Destiny 2 The Palindrome: God Rolls & How to get it

by | Feb 4, 2025

Episode: Heresy is finally here, and Bungie knows they have to bring out the big guns to keep players invested. As is standard with new releases these days, part of their plan is reissuing popular old weapons, adding some new perks to them to spice things up.

Today, we’ll take a look at a hand cannon that’s been around since Destiny 1: The Palindrome.

How good is The Palindrome

While The Palindrome is yet to be re-released, we can expect it to excel throughout the entire game when it becomes available in Episode: Heresy.

Hand cannons have been a top choice in PvE for a while now; especially with options like Sunshot and Zaouli’s Bane, this class of weapon is known to be outstanding at ad clear while also chunking down higher-health targets. However, this version of The Palindrome lacks a lot of top perks found on other options, instead offering raw damage perks that don’t offer much in today’s sandbox.

That said, The Palindrome is typically remembered for its PvP strength. This new version lives up to those expectations, containing unique and potent perk combinations such as Explosive Payload and Magnificent Howl. The Palindrome is B-Tier for PvE and A-tier for PvP.

The Palindrome Perks & God Rolls

The Palindrome arc hand cannon can roll with the following perks:

  • Perk 1: Closing Time, Elemental Capacitor, Explosive Payload, Recycled Energy, Outlaw, To the Pain.
  • Perk 2: Magnificent Howl, Snapshot Sights, Master of Arms, Opening Shot, Rolling Storm, Desperate Measures.
  • Origin Trait: Stunning Recovery, Vanguard’s Vindication, Wild Card.

The Palindrome PvE god rolls

PvE Roll: All-Around
Barrel Fluted Barrel
Magazine Tactical Mag
Perk 1 Explosive Payload (also good: Outlaw)
Perk 2 Master of Arms (also good: Rolling Storm)
Masterwork Handling or Reload Speed
Origin Trait Vanguard’s Vindication

We’ll start our PvE roll with Fluted Barrel, Tactical Mag, and a handling masterwork for a mix of stat boosts. If reload speed becomes a problem as a result of opting against Outlaw, the masterwork can be swapped for reload speed.

Explosive Payload isn’t an absurdly popular choice for PvE, but it’s the best The Palindrome has in this column. Plus, it supports our final column choice, Master of Arms, in increasing raw power.

Speaking of which, Master of Arms is the best pick for column four, adding a 25% damage bonus when at two stacks.

The Palindrome PvP god rolls

PvP Roll: All-Around
Barrel Smallbore
Magazine Ricochet Rounds
Perk 1 Explosive Payload (also good: Elemental Capacitor)
Perk 2 Magnificent Howl (also good: Opening Shot)
Masterwork Range
Origin Trait Vanguard’s Vindication

In The Crucible, prioritizing range and stability are vital. As a result, we’ll opt for Smallbore, Ricochet Rounds, and a range masterwork.

Explosive Payload provides similar benefits, effectively adding some additional flinch and range. Magnificent Howl is a great choice for the final column—that is, assuming you’re skilled enough to chain multiple precision kills in one life. If you aren’t, or if you prefer a stat-boosting perk instead, Opening Shot will serve you well.

How to get The Palindrome

The Palindrome is one of eight weapons available from the Nightfall playlist in Episode: Heresy. After obtaining it once from the playlist (it only drops on certain weeks!), you can purchase additional copies from Zavala for 5 Vanguard Engrams and 25,000 Glimmer.

Zavala also offers rolls for a reduced price of 1 Vanguard Engram and 1 Nightfall Cipher (Adept) during weeks that The Palindrome is available from the Nightfall playlist (making those weeks extremely good for farming). We cover all Nightfall weapons here.
