nilus has decent base stats overall, there’s really not too much to improve, so Fluted Barrel and Appended Mag will do nicely. Extended Mag typically gives a bit more than Appended, but it’s only a single round here, so it’s not worth the tradeoff.
Perk 1 has only two real PvE options, Proximity Power or Slice. Proximity Power can really help you lean into a melee build as it directly increases the stat instead of refunding energy, meaning more melee damage! Pair it with Swashbuckler or Surrounded to really get the loop going. And for the Strand aficionados, pairing Slice with the Vanguard Determination origin trait can turn you into a tank. This is thanks to the trait giving you damage resistance on kills after using your class ability, and since Slice activates the same way, you’ll be reducing their damage as well!
Qua Nilus II PvP god rolls
| PvP Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Smallbore |
| Magazine | Accurized Rounds |
| Perk 1 | Dynamic Sway Reduction (also good: Transcendent Moment) |
| Perk 2 | Swashbuckler or Harmony |
| Masterwork | Range |
| Origin Trait | Vanguard Determination |
Due to the close-quarters nature of SMGs, we want to push the limits of what is considered “close quarters” for them. To achieve this, we will utilize Smallbore and Accurized Rounds, along with a range Masterwork, to extend the falloff range to nearly 23m.
Now that we have a good range, it’s important to keep your shots going where you want them. Here, Dynamic Sway Reduction will be your best friend. Each shot increases your stability, so don’t worry if you miss the first few. Alternatively, you can go for Transcendent Moment, which will increase your range on a kill, though how much is still TBD. And finally, Swashbuckler or Harmony will be your Perk 2 choices. Both give solid damage boosts, and with how powerful you can get your melees now, Swashbuckler is even better than before.
How to get Qua Nilus II
Qua Nilus II can be acquired from Portal activities. Some days will have a bonus focus specifically for this gun, so if you see it, be sure to farm it out! We cover all Portal Weapons here.
