Season of the Deep has launched, and along with it came a revitalized version of the Reckoning weapon set. Sole Survivor is a part of this and has come out relatively strong with some of the most sought-after new perks.
How do you get the new version of this sniper? Where does it excel? What perks should you look out for? We’ll cover that and more down below.

How to get the Sole Survivor in Season 21
Sole Survivor comes from one of Season of the Deep’s most well-received activities: focused fishing. After purchasing the Season Pass and completing the intro quest, simply gather some bait and spend some time at a fishing pond.
Depositing a Legendary-tier fish into your H.E.L.M. aquarium should reward you with a Reckoning weapon. Once you’ve obtained a copy of Sole Survivor (and completed the Deep Weapon Focusing seasonal bonus, which should be straightforward), you can focus additional copies at the Sonar Station for four Deep Engrams and 3,000 Glimmer.
How good is the Sole Survivor
While snipers aren’t in the best spot right now—at least not in PvE—Sole Survivor has a wide variety of top-tier perks that allow it to excel in various activities. Sole Survivor’s most direct competition comes in the form of Mercurial Overreach, a new Arc 90 RPM sniper from the Competitive Crucible playlist. However, when looking at perks, Mercurial is more geared toward PvP—the complete opposite of Sole Survivor.
Overall, we consider Sole Survivor an A-Tier weapon. If snipers ever receive a buff in PvE, this will probably be a go-to; however, a fusion rifle, wave frame grenade launcher, or slug shotgun is a better pick for now.

Best Sole Survivor Rolls for PvE and PvP
Now that you generally know where this weapon excels, let’s look at what rolls you should look out for when farming it.
Sole Survivor PvE god roll
- Barrel: Fluted Barrel
- Magazine: Appended Mag (also good: Flared Magwell)
- Perk 1: Lead From Gold (also good: Field Prep or Rapid Hit)
- Perk 2: Firing Line (also good: Voltshot)
Luckily, Sole Survivor picks up some steam in PvE. You’ll want Fluted Barrel again in the first column paired with either Appended Mag or Flared Magwell in the second.
There are a lot of directions you can go with perks here. In the third column, Lead From Gold, Field Prep, and Rapid Hit are the three standouts, depending on your preferences. As for the final column, Firing Line is great if you’re playing with a group; if you’re running solo, Focused Fury is the best alternative. Voltshot is also worth noting, turning this weapon into a mini version of Cloudstrike.
Sole Survivor PvP god roll
- Barrel: Fluted Barrel
- Magazine: High-Caliber Rounds
- Perk 1: Snapshot Sights
- Perk 2: Vorpal Weapon (also good: Frenzy)
As stated earlier, Sole Survivor is more of a PvE pick; that said, there are still some perk choices that can make this weapon worth a shot in The Crucible.
While the first two columns of perks don’t matter much on snipers, we prefer Fluted Barrel for the handling and High-Caliber Rounds for the extra flinch. For perk one, Snapshot Sights is a clear choice. The final column, however, is a bit trickier. Nothing stands out here for The Crucible, so Eye of the Storm, Frenzy, or Vorpal Weapon are probably your best picks.
