The Desert Perpetual, Destiny 2’s newest raid, has finally launched. While Contest Mode rendered itself a challenge for even the most experienced of players, the recent release of normal mode has encouraged Guardians of all skill levels to step in and grab some loot. Today, we’ll take a look at the raid’s submachine gun: Antedate.

How good is Antedate
Similar to most raid weapons of recent history, Antedate has some tricks up its sleeve compared to its competition. One example would be Rolling Storm in the first column, which isn’t the strongest perk in the world but can now be paired with the likes of Frenzy or Jolting Feedback for PvE.
Despite these unique combinations, Antedate still has a lot to prove. In PvE, the meta has shifted primarily to hand cannons and double special weapon loadouts, leaving submachine guns largely behind. Those that still see frequent use, like No Survivors, have undeniably meta perk combinations, such as Heal Clip and Incandescent. Sadly, Antedate lacks most of these combos.
Luckily, the story is slightly different in The Crucible. With top-tier perks, a clean scope, and solid stats, Antedate has everything it needs to be a popular pick for PvP players. Even if you have a strong SMG already, we recommend trying this one; you may end up liking it more! Antedate is A-Tier for PvE and S-tier for PvP.

Antedate PvE god rolls
| PvE Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
| Magazine | Flared Magwell |
| Perk 1 | Rolling Storm or Dragonfly |
| Perk 2 | Frenzy or Jolting Feedback |
| Masterwork | Handling |
Fluted Barrel, Flared Magwell, and a handling masterwork are our choices for stat-boosting perks. While we’d typically opt for a reload speed masterwork here, it really isn’t worth it due to our other choices and the weapon’s origin trait.
Rolling Storm in the third column is hard to pass up. Even though it’s slightly less popular than other subclass-synergistic perks due to how easy Bolt Charge is to build up, it’s an extremely strong perk for the third column, making it our top pick. If you’re not running an Arc build, however, Dragonfly could prove equally enticing. From there, you have a choice between Jolting Feedback and Frenzy; the former plays even more into Arc synergy, while the latter provides additional damage and reload speed bonuses on top of Antedate’s origin trait.
Antedate PvP god rolls
| PvP Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Hammer-Forged Rifling |
| Magazine | Ricochet Rounds |
| Perk 1 | Rangefinder |
| Perk 2 | Target Lock |
| Masterwork | Range or Stability |
The main thing you’re looking for on SMGs in The Crucible is range, so we’ll opt for Hammer-Forged Rifling, Ricochet Rounds, and either a range or stability masterwork. Frame of Reference, the weapon’s origin trait, provides even more range (among other things), making this a pretty great contender for PvP right out of the gate.
Rangefinder is our pick for column three for the same reasons listed above (there also isn’t much else here, save for maybe Zen Moment). Our final perk selection is Target Lock, which makes for more consistent and shorter kills.
How to get Antedate
Antedate is one of six weapons currently available from the base version of The Desert Perpetual raid. It drops from the Agraios (Hobgoblin) and Koregos (Final Boss) encounters. Additional copies of the weapon can be purchased at the end-of-raid vendor for Spoils of Conquest, and higher-tier variants can be obtained on runs with Feats active. We cover the entire Desert Perpetual Loot Table here.

Andrew, the godroll for PvE is Rewind+Target Lock. This with PK’s is literally raid meta.
