How good is Pure Recollection
Pure Recollection is a great PvE close-range DPS option, providing top-tier damage perks like Envious Arsenal and Bait and Switch to be able to perform as part of potent DPS synergies. While its neutral game isn’t as apparent as other shotguns, this weapon wants to do one thing only: damage. In PvP, this really just doesn’t fit. It has decent perks in Threat Detector and Closing Time, but the Heavy Burst archetype definitely feels a bit jankier in comparison to the clean TTK of the other shotguns in the Crucible.
All in all, this Void Heavy Burst Shotgun outshines Arcane Embrace, providing a better selection of PvE perks and feeling like it has a niche. In a close-range DPS encounter, this definitely has potential for dumping damage in a wider rotation. Pure Recollection is S-Tier for PvE and B-tier for PvP.

Pure Recollection Perks and God Rolls
The Pure Recollection Void Shotgun can roll with the following perks:
- Perk 1: Dual Loader, Envious Arsenal, Lone Wolf, Under Pressure, Threat Detector, High-Impact Reserves.
- Perk 2: Tap The Trigger, Closing Time, Destabilising Rounds, Withering Gaze, Headseeker, Bait and Switch.
- Origin Trait: Roar of Battle, Suros Synergy.
Pure Recollection PvE god rolls
| PvE Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Arrowhead Brake |
| Magazine | Extended Mag |
| Perk 1 | Envious Arsenal |
| Perk 2 | Bait and Switch |
| Masterwork | Handling |
| Origin Trait | Roar of Battle |
Pure Recollection is a DPS rotation weapon, which means that you’ll want to try to max out its Handling as much as possible to be able to easily get Bait and Switch off. Arrowhead Brake also makes it slightly easier to control, and Extended Mag gives two extra rounds with the downside of lower reload speed, which doesn’t affect us due to Envious Arsenal.
In the first perk column, the obvious choice is Envious Arsenal for DPS. If you’re looking for more of a neutral roll, Dual Loader or High-Impact Reserves are both decent options, but this weapon isn’t really made for that.
The second perk column has Bait and Switch, which is arguably the best DPS perk in the game. You can also take Withering Gaze if you need the debuff, but other sources of weaken are better and easier (and other weapons suit Withering Gaze more). Destabilising Rounds is an ad-clear perk, but this shotgun isn’t made for ad-clear whatsoever.
Pure Recollection PvP god rolls
| PvP Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Smallbore |
| Magazine | Ricochet Rounds |
| Perk 1 | Threat Detector |
| Perk 2 | Closing Time (also good: Headseeker) |
| Masterwork | Range |
| Origin Trait | Roar of Battle |
For PvP, you definitely want to pad out the Range on this weapon as you want your effective range to be as large as possible. Smallbore gives us extra Range and Stability, as does Ricochet Rounds, and so we recommend both of these. Even though you can get more range, the extra stats and Stability are worth it.
In the first perk column, there are a couple of PvP perks, but Threat Detector takes the cake. It improves Handling greatly in close-range scenarios, which is important as you want to be able to start firing your whole burst as soon as possible. You can also pick Lone Wolf or Under Pressure, but the bonuses that both give are marginal.
The second perk column has Closing Time and Headseeker, both of which are definitely viable. Closing Time is a safer pick if you want to use this as a more traditional PvP shotgun, whereas Headseeker is there if you really want to use it as your main engagement weapon.
How to get Pure Recollection
You can obtain Pure Recollection by playing Crucible Ops. It’s a random drop, but keep an eye out for when it’s featured, as you’ll be able to farm for it infinitely. You can’t obtain it during any other portal activity, though, so you’ll have to play PvP to be able to get your hands on it. We cover all Crucible Ops weapons here.
