Destiny 2 Resilience guide: Benefits and How it Works

Resilience used to be the most useless stat in the game. But now, everyone can’t stop talking about it. Why is that? Well, it comes down to one drastic change Bungie made: Resilience now gives you permanent damage resistance in PvE, in addition to all its other effects.

So, now that Resilience is arguably the best stat in the game, what are the numbers behind it? And what are some ways you can increase your Resilience on the fly? We’ll share all that information with you down below.

Destiny 2 Resilience stat 101: The benefits

Regardless of what activity you’re playing (or what class you’re on), Resilience is a crucial stat to build into. Here are all the things that Resilience affects:

  • Shield portion of your HP
  • Flinch Resistance
  • Damage Resistance in PVE
  • Stasis Freeze Breakout Damage

Generally speaking, more Resilience means you become harder to kill. Here are the actual differences you’ll see between each Resilience tier:

The first thing to note here is that Resilience doesn’t increase your health amount, but instead, your shield amount. That said, it still grants what most people want: more total HP.

Another thing to consider is that most of these numbers are relatively linear (in that a change from Tier 1 to 2 will give you about the same benefit as going from Tier 9 to 10). The only exception to this rule is damage resistance in PvE, but Bungie recently mentioned that those numbers will be made more linear with the release of Lightfall.

Additionally, damage resistance will cap at 30% (instead of the current 40%).

Resilience and the Barricade Ability

If you’re a Titan, the benefits to building into Resilience don’t stop there. Similar to how Mobility affects dodge cooldown and Recovery affects rift cooldown, Resilience also controls your barricade cooldown. The closer to 100 Resilience you are, the quicker your Barricade will regenerate.

The only thing to note here is that, like other stats in the game, you won’t receive any benefits from exceeding Tier 10.

How to increase your Resilience

The easiest way to increase Resilience is through stat mods found on any armor piece. These are relatively cheap and can add up to five free tiers, assuming you have the armor energy.

Another simple way of gaining an extra tier or two of Resilience is through subclass fragments. Some fragments, such as Void’s Echo of Leeching, grant you +10 Resilience just for equipping them. If you have an extra fragment slot available, this is an easy way to get a nice bump.

A final, more unique source of Resilience is the Land Tank Origin Trait, found on Season of the Risen weapons. Like Rampage, Land Tank stacks up to 3 times, can be refreshed and lasts 10 seconds. Each stack you gain grants you +10 Resilience.
