Destiny 2 Mykel’s Reverence: God Rolls and How to get it

by | Mar 13, 2023

Mykel’s Reverence is the brand new Strand Rapid-Fire sidearm hailing from the Root of Nightmares raid. Being a craftable gun with many new perks, it can be quite confusing on which roll to go for. This article will tell you how to get it, the best rolls for both PvP and PvE, and whether it’s worth chasing.

How to get Mykel’s Reverence in Season 20

Mykel’s Reverence comes from the new Root of Nightmares raid that was released with the Lightfall DLC. It drops from the second encounter, “Enter the Root,” the third encounter, “Zo’aurc,” and the final encounter, “Nezerac.” Currently, the only farming methods are running the raid once per character each week in hopes of getting a drop or focusing it at the final chest using spoils of conquest. You can check the full loot table, including all Root of Nightmares raid loot, here.

For changes to earn the patterns required to craft this weapon, you can complete the weekly Deepsighted chest puzzle (covered in this guide from Skarrow9) or purchase the weekly Deepsighted weapon with Spoils of Conquest from the chest that appears after beating the raid’s final boss.

How good is Mykel’s Reverence today’s Meta?

Being part of the Rapid-Fire sidearm family, Mykel’s Reverence shoots at 450rpm. This archetype is currently not favored in either PvE or PvP, living in the shadows of much more dominant SMGs.

Mykel’s Reverence does find value in its element: Strand. Strand weapons have access to new unique perks that pair perfectly with the new subclasses. Mykel’s Reverence can get the new Hatchling perk, which synergies well with the Broodweaver subclass, but also works for the other 2 Strand subclasses. Mykel’s Reverence can also roll with several other strong PvE perks, including Frenzy, Swashbuckler, Pugilist, and Rewind Rounds.

Inside the Crucible, Mykel’s Reverence will struggle to find value. Due to the dominance of other close-range weapons like SMGs, Sidearms struggle to fill the role they are designed for. Mykel’s Reverence is no exception to this. However, players who are using a controller can still find Mykel’s Reverence to be a fun weapon to use in casual game modes like Quickplay. Bottom line, this is a C Tier (Weak) weapon.

Mykel's Reverence

Mykel’s Reverence Rolls for PvE and PvP

Once you’ve managed to obtain the Pattern or saved up enough spoils to buy weapons from the final raid chest, it’s time to craft/hunt for the God roll. These are our personal recommendations:

Mykel’s Reverence PvP god roll

Due to its high base stability, you want to focus on getting as much range as possible. This makes Hammer-Forged Rifling, Full Bore, or Small Bore the best barrels. For magazine options: Ricochet or High-Caliber Rounds for the extra range with bonuses to stability/increasing flinch, respectively. The best perk in the first column is Perpetual Motion due to the bonus effects it grants when moving. The second column of perks has a wider range of perks that can be used. For general use, Swashbuckler or Tap the Trigger are the go-to options. Strand users can find great value in the Hatchling perk.

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling
  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds
  • Perk 1: Perpetual Motion
  • Perk 2: Swashbuckler or Tap the Trigger (or Hatching if strand subclass)
  • Masterwork: Range

Mykel’s Reverence PvE god roll

For PvE, Reload Speed becomes one of the most desired stats for Mykel’s Reverence. Hence, Flared Magwell or Alloy Mag are the two best options. The choice of barrel matters significantly less for PvE and isn’t something to worry about. However, the go-to option is still Hammer-Forged. The best column 1 perks are Thresh or Pugilist, and the best column 2 perks are Swashbuckler and Hatchling. Hatchling is the best choice if you are using a strand subclass.

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling
  • Magazine: Flared Magwell or Alloy Magazine
  • Perk 1: Thresh
  • Perk 2: Swashbuckler or Hatching
  • Masterwork: Reload Speed

Is Mykel’s Reverence worth farming?

Sadly Mykel’s Reverence isn’t a must-have weapon. The combination of its weapon archetype being in a bad spot, its competition with stronger strand primary weapons, and being one of the least desirable weapons from the new raid puts Mykel’s Reverence at the bottom of the pecking order. It is recommended to slowly make progress on this weapon frame as future buffs to this archetype might make having a Mykel’s Reverence worthwhile.
