Released with the Ash & Iron Major Update, Starscape Null is a
Solar Lightweigth Shotgun that can be farmed by completing The Desert Perpetual Epic Raid. With plenty of interesting perks, this shotgun should dominate (at least on paper). But, does it? This guide covers its place in the current Meta, top rolls for PvE and PvP, and how to farm it.

How good is Starscape Null
In PvE, Starscape Null is an interesting weapon. Not terrible by any means, but it hosts a number of perks that have it divided through a few different uses, none of which it excels at over other options in the game. If you don’t have a better alternative, it’s fine, but it’s really outclassed at everything it’s trying to do.
On one hand, you have the DPS-focused roll of Rewind Rounds/Envious Arsenal and Bait and Switch/Trench Barrel/Elemental Honing/Aggregate Charge, all of which are great DPS perks. However, being a lightweight shotgun, it has the weakest frame and reserves for DPS of all shotgun frames, and is outclassed by Unvoiced and Pure Recollection in terms of DPS.
The other roll is your classic One-Two Punch roll, which you can pair with Reconstruction for consistent uptime. This is a fine roll, but is once again worse than other options like IKELOS_SG_v1.0.3. Once again, its frame means that you don’t have nearly as many reserves, and for no real upside either. So, it’s hard to find a place where this works.
In PvP, this weapon is a non-starter. You can take a roll with Pugilist and Aggregate Charge into the Crucible, but it just feels incredibly mundane with the lack of great handling/swap perks to boost its mediocre stats. Starscape Null is B-Tier for PvE and C-Tier for PvP.

Starscape Null PvE god rolls
| PvE Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Smallbore |
| Magazine | Assault Mag |
| Perk 1 | Reconstruction (also good: Rewind Rounds, Envious Arsenal) |
| Perk 2 | One-Two Punch (also good: Bait and Switch, Trench Barrel) |
| Masterwork | Handling |
The barrel and magazine are fairly standard, with Smallbore giving a modest bump to both Range and Stability, and Assault Mag increasing the rate of fire as well as providing more Stability. Masterwork-wise, Handling is great both to help with Reconstruction and Bait and Switch/Envious Arsenal, so it’s great quality-of-life.
In the first perk column, if you want to take the One-Two Punch approach, Reconstruction is the only real perk that feels relevant in practice. It gives you the ability to switch with ammo in the magazine for using One-Two Punch during roaming, even if it can be a bit awkward to work into a Grapple punch setup. Otherwise, for damage setups, Rewind Rounds is great for sustained DPS, whereas Envious Arsenal is better for rotations.
The second perk column, however, presents the main choice of your roll. You can either go One-Two Punch, or a DPS perk like Bait and Switch, Trench Barrel, or Elemental Honing. With it being weaker than other shotguns for DPS, the One-Two Punch option fits this weapon’s archetype far better.
Starscape Null PvP god rolls
| PvP Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Smallbore |
| Magazine | Accurized Rounds |
| Perk 1 | Pugilist |
| Perk 2 | Aggregate Charge |
| Masterwork | Range |
In PvP, range is key as you’ll lose out to better shotguns with more range in a one-on-one scenario. Starscape Null has a pretty low range intrinsically, so Smallbore and Accurized Rounds are must-haves, as well as a Range masterwork.
The perks on this gun are not made for PvP, and it shows. There’s no real immediate standouts here for the crucible, but the best option you have is Pugilist in the first column to help you get your melee back more quickly, and Aggregate Charge for some extra damage when combined with a debuff like Smoke Bomb.
These do technically work together, but it’s not a roll to take into the Trials of Osiris, as the upside is very minimal for a lot of setup. There are far better shotguns, like the MIDA Macro-Tool, that you can obtain for PvP much more easily.
How to get Starscape Null
Starscape Null is available in The Desert Perpetual Epic Raid. You can obtain it by completing [encounter, as I’m unsure if it’s known which encounter this drops from], and can get higher-tier versions of it by doing so with more Raid Feats (with five feats guaranteeing a Tier 5 drop).
